Well, this was not an epic never-to-be-forgotten moment, but it sure made me laugh last night, and spin the DVD back to watch the scene again.
It was during Fred's haitus "in St Louis" when Grady was running the house. Esther came barging in with a request to hold a church meeting, which Grady rebuffed on phantom Fred's orders. So they start to get into it.
Esther calls Grady a heathen and a Philistine, among other things. Here is the rest of the exchange.
GRADY - "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me."
ESTHER - "I will GET some sticks and stones, and break your bones. And my name is Esther, and I WILL hurt you."
GRADY - "I am not fond of striking a woman, but I will defend myself....and let the chips fall where they may."
ESTHER - "The chips may fall all upside your head!"
(they square off and start doing that pantomime boxing at one another until Lamont, as he always does, enters the room and breaks it up in disgust)
LOL @ "let the chips fall where they may!

So Grady and Esther squared off again last night. After Esther threatened bodily harm on Grady and called him a "hairy ape" he snapped, "I dont make a habit of striking a woman....but in your case, I will make an exception."
So they put up the dukes, and started weaving around until Lamont came out of the kitchen, ran over, and got in between.
What made me laugh even louder was after this was broken up and 2 of Esther's church-lady friends came in, the ladies were sitting on the couch ruminating, and Esther says, "its all his (Gradys) fault.....lets beat the Hell out of him!" and they all jump up and head for him, and Lamont has to hustle in to break it up.
