Reading Philip Roth's The Human Stain. It's awesome. I finished his book, The Plot Against America which was also amazing.
I think he's officially my favorite writer.

Great novel (Stain) But the movie adaptation was kind of a dud for me.
I really loved The Plot against America. If you liked that try Fatherland by Robert Harris - they made a cheesy HBO version with Rutger Hauer but it really simplifies the plot turns and isn't as strong as the novel.

For some reason I thought the Plot against America was the book the movie was based on, and had little interest in reading it since the movie sucked. Jw

Yeah, I just realized a couple of hours ago that there was a movie adaptation of the Human Stain. I can't imagine how they would turn such a richly textured book into a movie. Seems a tall order to me.
And Anthony Hopkins? Um... I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read the book, but Anthony Hopkins?? WTF?

No Roth's book - The Plot is newer and was premised on the what-ifs had FDR lost (to Nazi supporter) Charles Lindbergh and it's results in America. It's kinda heavy on the woe-to-the-Jews theme, but for historical fiction its good stuff.
Fatherland supposes what would happen if the Nazi's had won the war, and is from a German's perspective.

I have The Plot Against America and I haven't gotten around to it.
I remember seeing Fatherland on tape when I worked in Blockbuster about a decade ago. Still, nothing is as creepy as 'Man In The High Castle' when it comes to the old WWII loss.

Good read. Extremely detailed account of one of NYC's most infamous citizens. Turns out he wasn't a Pirate, but was a Privateer that got fucked by his backers (mostly English Lords, but also the King of England issued a commission for his privateering mission) and his crew (they mutinied to go Pirating).

Again. I still think that the Greasers act too faggy with each other. Stay gold, Ponyboy.

Who was a tougher Greaser? Swayze or Dillon?
Swayze was the oldest, biggest, and seemingly the strongest physically...but even PonyBoy said that they were the only thing keeping him from being a Soc. Dillon lived over a bar, had a gun, was out on his own... I go with Dillon.

Ooooh, I was a Greaser. I played Sandy, Sodapop's girlfriend, in my high school production of The Outsiders. She is not in the movie, and I think only mentioned in the book but in the stage version I got to yell at Ponyboy for fighting with Socs in one scene and then tell Soda that I got knocked up and was moving to Florida to live with my grandmother in another.

I just finished a book about Jane Seymour (third wife of my man Henry VIII) and now I have a dilemma. Should I begin a new book knowing that in a couple of weeks I will have the newest Harry Potter on my doorstep? Or, do I try to reread book 6 before book 7 arrives?? Decisions, decisions.

Reread book 6.
I'm doing that right now. Scheduled to be finished on July 19.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I had forgotten some specifics so it turned out to be a good idea. I just hope I finish before the newest one comes because I am starting that on day one. If my brother finishes before me and spoils anything I am going to have to kick his ass.
I decided a couple days ago that Hagrid should die, there I said it.

Wow. That's like when George killed Lenny in Of Mice and Men.
Hagrid could be vulnerable. I have no use for him.
The only one that would TRULY piss me off is if they kill McGonagall. But if they do kill her off, I hope she opens up a can of whoop ass first.

Hey Grover, Dave loves those George R.R. Martin books! He wants to know if you read the first two... and he is eagerly awaiting the 4th book in that series. They sound kinda disturbing to me...
There is going to be an HBO series of them sometime soon.

I have read them, all except the most recent one. They're not that disturbing. If I ever plan to read the lastet one I would have to re-read the others though because they are kind of complex and there are a ton of characters so there is a lot I forgot. I think the HBO series should be interesting, too bad I don't have HBO.
Balls, Minerva McGonagall kicks ass. She's one tough bitch. Very underrated. I like her. I hope she doesn't get offed. I'm still voting for Hagrid. Kill that giant son of a bitch.

Lura, he's going to not enjoy the 4th book as much. Tom and I were discussing the book not too long ago, and both of us enjoyed them, but not NEARLY as much as the first three. The problems the guy had with the publishers really took it's toll on the book.

Laura has her book numbers wrong. Dave read book 4, actually before we did. He has the same complaints we did, and knows the whole story behind the split-books and stuff. In fact, Dave was a regular on Martin's website, really giving it to him to get his act together and stop with the political statements on his site, and to get the next book out.

Finished book 6. The second time around I am still not sure what to think about Snape. I don't know if he's going to end up being good or bad and I don't really care, I still like him. Yeah he killed Dumbledore, but he may very well be my favorite character. I'd rather see Harry end up being one of the main characters that gets killed in the last book than Snape.

If Harry dies, Voldemort will not be stopped. Evil will win. I would be shocked to see that.

They could both go down. I can't see Harry dying either, but still, I'd rather him than Snape. There are plenty of characters I'm not that attached to (especially since Sirius is gone).
I wouldn't shed any tears for Hermione or Ron either.

I just want Snape to truly be evil. I don't expect it, but it would rock.
