If there are any other Rocky-related topics you wish to see covered, feel free to mention them and if I deem it worthy, I will do a blog.

Why is hard to accept a not-so-bright boxer losing all of his money. If anything that piece of the plot makes Rocky V all that much more realistic. Countless pro boxers have gone broke after their careers were over.

He didn't go broke after his career was over. He went broke because Paulie signed over power of attorney to a corrupt accountant when they went to Russia.
Let's think about that. How does PAULIE even have the RIGHT to do that? What bank would honor a document giving power of attorney for millions of dollars signed by a guy's brother in-law?
Right THERE you have a lawsuit. Even if you COULDN'T find the accountant, the bank would likely be responsible.
But let's suspend that disbelief and say Paulie actually HAD the legal right to do this and Rocky was wiped out.
Let's also add that the brain damage sustained in his fight with Drago prevented him from taking a few quick fights to get out of the mess.
One word:
endorsements.
Picture this situation.
We're at a point in the Cold War where we HATE the USSR. They are the REAL Evil Empire.
Imagine a Russian fighter comes here in the real world. Or an al-qaeda fighter sent by bin Laden. He gets into an exhibition fight with arguably the best fighter in history, who retired 5 years before, but was like Ali. He was not only dominant, but charismatic. In short, people loved the guy.
Bin Laden's boy not only wins the fight by KO in the second round, but KILLS him. An American icon killed in the ring.
He dies in the arms of the current champ, who was in his corner, and is well known to be his best friend--the result of two amazing wars they had.
This champ is arguably more popular than the dead guy, in part because he represented everything great about this country--an underdog coming out of nowhere and fulfilling his dream.
This guy has been champ for awhile now--even defying the odds again by regaining a lost title against a monster who knocked him out.
No small reason behind that was the dead champion training him.
The current champ is popular, and now takes it upon himself to avenge his fallen friend.
Rocky was fighting for Apollo, fighting for the American way of life, and fighting for his entire country.
But this guy was a monster. His brutal killing of the former champ was so bad that the boxing authorities refused to even sanction the fight.
The current champ knows he has to fight this guy by any means necessary, so he agrees to go into the heart of al-qaeda territory, and fights with a terrorist referee, a terrorist crowd, and bin Laden himself will be in attendance.
The fight happens and the monster gives the champ a terrific beating. Knockdown after knockdown.
Head shot after head shot, connecting with punches that would kill most people.
The entire United States is in his corner, watching on TV, and at a point where most people would have just stayed down and quit, the champ connects with a shot of his own, which suddenly gives hope to the entire free world.
The fight continues and while the monster is still winning, and there's no way the judges would ever give the champ a decision, the American champ keeps on fighting and finally, with seconds to go in the final round, the monster falls, and the champ wins.
Americans would be thrilled at this point.
That champion would be royalty.
He could run for President and win.
Now, even assuming the brain damage is kept out of the public eye, add the sob story of him getting ripped off out of all his money by a corrupt accountant while he was training. Add footage of all his stuff being sold at auction.
You really think the guy couldn't do commercials because he worked for a loan shark over 10 years before? The guy did commercials when he first WON the title and no one brought up Gazzo.
He would be making more endorsement money than Jordan.
Americans are a forgiving people, but given what Rocky had done against Drago, people would probably be sending money to him in the mail.
He's not a boxer that retired and lost his money. There is NO WAY that man would have been broke.

Easily--especially since Gone With The Wind was not released this year, nor in this decade.
Rocky Balboa should get the nomination for Best Picture, barring the snooty nominators.

One day you will have to watch the final fight scene of Rocky V with me, and I'll recite the lines as they are spoken.

I can recite all of Clubber's lines from III.
My favorite of course being, "Don't need no has-beens messin' in my corner!"

You could be right. I'll double check that. But I still think Apollo should have fought Clubber himself.

Rocky III must have been quite a dilema for you Balls....with your emotions torn between Stallone and Hogan. I'm sure you were relieved when they made nice at the end of the match.
And to all you luscious ladies out there....Thunderlips is here....in the flesh baby.....

One question....does Rocky's age roughly coincide with Stallone's? Someone told me Stallone is 59.
Rocky came out around 77....don't remember if his age was given in the movie...but let's just assume, best case, the character was a washed up fighter in his late 20s. Let's say 28 for argument's sake. So he we are in 2006, 29 years later. Are we to assume that a (28 + 29 = ) 57-year-old fighter is fighting a professional boxing match in this latest installment?
George Foreman won a suspect title against suspect talent at age 45 in real life. I don't remember who it was on section39.com (hopefully it wasn't you Balls, or else you come off looking bad here) but someone was arguing that Superman sucked because of the far-fetched story line (how you can expect to be entertained by a movie about a guy in tights who flies and still hold it up to reality standards is beyond me).
By the way, Superman could kick Rocky's AND Apollo's asses at the same time...even in their prime.

Rocky's age in the movie does indeed correspond to Stallones real life age. The movie says Rocky is in his 50s.
I believe this movie takes place in 2005, but I won't be able to confirm that until I see the DVD.
Rocky should be about 60 years old. If the movie takes place in early 2005, Rocky would likely be 59. And I'm almost postive they said he was in his 50s.
When I get the DVD, I'll be able to see more numbers. They only flash in the movies. You actually get more in that area in this one because the fight is more like an HBO fight.
I don't remember saying I thought the storyline was far fetched in Superman. I didn't like the storyline though.
As for Rocky's age, while Foreman won the title at 45, I don't believe that was the RECORD for oldest boxer. Larry Holmes was 53 when he had his last fight. I don't know if that's the record even.
Rocky's age was a major issue in the film. In fact, it was arguably the biggest theme.
As you would expect in real life, the press in the movie had a field day with it.

Foreman was the oldest fighter to win a title, not the oldest to fight.
I don't know the story of the new Rocky movie, but if he wins a title, a real title, a MAJOR title at 59, then that's whack! Foreman won the WBO (I believe) which was a horseshit title....it's like winning the Arena Football Championship and calling yourselves World Champions of football.

Actually, Foreman won two of the big three (IBF and WBA). It wasn't even a malarky win. The champion was beating Foreman the whole fight, but Foreman caught him with one shot that knocked him on his ass in something like the 10th round. What was lame was how he acted after winning the belts.
First, he refused to fight Tony Tucker, so WBA stripped him. Then he defended the IBF against a guy and won a decision. A rematch was ordered because it was controversial. Foreman didn't want to go to Germany, so he was stripped of that title too.
