Cap mentioned it on here late last night, I had been meaning to mention this too. I wonder how many episodes they have in the can, I have the DVR recording all of these for now. Over the weekend I will start watching what I backed up, and I will have more later. Looking forward to seeing Billy Jack Haynes working out of this fed.

Paul Orndorff wrestled Dr death IN the main event of one of the shows last night, went to a double count out, but what amused me was Mr wonderful's entrance music MC hammer's "U can't touch this" and man Bruno is horrible in the booth

I waded in a bit this morning, I have this weeks entries all backed up on the DVR. Funny to see Ivan and Nikita battling it out again. Hate to see a "family" fractured. Enjoyed the Cactus Jack / David Sammartino tilt. Jacks statement of "I would rather hurt a man than love a woman" was a classic quote.
LOL @ the fans chanting "jailbird" at poor Ken Patera.

It appears the UWF is were all 1980's WWFers went when they were put out to pasture....there were even Rusty Brooks and Dusty Wolf sightings...

Oh, I know that...I was just pitching in. When I read your post I had no idea who you were talking about, as I had not made that episode yet. When I saw him yesterday I let out a whoop. The guy was gold. The emotional promo Boogie Woogie Man cut on him was intense, and then you see this goofy guy all in white come out, calling the fans fatsos.
I hope to see more of Colonel Red. Hey, Cap, did you see the phony "Chief Jay Strongbow" they were shilling on us?

Yes I took a double take and then wondered if maybe it was supposed to be his son or something..Shame on Bruno chiming in on the mic on this....

I was also very surprised to see they had a show at The Penta Hotel across from MSG in the early 90's.....I don't remember that....

I remember reading about these shows in the Observer newsletter. At the time I was off at school and such, and that is why I was not around.
I wonder how many episodes are in the can, and how quickly we are going to roll into the same matches being aired again, even though they are cut down into 30 minute doses. Its funny how the timeline jumps around, from the Bruno/Abrams called shows, to the DeGeorge (who now covers the Marlins just like Kim Jones covers the Yankees, sans the humping the players hopefully) and Bruno or John Tolos.
I saw some bandy about the Strongbow thing, and the going thing was although the announcers never said flat-out it was the original, they did not call him a son or a clone or anything. In fact, Abrams referred to the "famous war-dance he is known for" and same such a few times. Bruno should have been ashamed, I wonder if he got a call - or better yet, a chop - from Chief Jay for such shenanigans.

I never realized how repetitive Lou Albano was....his promos are, quite frankly, highly overrated. And sort of grating. I enjoyed seeing a young Louie Spicolli battling Brian Blair. Check out Brian Blair getting himself into messes with both Spivey and Cowboy Bob.
And is this the Ivan Koloff show or what? Ivan is like, on every show, from each and every era of that promotion. I am happy, I think Ivan kicks ass.

Yes this Captain Lou and he's talkin to you...So good, so fine, so proud......Though I can never grow tired of him mentioning the medulla oblongta......
On the latest is is a Killer Bees reunion..I had forgot about their gimmick of putting on the masks in order to confuse their opponents after one got beat up (the ole Executioners gimmick). Orndoff was also rendered a bloody mess at the hands of Dr. Death (with ensuing interview in Cat. Lou's corner)

So, burning through the last of the ones I had backed up on the DVR, I stumbled upon my first repeat episode. If they are already repeating episodes, they only got through 3 weeks with "original" old programming.
Oh, one more thing......LOL @ "Mr. Red!"

As bad as Bruno is on the mic, he is so bad ,that I love listening to him. Maybe it is just memories of him on Saturday mornings and the good ole days....I especially love when he trips over himself saying how impartial he has to remain when his son David is in the ring and he is commentating.....

I am not so sure the Col. DeBeers actions of yelling, beating up and spitting on the black referee would fly these days...........

I agree with you on Bruno. He gives me a hankering back to the old days. And I will tell you what, Craig DeGeorge (who now works as Craig Minervini and does Florida Marlin pre and postshow work) is surprisingly solid as a play by play guy.
I am almost ready to fold tent on this show, as it seems the last few I burned are all repeats. If nothing new is coming on, I am going to stop recording.

This is in danger of falling off my TIVO list shortly as well..I am all Bob Orton and Ivan Koloff'd out..........Though last few I watched Bruno has been golden on the mic giving me a few LOL comments with his description of the action...

So, check it out....ESPN Classic will be replacing old UWF episodes with classic AWA starting on Feb 27th.
I am much more into this, although its only AWA stuff that was shown on ESPN, which some call the darker days of the promotion. I still enjoyed it. Curt Hennig was your heel champ around this time. Tommy Rich and Kevin Kelly went at it in a storied feud, which included a crazy arm-wrestling battle.
So tune into AWA Wrestling starting next week!

That's great news. I use to watch AWA on ESPN at midnight on Saturday nights. They used to have some pretty good matches when Rick Martel was the champ feuding with Stan Hansen, Scott Hall was tag team champs with Curt Henning, also Larry Zbyszko was the man back than. At that time they also had one of the bigger pay per views Wrestle Rock. I can't wait for it to start!

I am with you. I am hoping they get around to showing the New Years Eve ONE HOUR DRAW between Nick Bockwinkle and Curt Hennig somewhere along the line. Most wrestling pundits agree its one of the greatest wrestling encounters of all time. i have it on a tape at home, but it is choppy and disturbing quality. I want to see this top notch, tip-top.

He was gone by the late 80s, I fear. Larry Nelson was the main guy, the stocky guy with the Santa beard. He ended up writing a "tell-all" that has some sordid tales in it, life in the AWA was quite the party with cocaine and naked women all about.
I think this is more the Larry Nelson era.
