Just finished one of my holiday gifts. It was actually kind of disappointing. Nothing really new, just a bunch of stories I'd read before and brief descriptions of the players he mentions. Phil Pepe actually did a few of these books -- I saw Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox versions on Amazon.com.

I have sworn off Yankee books for exactly the reason you mentioned. All these tales have been told before, and again, and again, and again, and again.
Right now I am reading "Mayflower" - quite the interesting pilgrim yarn.

I know, I've just been craving baseball lately, which probably made that book all the more disappointing.

I've spent the last month and a half leisurely re-reading the two Mick Foley books.

There are 5 billion baseball books out there...you just need to go out of the Bronx when flipping pages every once in a while. Many good tales to be told that do not have a pinstripe nary to be found.

Agreed 100%: I just didn't want to go out of my APARTMENT, and this was the only baseball book I hadn't read.

I'm reading "Teaching with Love and Logic". One of the teachers who wrote this book admits to having hit a few students out of frustration, before developing this new way of dealing with them. I think it's a good book for any parent who doesn't want to go to jail, too.

I've heard nothing but great things about "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk" (from therapists and parents).
As for evidence-based practice books, they're a bit hypocritical to me because journal articles have been showing newer trends every year, so by the time a book gets published and all that, aren't half the techniques now useless?

Seaniel, do you have any experience or knowledge of healthcare funding?
Your ascertation really does not make much sense.

Neither does the way you spelled "assertation."

Well, it should be spelled with a c rather than an s, so there.

I just finished reading The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives. I give it two thumbs up. Very well researched. Henry VIII is my favorite historical figure ever.

I'm funded by the healthcare system, but I don't have any experience in a job that actually funds workers (because I'm the worker being funded).
My question wasn't rhetorical, it was legit...alls I know is I've had supervisors tell me to research EBT in journal articles because there's new information coming out all the time.

New information is not evidence-based practice, it's investigational... evidence-based practice is drawn from volumes of outcomes research, and does not rapidly change. The current trends in healthcare financing from many insurance companies require documentation from treatment teams that recommend treatment plans based on predicted outcomes that have been proven, rather than theoretical or investigational treatments. The new direction of the New York State OMH is also to send the majority of state funding to programs engaging in evidence-based practice, which is why I am taking such a class, the curriculum of which is standardized throughout NY State.

Just picked this up after a friend got me into the Showtime series, Dexter. In a nutshell, a forensic blood spatter expert also happens to be a vigilante serial killer. Highly interesting, macabre and twistedly comedic. I recommend the book as well as the show which is based on it.

That's amazing. You have a friend?
I object to the use of the word macabre. I don't like it.

Christina did you finish that book yet? Let me know how it is. I missed the boat on that show. It's right up my alley.

I just got it yesterday so I'm only a few chapters in. I also had missed the boat originally but a friend of mine had all the episodes DVRed or something like that. There are actually 3 books now. As a forensic science major, I am very, very hooked.

I have a Master's and it took me 5 reads of this post to understand without busting out my thesaurus. I work in Jersey, where I haven't had one supervisor enforce EBT on me yet, so I haven't educated myself too much on the whole. From what I understand, evidence-based practice is about the only way to make our field a "science" in terms of developing a hypothesis that is most likely to result in a specific solution, or more appropriately for our purpose, beneficial treatment. I only got into this field about 5 years ago, but I've only heard about EBT in the past couple months, maybe a year or 2 at most. Is EBT starting to get popular with insurance companies simply because it's the closest thing they can get to any type of scientific proof that the outcome of the therapy/help will be beneficial to the client? Not that there's a definite answer to that, I'm just curious as to your opinion since it sounds like you work with that more than I do.

I'm a big Sherlock Holmes mark, and always on the hunt for "futher adventures." Noted thriller scribe Caleb Carr tried his hand, and apparently its a solid addition to the pastiche. I am only a quarter of the way in, but everything from atmosphere to tone, dialogue to action, is very true to the mood and characterization. Enjoying this one, especially as i got it from Amazon Used for a penny, and a couple of bucks shipping.
