Folks, if you are tired of Cena's act, you wont need to worry bout seeing it for a while. He needs neck-fusion surgery, and could be out a year or more. He's been having problems to wear he has numbness in his arms. This is akin to what ended Stone Cold's career. Obviously Cena has more a reason to plug along, but this is a major setback. And, like him or not, Cena is a marketing machine, and his loss hurts the fed.
For all the crap the guy takes, he also has good matches against a variety of foes. I wish him well, but I join those who feel they could use a break.

That's a shame. Cena is much more tolerable when he doesn't have the belt. I'm not a big fan, but he does the job. Wrestling is a hell of a tough career. If you make it big, you got to be like The Rock, and get out before you suffer a serious injury like that.

I don't know about that. I am totally for going out on top but Cena's only been around 6 years and he's young. I am sure he didn't forsee any career threatening injuries. How long would you say one's career should be then? I think he'll be back. And if not he can always have a career making bad movies.

Every match has the potential for a career ending injury, and look at the old time greats and how much pain they are in. It's a VERY difficult call.
I would say go out when you have enough money financially to last you. I would think that a guy like Cena, on that level, makes 7 figures, or at least very high 6 figures. If I were Cena, I think I'd try to come back for one more big PPV to show that I can do it, and then stop.
What good is the money if you can't enjoy it? The B movie thing is what he should worry about.

He's only 29. I don't think he could quit now and not want to go back at some point. Unless he absolutely had to. Money is a wonderful thing but sometimes it is about more than that.

No doubt. He must love what he's doing. You kind of have to love it to get where he is, but I think The Rock was about 29 too when he walked away. He did it perfectly. He was a megastar, left at the top of his game, no major injuries, and managed to carve out a nice acting career. He won't be an A list actor and won't be Ah-nold, but he's got a nice living.

Everyone has a price in some respect but not in every respect. There are plenty of things I couldn't be paid to do.
I see your point that if Cena walked away before this happened he would have gone out on his own terms. That's how I would want to go out. But not before what I felt was my time. If this didn't happen and there was no way to know that it would, like him or hate him it wasn't his time to go.

The tough part is that to do it right, you HAVE to walk out WELL before it's your time. The Rock probably had another 10 good years, but those 10 years would have left him beaten up badly.

Cena will come back. He loves it too much. Thats why he put up with 300 days a year on the road, between his matches and all the promotional things he did for WWE. Even things like Make a Wish, he is like the all-time celebrity leader in appearances. He loves being who he is, he gets off on the reaction of the crowd. He grew up a fan. I am sure this is killing him.
I dont know John Cena personally, but I think the money is just a bonus to him. He'll do whatever he can to come back.

I agree with all of that. He does love it and all that comes with it. You kind of have to in order to get to his position. But the cost is his health.

Now all of a sudden things are not so dark. This is from Wrestling Observer / Figure Four Weekly (www.f4wonline.com)
In great news for WWE, John Cena's surgery was a success today and the new prognosis is that he'll be able to return within two to four months. He didn't require fusion surgery, they just removed a fragment from his spinal cord that was blocking a nerve. Dr. Joseph Maroon told WWE.com that he was very positive about how the hour and a half operation went.

He was at the Smackdown/ECw tapings two hours after surgery saying hello to everyone. That has to be one of the coolest things I've ever heard of in wrestling. I've never been his biggest fan but I've never hated him, but even those who do, you have to respect the guy. I've nevermet him either but class and respect pours out of him in non-wrestling interviews and such, as well as something like this. I'm glad the surgery went fine and his timetable for being out is much less than feared.

Cena is a fantastic ambassador for the company. You do have to admire his drive and penchant for working a crowd, even if you are down on his character or style.
Hey, no joke here, what did anyone who heard it think of his rap album?

Apparently its HBK's turn, as word making the rounds right now is that Michaels suffered a torn-triceps muscle at the Raw taping earlier tonight (Raw was taped a day ahead this time around due to the Labor Day holiday, to get the guys off the road)
While the immediate take is he will be working the PPV match against Jericho, this could shelve him for a while. Maybe he needed that bodyguard after all, Cactus James!

Sure, this is more tragic than Cena and Killer Kowalski combined, but HBK get's lumped in the Cena thread. Real nice. This is the biggest loss WWE has suffered in a long time, maybe since Benoit snapping.Devastating news. But I'm not shocked at all he's going out with the arm like that. Remember when his leg was fucked and he still wrestled HHH at Cyber Sunday or Taboo Tuesday or whatever? How bad is it that he goes out injured, puts on 5 star matches, when other guys are taken right off the road? It saddens me to think despite everything, everywhere you go, Michaels efforts are still unappreciated.
I say take him off the road and rehab him sooner to get him in the title picture since Raw needs more babyfaces than Cena and Punk. They wanna put Punk over as a good champ, have him go over HBK, on the job training, ask Cena. HBK is more valuable in that role, even though the feud with Jericho is far an away the best feud of the year. Hopefully they can work around it and the injury doesn't effect the storyline too much.
And by the way, nice pic of the gang from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I was talking about this today at work. My pricing manager's former HS Football coach went to Springfield College with Cena. Cena wants to be back by the end of the year. (Info from a third unvarified party.)
