I remembered the 10th round KO. I saw it on HBO. But the rest came from Wikipedia.
I don't want to get too specific about Rocky Balboa for at least a month out of courtesy. On January 20, spoiler warnings will be damned.

Thanks for the warning. Now everyone who has not seen the movie will know to simply stop coming to these Rocky threads at that time altogether.

What are you talking about? There are no spoilers in talking about a George Foreman fight from over 10 years ago, in real life.

OK, I stand corrected on the title Foreman won...but the facts prove my point even more so.
Foreman couldn't beat a scrub fighter in Tommy Morrison, failing to gain the malarky WBO title.
Then Foreman beat Michael Moorer with a "lucky punch" (I don't really like the term "lucky punch" - he threw the punch and he meant to throw it) in a fight he was losing badly to a guy who was clearly on the decline.
Then later Foreman lost to Shannon Briggs. The point is - at 45 Foreman was more of a sideshow, picking and choosing his fights carefully in order to look good, than a legit heavyweight contender....and Foreman got away with that because of his sheer bulk. If Foreman had been the same size and shape as he was during his "real" career as a fighter, he'd have been pummeled at age 45. Now I'm supposed to believe that a 200lb-210lb fighter (Rocky) can still fight pushing 60???

That's the whole point though. Strength and punching power are the last things to go. Foreman, even at age 45, had the power to knock anyone out. The guy was one of the best KO fighters in history.
Like Foreman, Rocky took a very long layoff. But unlike Foreman, he gets put right into the ring with the champ, but like Foreman, he's a puncher with a lot of strength who stands a puncher's chance.
There was nothing weak about Foreman's comeback. The man won the heavyweight championship.
The point of the Rocky saga is an underdog showing that hard work can make anything possible. Hell, in the first movie, he was a club fighter going against the best champion of all time, and he went the distance.
That was a miracle in itself.
And by the way, Tommy Morrison was a legit fighter. The WBO may be a malarky title, but he beat some damn good fighters, including a few former champs. He got AIDS. That's what happens when you mess with Rocky.

Rocky should have been able to punch the AIDS out of him, or punch him so hard AIDS couldn't infect him.
Rocky is weak.

Why would Rocky do that? He was an asshole. He got what he deserved. In fact, he hit him so hard, the AIDS went into some other asshole.

First, Night at the Museum was a big hit, second, Rocky has made over $20 million so far, on a $24 million budget. $24 million barely covers Ben Stiller's salary.
Rocky Balboa is going to be a goldmine for the studio.

Hold on a second Balls. I understand your point about the moral behind the Rocky Balboa story and the parallels to George Foreman. But easy on the Tommy Morrison hype. Tommy Morrison may have been a legit heavyweight pro, but by no means was he ever a legit heavyweight champ. He won ONE impressive fight - he beat Razor Ruddock. The rest of his so-called impressive wins came over big names way past their prime.

I never said Morrison was a legit champ. But he has a nice resume of beaten opponents. Foreman, even past his prime, was one of the best heavyweights in the world. The man won the title AFTER he lost to Morrison.
But Morrison was not nice to Rocky, so he got AIDS.
And I don't consider Rocky Balboa to be a parallel to Foreman. The ORIGINAL script was going to be a Foreman-like story, but they changed that to what they did. Adrian was alive, and they were going to have Rocky fight so he could make money to keep his gym afloat.

Not exactly, since there was no logical reason to kill Rocky Balboa, and the movie has been out long enough that most people going to see it, have seen it. Hell, I already have it on DVD.

I actually liked it. I kind of got caught up in all the hoopla and was rooting for him by the time the fight started.

A blatant anti-Rocky thread over on Section39, prompted me to post the following, regarding the neo-hippy movement that seems to be gaining more and more steam:
Reading through this thread brings one, and only one thought/question to mind:
In this day and age of political correctness and a rising liberal tone sweeping the nation, why is it that you have to...
...listen to REM and Fugazi instead of AC/DC and The Stooges ...extol the virtues of indie political agenda flicks about gasoline and global warming and at the same time shit on fun movies like Rocky and Superman ...be IN college as opposed to not being in college (even if that means you've already graduated)
...in order to be an "intellectual?"

It's the whole "MOVIES FOR GUYS WHO LIKE MOVIES" concept.
Somehow, if you like Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger shoot-em-ups more than you like the latest Michael Moore offering....somehow if you listen to rock-n-roll music instead the latest faggy emo band that no one has heard and whose record you can only purchase in the basement of some record store in the Village....you're a HEATHEN, and Cro-Magnon dullard....looked down upon by the geniuses living on higher moral plane...like Michael Stipe and Moby!
Fucking pseudo-intellectual-hippy jaggoffs.
It's funny you know....the more rantings of young liberal college students I read (not only on Section 39, but on other internet sources as well) the more I understand the whole Archie-Bunker/Meathead relationship. I was Meathead once upon a time. I was an idealistic college student and I hung on every word that University spit out at me as gospel, walking around with the belief that I was so intellectually, morally, and spiritually superior than all of those old fogeys (which pretty much consisted of anyone not in college or already finished with college but weren't lucky enough to attend when I was attending when the REAL knowledge was being doled out...hahaha). Now I can totally see things from Archie Bunker aspect as well....as opposed to the young idealistic "intellectual" Meathead....Archie has forgotten more about life than the Meatheads of the world will ever know and reacts to life in more realistic ways. When I was young I thought I knew it all. Now, at 37, the greatest epiphany I've ever had, which has grounded me and made me a much more effective person at "life", was the realization that in the grand scheme of things I really don't know shit, and I'd better be open minded enough to not only DO but be thankful for the opportunity to absorb as much life as I can.
Wow, this was pretty heavy for a Rocky Balboa thread....the hippyism that shits on anything Americana just because it's Americana is annoying as fuck....and that's the elitist sense I get from reading certain people's posts on Section39 sometimes.

Meathead was an idiot too. When I was in college, I could recognize that professors were full of shit politically and didn't buy into it. I was a conservative then, and I am a conservative today, and proud on both counts.
I go to movies to be entertained, not to see some fat liberal fuck shove his opinions down my throat. He has a right to his opinion, but I have a right to mine and to choose to see a movie that is actually entertaining.
Let's not forget, Rocky Balboa ended the Cold War. He deserves his respect.

In part, Rocky showed the Russians the futility of their efforts against the US. They gave Drago every advantage possible, including the finest training, and of course, drugs. The man was more juiced up than Bonds, and likely they gave him drugs that would numb him. And Rocky, training under shit conditions in Siberia, kicked his ass, and even managed to win over the hearts and minds of the Russian people. Communism fell shortly thereafter.

I wonder if they will retroactively strip Rocky of his titles and have his title reigns removed from the record book due to his use of HGH....
