I had a great year in 2011, and I'm proud to say the MVP honors are mine. My 2009 picks were the key to my MVP season, as three of the five bit the big one.
The pick I'm most proud of is Amy Weinhouse, who died at the tender age of 27, but her death was not in vain as it brought a smile to my face because of this thread.
In addition to Weinhouse, 2011 saw me scratch off Liz Taylor, Kim Jong Il, and Steve Jobs. My 4 kill year falls one short of Pete's terrific 2010 5 kills.
The most satisfying death of the year at least from a personal standpoint was bin Laden. Though he wasn't on MY list, he was on Lindsey's list.
But it's a new year, and according to the Mayans, it's the last. I guess technically, that would make us all winners, but just in case they are wrong, feel free to add five more names to your list. My 2012 picks are at the bottom.
Previous picks. 2007:
1. Bob Barker 2. Bob Shepard 3. Kirk Douglas 4. Mickey Rooney 5. Farrah Fawcett
2008:
6. Bobby Heenan 7. Betty White 8. Fidel Castro 9. Bobby Murcer 10. For the young pick--Brittney Spears.
The 2009 list.
11. Amy Weinhouse 12. Patrick Swayze 13. Kim Jong Il 14. Chyna 15. Elizabeth Taylor
2010:
16: Ruth Bader Ginsburg (US Supreme Court) 17. Peter Gammons 18. Margaret Thatcher
19 Steve Jobs 20. Kirstee Alley
2011:
21. Aretha Franklin 22. Michael Douglas (first father/son combo) 23. Noel Neill 24. Zsa Zsa Gabor 25. Judge Wapner
2012:
26. Gary Carter
27. Joe Paterno 28. Eli Wallach 29. Superstar Billy Graham 30. Jerry Lewis

First blood goes to Pete for Etta James. That one was a layup, given the late December prognosis, but I refused to take her on my pool because I think it was actually Pete who gave me the news.

She was an easy one that makes up for those that just won't die.

I could have had her too, but there is a sense of honor in this great sport. Hopefully Gary Carter will come through for me.

All right. Got my first kill of 2012, and Pete gets his second. THIS is why we have the roll over. Later Joe Paterno.

Oh Holy shit. I thought I dropped my 2012 names back in January. Wanna know something? When Tom was bitching about late entries being more along the "cheating" or unfair vein, it seems that late entries are more at a DISadvantage b/c of missed opportunities. Y'know whati'm sayin'?

G. - very common pick- Steinbrenner4.) Ted -oh come on its brain cancer- Kennedy5.) Sumner Redstone -- this recession will kill him 6.) Steve Jobs - oh how I hope I am 100% wrong on this one! From 2010: 7.) Jerry Lewis 8.) Andy Rooney9.) Fidel Castro 10.) Conrad Bain 11.) Dennis Hoppermy 2011 picks: 12.) ** Etta James13.) Penny Marshall 14.) Senator Robert Byrd <---NOT AN OFFICIAL KILL! (He was dead at time of selection) 15.) Zsa Zsa <---- joining the bandwagon pick 16.) James Garner *ahem* I had Etta as my #1 for 2011! This year I'm gunning for the old comedians. 2012 predictions:17.) Jack Klugman (Yes, MSB, I've targeted a fave of yours) 18.) Earnest Borgnine19.) Phyllis Diller20.) Sid Caesar 21.) Jonathan Winters

Awww crap. Another problem of late posting, is that I see Chris also put down Klugman too. I had my guys picked out early too, just never posted. So lets see.... I'm a follower with him, (as a same year pick w/Chris), a follower w/Castro (MSB '08), Same year picks (I think?) w/Jerry Lewis - hard ta tell really - and same-to-late w/Zsa Zsa. Early pick/leading/led you guys w/Conrad Bain, & Etta

Yay, he died.
So, that just got me looking at my picks, and I noticed that one of mine from 2011, the late Senator Robert Byrd, shouldnt count.
By the time I picked him in January of last year, the longest tenured congressman in American history had already been dead for 6 months! They even let his body hang out in the capitol for public display/mourning!
How did nobody notice this? Likely b/c the 24 hour news cycle puts names like "LiLo" and "Brangelina" in our faces more frequently than political representatives and legislative debates.
Democracy is not a spectator sport people! We gotta be more informed and more involved as a country or it will be dismantled and taken away from us piece by piece while we pacify ourselves with "American Idol"
So how to handle my "14th overall pick", #3 from 2011?
1.) Do I just add a sixth one for 2012.7? 2.) If the pick is simply *lost*, thats fine by me, but it will give me an edge towards killing off that year's picks faster. 3.) Who cares? Nobody has anything invested in this malarky anyway!

Yup. Four dead, three from my 2012 picks. Thats a good grouping as they say in target practice. Not many days left for me to tie the record of five though. I've decided on only one of my 'fatal five' for 2013 so far. Looking forward to being punctual this year too.
