WWE.com reported today the passing of Lillian Ellision, the Fabulous Moolah, who dominated women's wrestling from the late 50s into the early 80s as booker, world champion and most famous woman wrestler of her time.
Moolah passed way in her home in Columbia, SC, last night at the age of 84.

Yes, a sad passing. Moolah was obviously still spry, and active on and off in her lifestyle in and around wrestling. She last appeared at Mania 23 and apparently looked quite well and was very zesty. I will miss the Moolah / Mae comic tandem indeed. From all accounts Moolah was a wonderful woman and much loved.
May she rest easy.

back in the late '60's, early '70's,the WWWF didnt feature the women a helluva lot...they would come in for a short run maybe once a year(the same held true for the mighty midgets)but these were some tough,no nonsense ladies....besides moolah, there was toni rose, donna christianello and sue green,to name a few...these ladies werent too easy on the eyes but they got in there and could really work a match...not until the age of "rock & wrestling "did the ladies get big time exposure and even then, when wendi richter beat moolah for the strap,it was just a work to hype cyndi lauper....alot of what we see today is nothing but eye candy, which i have no problem with(maria!!!)but some of these ladies today owe alot to moolah and im sure they will honor her for all she gave to the business in the coming weeks

Very sad, took some of the best bumps an old broad ever did. RIP.
Is Balls going to ask if the WWE wished her well on future endeavors?

Former female wrestler Donna Christanello remembers her longtime friend and the woman who trained her, Fabulous Moolah:
I worked for Lillian since 1963 when I came to North Carolina to wrestle. She was not only someone I worked for, she was my chosen sister. I have a brother and a sister, but Lillian was my chosen sister. She’s been a lifelong friend.
I came to North Carolina to learn to wrestle, and when we met each other, it just seemed like we were meant to be friends. No matter what little quirks we had, we accepted each other for how we were.
Insofar as wrestling is concerned, Lillian loved it. She would eat, drink and sleep wrestling. Nothing meant more to her in her life than her family and wrestling. You couldn’t watch anything in the house unless it was wrestling. Her family and wrestling, that was her life.
Outside of the ring, Lillian taught me all about friendship. She was just like her ring name, Fabulous.

I was telling this story to Tom the second I found out. BEFORE I found out, and THIS MORNING, I was just wondering to myself when Moolah would die, and I even pictured a thread on this board.
That's never happened to me before, and it's creepy.
I think I killed her with my mind.

Yeah, it's a rare coincidence when you think of someone old, and then the old person dies. Way to go Cleo.

The fact that you were even spending part of your morning thinking of the Fabulous Moolah is disturbing in and of itself.

James--it's not just thinking about someone old, dying. It's someone old dying on the same DAY, possibly at the exact same moment, that was so damn cool.
And that's the thing--I don't think about Moolah--ever. I don't even remember the train of thought that led to thinking about Moolah dying. But it happened. And she keeled over.
You're all just jealous because you can't kill people with your mind. I'm like Professor X, but with hair, and I can walk.

If I'm not mistaken, Moolah won the belt back from Wendi Richter disguised as another wrestler. (Japaneese dressed in all black w/ a mask?)

The Spider Lady. That was actually a screwjob finish, Richter did not know she was going to lose that match, and she did not know it was Moolah under the hood.

I remember how popular Richter was in her heyday. Too bad she had the rift with McMahon.

I did not realize that it was a screw job. To me it looked like part of the storyline, but that was like 20 years ago and ia was a kid. Also, didn't Richter end up with GLOW?

The clips of Moolah training with Captain Lou leading up to the Richter match were priceless. I remember she would be eating like a 2 foot stuffed hero and Captain Lou would be ranting how he had her on a diet of "unborn virgin" goatsmilk.....Classic.... RIP Moolah......I have to say I am surprised that Mae outlasted her.....

Especially since Mae took so many bumps in the past few years

The possible cause of death for Fabulous Moolah was a heart attack or blood clot related to recent shoulder replacement surgery according to her daughter Mary Austin.
