I don't like wrestling now. I just don't. I think that the facade of a legit sporting event has completely left the spectacle, and it has turned into nothing more than a soap opera starring buff guys and strippers.
So my question is this...
What chance would some of the old wrestlers, some of my faves, have in excelling in the industry today?
I think about a guy like Tully Blanchard. Nothing really impressive about his physique, but he was a super-villain who really did his job wonderfully, drawing the ire of many a fan. I can't help but think that he wouldn't even make it on an event like RAW these days.
What about my all-time fave Bruiser Brody. He was a monster...a BEAST back in the day. Today, he'd be a small guy, and his whole persona (mean brute force guy who didn't say anything...just bulldozed over people) wouldn't even play at all these days.
Anyone think there are any of the old time guys who would translate nicely into today's game?

I disagree in one sense of the facade of a legit sporting event? Really, it seemed more real with guys like Hogan or Ultimate Warrior? Hey that's cool if you like the back in the day stuff, I love any 90's stuff just cause that's what I grew up wrestling, but you're way off with it looking or seeming more fake these days, the whole point of the old ECW and the Attitude Era was to make it seem more real and legit, so I can't agree with that thinking at all.
And any of the old bad guys would still be over, a manager like Lou Albano or Classie Freddie Blassie would get monster heat. The newest HOF inductees the Von Erichs, would be huge as would Tom's guys the Freebirds. I agree with Bla nchard, all the Horsemen would still be big stars. Just because the physicality of it changed, doesn't mean the personality has left, the more personality the more over you are.

No, James.
It seemed more real with guys like Tully Blanchard, Magnum TA, the Koloffs, Bob Bachlund, etc....

You really think that an old school manager could get monster heat today?
Maybe, because most heat comes from good mic skills, and you don't get to be a manager unless you can talk.
