QUOTE MTV will begin airing episodes of "Wrestling Society X" starting on Tuesday, January 30th at 10:30pm both eastern and pacific times. There have been several incorrect start dates floating around the internet, but PWInsider.com has confirmed that January 30th is the correct date (although, this is MTV, who have been known to make sudden changes to their schedule). Obviously, this means the show will be going head-to-head with ECW on Sci Fi, which airs at 10pm.
MTV has agreed to air ten episodes of the project, which will combine wrestling with live music performances by bands including Deftones, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory and others.
The wrestling end of the project is being handled by Big Vision producer (and former XPW official) Kevin Klinerock as the head writer with Vampiro and Cody Michaels also involved in the creative end as agents.
Talent being used for the project includes Ruckus, Vampiro, Sean Waltman, Jack Evans, Matt Sydal, Lizzy Valentine, Teddy Hart, The Human Tornado, Dragon's Gate stars Masato Yoshino and Genki Horiguchi, Colt Cabana, Jimmy Jacobs, Ricky Banderas, Aaron Aguilera, B-Boy and others. Tapings took place last month in California for the project.
Thats some decent indy Talent.dont know why they decided to add music since MTV never shows music anyway.

The bands will be playing while the matches go on, I believe. I dont like a lot of things about this, including the 30 minute airtime. You think TNA matches are rushed cluster-f's, wait till you see what they try to cram into 30 minutes.
Also, by the time this stuff airs, it will be months old.

Try this teaser, out in a press release by MTV today....this looks to be quite the spectacle.
Each week on “Wrestling Society X,” the most talented warriors the world has ever known will battle each other and their surroundings, creating an experience that will alter viewers lives irrevocably. Featuring an onslaught of death-defying feats, aerobatic maneuvers, and truly athletic performances, “Wrestling Society X” will showcase the unique talents of some of the best in the business including aerial assault artist Jack Evans, the arrogant catalog models, Matt Sydal & Lizzy Valentine, the amazing third generation heir to a wrestling legacy Teddy Hart, as well as the likes of former World Champions Vampiro and Sean "6-Pac" Waltman. Also appearing in each episode will be a very special musical guest, performing live in front of hundreds of rabid fans and the fiery combatants.

Of course they will be. The matches will be so short it will make a TNA Impact match look like the HBK/Hart 60 minute marathon match.

This thing actually debuts tonight at 11, although the premiere is being advertised for next week. Its just one of those zany things MTV is known to do.
MTV.com lists the show as airing on these 2 days before the "debut" on Tuesday the 30th. Friday 11pm Saturday night 12am

Thats awesome. And I've been looking for an old-school hooded guy for years now.
I have stayed away from profiles, as the MTV website is a mess, and frustrated me into not bothering. I shall check out what you attached, if it opens.

I most prefer a combination of old school wrestling along with new spotty stuff, but I'm certainly not going to watch this because it's spotfests. I think the electrical shocks and all that are a bit cheesy, but I'll watch some spotfests for a half-hour of some fun wrestling.

All I need to know is that X-Pac, Six-Pac is in it to know not to watch it.
I would imagine that he's a nice guy...maybe....but he has always brought out a negative reaction in me. It's just the way he looks...he looks like an utter douchebag. And he's never come off as overly tough...I think he got by on his acrobatic ability rather than his toughness. By no means do I claim to be some kind of tough guy, but X-Pac is one wrestler who I firmly believe (maybe I'm dellusional) I could kick his ass in a real fight.
He goes down with Bjorn Borg as another celeb/athlete who just pisses me off to look at them.

I met X-Pac back in his Global Wrestling days at some appearance, way back in the early 90s. He looked 15 then. He was a nice guy, playing video games while he exchanged pleasantries with us. He does look like a douche, he has been drug-ravaged over the years, and there are all kinds of sorbid stories always swirling around him. But fans liked the guy, his wise-ass attitude kept him in the spotlight for a good amount of time.
He wont ruin a wrestling show. With only 30 minutes weekly (albeit 30 minutes that will be replayed throughout the week 75 times) no one will be featured long enough to piss you off all too much.
I DVR'd both Smackdown and Wrestling X, and should be watching them this afternoon.

By the way, all reviews from "the smarts" are terrible.
Exploding rings, high spot after high spot, and so-called "garbage wrestling."

yes sancho he did, and he was awesome. even had a drink with him at the bar after the show and he's a really funny guy, as you'd imagine.
WSX seems like the epitome of "sports entertainment" vs "wrestling." so there's not grapple holds or submission maneuvers, but there's flippy flips onto thumbtacks and...ugh...electrical devices. the smarks and pure-wrestling fans may not enjoy it, but i'm all for any wrestling-type entertainment on tv, and i'd love to see TNA or WWE pick up some of these guys just to see my indy boys make it to a big show (though Vince would job them out to shit and they wouldn't be able to show their true abilities, it'd be fun to see). hopefully the ratings will be strong enough to warrant a season 2 and they may do some angles or something to keep people watching.

I watched it and it was ok...It was as expected, very over the top and high spots galore but I will continue to watch for one very simple reason.... NEW JACK

I finally did watch the first episode, although I still have the 2nd one gathering dust in the DVR. It is what it was. It was alright, the explosions were really corny and the announcing (especially the obnoxious ring announcer....besides Joel Gertner have you ever seen a ring announcer trying to be part of the show so bad?) was terrible.
Having Zack Wild (who looked like a cross between Balls Mahoney and one of the Blu Brothers) announce at all was a mistake I hope they do not continue.
I was never a big fan of "high-spot" wrestling. I hate the idea of 3 minute matches. But the show flowed alright, albeit with a lot of corn. That Lizzie Valentine is quite the peach. I look forward to seeing some of the characters (Matt Classic, in particular) but I already made an executive decision not to tape this stuff for future posterity, and for a wrestling collector like me, thats a bad sign for your promotion.

I caught the last 10 minutes or so of it. During that 10 minutes, they had 5 minutes of commercials. I'd like to give it another shot though.

Interestingly enough, I did catch some TNA too last weekend. It wasn't half bad, and yeah, I saw some of Mr. Backlund. Clearly, he is the best superstar on their roster, and it's only a matter of time before he rules TNA with an iron fist.
They do not want exacerbate Mr. Backlund.
When is TNA's regular time? I know it airs Thursdays, but is it 9pm or 10pm? I'll admit, I liked what I saw.

From all accounts, a 2 hour time slot for TNA is imminent. By the way, next Monday, with Raw off for the zany dog show, TNA will be showing a 2-hour special, featuring 5 slam-bang PPV matches from their past, as a selling point for the product.
Now back to your regularly scheduled MTV wrestling show thread.

With The OC ending in 3 weeks, I will have an opening at 9pm on Thursdays. Seems like a decent fit.
