Culled off the Torch board, via pwinsider.
Moments after Raw ended posters on a Raw thread were already speculating that Cena was hurt, and pointing out little hints of such. Seems to be something behind this.
Details are still sketchy but the word coming from backstage at the Raw taping is that WWE champion John Cena is believed to have suffered a torn right pectoral muscle during his main event match against Ken Kennedy. He is tentatively scheduled to undergo a MRI tomorrow to examine the severity of the injury. I don't have to tell anyone reading this what a major blow this would be to the entire company if Cena needs to be out for any extended period of time.
The injury appeared to happen during a botched hiptoss on Kennedy that ended awkwardly with Kennedy landing atop Cena. Cena then nailed an armdrag. The two ended up in the corner, which led to a clean break. Cena backed up to the opposite corner and was obviously favoring his arm immediately. Cena gutted through the match and post-bout angle with Randy Orton, where he was laid out following a RKO on the announcer's table.

It's gotten to the point where I can't tell between one of Cena's match and the next, sadly HHH will be champ sooner than later at this point, which isn't a step up, but any change will be a good change. It sucks for the company, but I couldn't be happier.

CENA IS OUT!!!!!
Cena out with pec tear, must surrender WWE Championship By Bryan Robinson Written: October 2, 2007BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – WWE Champion John Cena has suffered a complete tear of his right pectoral tendon and is heading into surgery, according to noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Because of the seriousness of the injury, WWE officials will not allow Cena to compete this Sunday at No Mercy, and he will have no choice but to surrender the title.
Dr. Andrews said Cena could miss between six and eight months of action. Cena was injured during his match with Mr. Kennedy Monday night on Raw. According to WWE physician Dr. Ferdinand Rios, Cena's injury was more serious than initially thought.
"He has a complete tear of his pectoralus major muscle," Rios said. "Because he’s so big, [the tendon tear] is behind the muscle. It was hard to diagnose."
Rios said Cena will be hospitalized for a few days to learn the rehabilitation procedure he must undergo. His arm will be immobilized for a week and then therapists may allow him to start moving it so that the arm doesn't become stiff.
Rios said that Cena is so dedicated to WWE that he wouldn't be surprised to see him return sooner than later.
"I suspect that John might be able to come back sooner [than most people with this injury], as he’ll train vigorously," Rios said.
Before visiting Dr. Andrews, Cena had said last night, “No matter how serious the injury, one way or another I’ll be ready to compete on Sunday.”
But despite Cena’s vow, WWE officials will not allow him to compete at No Mercy. Therefore, he must surrender the WWE Championship.
WWE officials vow that there will be a WWE Championship Match this Sunday at No Mercy and a new WWE Champion will be crowned.
Stay with WWE.com for further updates on Cena’s condition and on No Mercy as they become available.

The worst part is that he has to do the old surrender the belt gag rather than drop it.
I doubt they'll do it, but I would LOVE to see Orton take the belt, have a reign of terror, which would set up a Cena return possibly at Wrestlemania, which is 5 months away. More realistically would be KOTR.

Yeah, it sucks he has to just drop it the way Edge did. I don't care for Cena, but I don't want him out the picture for a few months, because he's still entertaining. The thing is, if they give the belt to Orton, who's going to feud with him? HHH? Lashley?

Interesting question. HHH really hasn't been in the title picture yet. Lashley definitely is, but how much longer is HE on the shelf?
I haven't watched last night's Raw yet.
They could turn Kennedy face and do that. But that's not the best call.
I'd like to see Orton have some sort of reign of terror. But I don't even know if he gets the belt.
Yet giving him the belt makes some sense. He can really taunt Cena's injury. Another legend killed.

Judging by last night's result, I don't think Kennedy is being regarded as a top flight contender for the time being.

Get it through your head, Kennedy is severely in the doghouse. He's lucky he kept his job. And ENOUGH with the idea of him as a babyface - his strength is in the cocky heel persona. He is not a badass like Steve Austin, he wont play as a "good guy" right now.
Lashley is off the radar. If he is close to returning WWE may simply tell him to stay home a little longer, cause even a blind man can see he is a red flag with all this steroid business going on.
I dont think they are going to rush anything with this guy, but dont forget what appears to be the imminent return of Chris Jericho. At least the babyface side wont be so crowded with starpower on the Raw side with Cena out for a while.
If Orton does end up with the belt, it will be to feud with HHH. Thats where they wanted to go anyway.

