It was very nice! Dave and I met my parents in Hoboken and went to OddFellows, the best Cajun/Creole food this side of New Orleans (which I say after much dining in New Orleans and checking out several Zagat rated places in the NY area.) www.oddfellowsrest.com/Originally I was hoping to meet up with people after dinner to toss some darts and down some beers, but that's kind of rough on a Monday night and we had a bit of a vacation hangover. The only diet that I can do is Atkins... I can cut the carbs and the sugar, but in that case, I need ALL the fat! The only problem with it is managing if you are on a limited budget... the best part of the diet is a big porterhouse, and a poor grad student cannot be doing that even ONCE a week ;D

I think I'm going to make a post-class snack out of my leftover maki and miso soup from last night's dinner... it took 6 months, but I finally found a decent sushi place in Port Jeff with special rolls, that delivers!

OK, now I'm hungry. I want some poached eggs, either the way Marc had them or in the Eggs Benedict style.

So, being the fantastic romantic that I am, I whipped up a Valentines Day feast. A hot honey mustard chicken. Served with noodles. The sauce had some hot mustard, honey, orange marmalade, paprika, chicken stock, pepper, and some other dribs and drabs. Came out well, good cuts of chicken. I am quite the gourmand.

So last night we had a Tex-Mex thing going, the anny of the Alamo and all, and Dana whipped up a gem we have had before. It has some Mexican rice, some smoked sausage, and 4 eggs cracked and settled on top of all of it. All mixed up together in a melange. I guess there is more stuff in there, that I am not so sure of. I just know it was some good eatin.

I had a bowl of House Sherry Crab Bisque (continues to be the best bisque I have ever had, and it's $4.49 a bowl), the Bourbon Maple-Glazed Pot Roast with sides of Smashed Redskin Potatoes w/caramelized onions and mixed vegetables, and a carafe of cabernet at Atria's in PNC Park.

Now thats a lunch.
I had a good one today, as brown-baggers go. Spiced ham and gouda cheese on a roll, with Mr Mustard hot mustard. A fruit cup that was earmarked for dessert, although I also scarved down a tiny cupcake that had been sitting in the fridge since I bought it along last week. Drinking a Lipton Brisk iced tea, which is surely no cabernet.

Hey, Cho
D'you remember the unnamed sandwich spot in the old Forum? Court level maybe. It was totally unmarked, just a regular door with no signage, but had the BOMB French Dip Au Jus sandwiches with horseradish sauce

I just made myself a chicken chimichanga (from the freezer) with Sante Fe style red beans and rice (from the little Vigo package) and I simmered some frozen collard greens with a handful of grape tomatoes sliced in half, a chicken boullion, a dash of chipoltle powder and a splash of habanero sauce.

INSIDE the forum??? Nope, don't recall. But I do know that the best place in the WORLD for French Dip Sandwiches (who claims to have invented it) is in downtown LA - the 100+ year old Philippes www.philippes.com/

Sorry about that...I should clarify. That was dinner the previous night, not lunch. But boy, there sure are some days when I could use a carafe of cabernet at 11:30 in the morning. lol

Philippes is the the shit!!!
Across from Union Station. Sawdust on the floor. 25cent coffees and sodas. Lots of Cops. I loved that place....sometimes the line was out the door.
They have a sign there claiming that they created the French Dip when a Cop came in and they accidentally dropped his roll into the 'au jus' and he loved it....
EDIT: OH Just saw the site....I miss that place.

Philippes is REALLY good.
Yes across from Union Station, but more importantly across from Olvera Street - home of the greatest taquitos on earth.
I am notoriously hard on Southern California cuisine, but Philippe's gets a gold star in my book.

Leftovers from the Irish holiday weekend!
Some boiled cabbage from the corned beef pot & a big bowl of my homemade potato leak soup with bacon... I am an awesome cook!

Cho said "hard on" heh heh
As to cabbage, I really enjoyed it this past Saturday. Last St Pats we had our corned beef with potatoes and carrots, but this year the cabbage was boiled. Its going to become a staple of this household.

I could not get Dave to eat any of the cabbage, but I am a big fan of it when it's boiled in the pot with the corned beef, potatoes and a big diced onion. Sometimes I toss carrots in, as well, but this weekend I did not bother because I tossed some into the soup. I am actually pretty surprised that Dave enjoyed the soup, seeing as there was quite the vegetable medley cooked into it, including carrots, celery, onions, a parsnip and a turnip, in addition to the leeks...
