Ring of Honor announced Wednesday, May 2 that it would be premiering on PPV on July 1. The PPV, pretaped on May 12 in Manhattan, N.Y., would be the first time ROH is available widely on TV in the U.S. ROH will provide inDemand with a new PPV every two months, and use that PPV to drive new fans to its website and hopefully to purchase DVDs and live event tickets, both of which are ROH’s life blood.
I never really got into seeking out ROH DVDs. Basically, I watch and own too much wrestling as it is. I grew up in the days when "workrate" was not everything, so I am content to watch two slugs go at it in a sloppy brawl and dont need to find a 60 minute draw from two guys that are big on the Indy scene.
That said, I have gotten into ROH's offshoot promotion, the all-female group SHIMMER. Women who can actually wrestle. Some look good, but some look like stone. Its about the wrestling. Its weird and pretty cool to watch women doing flip-armbars, all kinds of Asian suplexes, and crazy submission moves. In fact, my favorite female wrestler (who is currently in WWE Developmental) - Shantelle Taylor, was an integral part of their early shows.
I also own a couple of ROH produced Samoa Joe VCR releases I got on sale, and never actually watched in their entirety. So this PPV news is not for me, but I am sure some of you would be interested.
One positive note...the price-point for these 2 hour PPVs should be between "$9.95 - $14.95" and available "on demand" so you can watch it at anytime, and not have to set aside a block of time on a Sunday night to watch or miss. Its a can't lose for the Ring of Honor fellows.
