Skaaland, a member of the WWE family for the past fifty years, passed away last night at the age of 83.
Skaaland is best known to wrestling fans as a manager, having worked ringside with Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund. It was Skaaland who tossed in the towel when Backlund was locked in the Iron Sheik's camel clutch to end Backlund's title reign.
Skaaland was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1994.
I will never forget him throwing in the towel on Backlund vs. The Iron Shiek....Mr. Backlund would have passed out from the pain before giving up and the GOlden Boy realizing this did the right thing....RIP Arnold you'll be missed..

Mr. Backlund never was pinned and never submitted. Skaaland was presumptuous at best, and ego-maniacal at worst. He sold Mr. Backlund out. And for that, he deserved a taste of the dreaded crossfaced chickenwing.

In all due respect, I had not realized he was still alive. Rest in peace, Mr Skaaland. I really only remember him from the Backlund situation. Perhaps I will get to see more of his body of work on 24/7.
Been a bad few weeks for the wrestling industry in regards to passings. Bad News, Ernie Ladd, The Golden Boy Arnold Skaaland.

Any fan of the Westchester county center in the mid 80s should remember his son george, who opened up every single card with a 30 minute draw so they could sell merchandise and food.