I look forward to them turning Kennedy face. But anyway, maybe this will give airtime to someone new from OVW.

Actually, I think a face Kennedy might be corny. He's like Jericho, 10x better as a heel than he was as a face.

I also see some Austin in him--a guy that the crowd will cheer no matter what he does.

Hey, idiot - what have you been watching? Kennedy is NOT cheered in the ring. Fans chant along with his mic gag (they did the same for a nobody like Estrada) and he got a HUGE pop - in his hometown. He is NOT cheered in the ring, and has never been cheered in the ring.
Dont equate people shouting along to "MRRRRRR KENNNNNEDDDDYY" in cadence to "cheering."
You really dont get it...

Seriously, he's more Jericho then Austin. If he becomes face, he will be totally different than he was as a heel, and in most really good heels, he won't be nearly as good.

would be cool if Jericho came back and won the title, but I doubt it, it sucks that Cena is out for awhile tho, but it opens the door for some1 else.

Hey dumb dumb. I have been watching, and Kennedy HAS been getting cheered. If Kennedy were a face, and didn't change his gimmick, he'd be fine. Although I do agree that most really good heels aren't as good as faces.
He will turn face eventually.

Of course he will, cause unless your name is Ricky Steamboat or Tito Santana, EVERYONE turns heel eventually.
LOL @ this - on WWE.COM they were running a poll on who the fans would like to see as the next WWE Champion, and last time I was on last night there were over 500,000 votes cast, and VAL VENIS had over 50% of them. Other notables were HHH running 2nd at 14%, Kennedy at 10%, Orton at a meek 4%, and internet darling Jeff Hardy in Rory and Robbie McAllister range at a piddling 3%.

Yeah, worst case scenario. But the betting men are saying closer to 6-8. You KNOW Cena will train like Hell to get back, the WWE will make it worth his while to get back, and these things are never as long as the worst-case scenario anyhow.

Balls I hate to agree with you but I think Kennedy does get cheers...Overwhelming no but a good amount........I think it is a majority of the same group of "Cena haters" that cheer Kennedy for the most part........

Ok, here's the latest. Kennedy may have even more trouble.
Keep in mind many were pushing for him to be FIRED for the drug snafu, coming out and speaking and being proven a liar. He was lucky in many ways to skirt that.
Well, Cena's injury is being pretty much blamed on a botched move by Kennedy right now. Its out there that Vince is furious he is losing his pet-project for what could be a year. And now the rumors are out there that this may end up costing Kennedy the job he managed to not lose before.

Well, if you are not at least taping TNA to rip through at your convenience, you're making a big mistake. I myself enjoy TNA more than WWE. They also have a heap of those you know and love from WWE TV circa 2000-2006.
One thing has nothing to do with the other. No reason to pick just one over the other. They both have their strong points.

Doesn't make much sense to have anyone else as champ but Orton for a month or two and then drop it to HHH. Otherwise there's going to be a battle royal or a mini tournament sunday night where the winner of HHH and Umaga faces the winner or someone else, Orton and someone. This is still nothing more then what's the best way to get the belt on Triple H.
Kennedy is screwed.

I agree about Orton, but I'd want him to be champ longer than that. Give him a good run and it will mean more when he drops the belt. I hate when heels are used as transitional champs.

It happened with Edge twice then he finally got his big push. Then got injured. Like Tom said, why make Orton go after Cena for three months, go into a stip match this sunday which makes it more likely he would have beat Cena if not to set up a drop to Triple H? It was the plan all along. Now instead of having to job to Orton, Cena just forfeits and they'll put it on him this sunday anyway.
They can easily have a backstage thing where he just demands the belt for taking out Cena, to which he's denied, and still wins in the match anyway. More heat for him. I can't see a run for him going more than two or three months. Three months is the Runble and I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly Triple H wants to go into Mania as champ so for Orton it will be similar to his first title run.
