Here, I'll start off with a good one, for any of you interested in exploring the wonders the metal genre has to offer. www.metal-observer.com The highlight for many would be the mp3 files. Free for listen, and download. Many bands have samplers on there. Currently there are a whopping 4,546 free songs (or in some cases, parts of songs) uploaded in the mp3 section from random metal bands throughout each and every genre, and I am just randomly playing my way through the "A's" this morning at work. This is a great way to find some new bands, or just add some cool songs you may find to your Ipod or library. The site also has a heap of great reviews, nearly 500 metal interviews, band histories, wallpapers, and all other kinds of fanfaronade. Feel free to recommend other music-related sites here.

So my father in law, of all people, pointed me to this site tonight. This is a treasure trove. www.wolfgangsvault.com On this site over 300 full concerts are archived, going back through the late 60s and onward into the 80s. Shows from the Fillmore East, assorted venues like that, and your arena show here and there. Everything from Creedance, The Cars circa 1978, Allman Brothers, A Flock of Seagulls, Grateful Dead, Duran Duran, Clapton, Led Zeppelin (including a show from 69 I was listening to before), BB King....it goes on and on. The sound is great. You can save your favorite shows into a favorites area. I even found a classic metal concert, Accept circa "Balls to the Walls" era. All of this is FREE. There are other gems out and about on this site that I have yet to dip into. But I think a few of you guys will really get a kick out of this site.

Roommate who listens to garbage like Duran Duran: What the fuck is that?
Me: ACCEPT.
Roommate leaves, shaking head.

Listening to Metal Radio, on the Vibrations of Doom website. Every week another 2 hour show is put up, with about 20-30 songs from all the extreme genres. Lots of power metal, doom, thrash. He really mixes it up. Some very rare 80s out of print stuff, which can also be accessed from the main website. No commercials, very little chatter at all, and a good listen. Any real metal fan with extreme tastes should hop aboard. Here is the link, and this weeks playlist (which may mean little to most of you...) Whats really cool is I have this open up in Windows Media, and I can move ahead and back at whim, re-listening to songs I really like, or skipping out of songs that dont do it for me. vibrationsofdoom.com/doomradio/DoomRadio.html PLAYLIST FOR MARCH 11TH, 2007 (Debuting new stuff going in the classic albums archives VERY soon!)DISGUST 'Thrown Into Oblivion' from "Brutality Of War" INSOMNIUM 'Devoid Of Caring' from "Above The Weeping World" ROAD 'Scream Of Anger' from "Running Away" *** DATURA 'Euphoria' from "Visions For The Celestial" SNOG 'The Prole Song' from "Buy Me... Just ran across a random music video by a band called Daath. The song was "Subterfuge."
Made me think of an inside joke some friends and I had a while back. We wanted to start a joke band - a "death metal" band buying into all the stereotypes of that genre. The obvious one being the vocal style with that guttural sound. The other, maybe not so obvious - use some big word as either your band's name or song title - i.e. "SUBTERFUGE". And if you can work the name of a disease in there, even better (doesn't matter if it makes sense or not).
The name of our fictitious band was to be DYSENTERY INTENT!

Not bad. I always wanted to start a doom band just so I could call it DEATHBED SYMPHONY.

Of course, we'd have to give credit where credit is due and thank the bands "Amoebic Dysentery" and "Sadistic Intent" in our liner notes.

Check out this site I just stumbled upon, as referenced on a wrestling site of all places. Its a jukebox site, where you can click on a year, and basically select any of a score of songs from that year to play. Just pops up in a little window and streams along. Over 100 years of music, advertised as a quick click you can access to play while you are working on your computer. I am playing some doo-wop now, they have 159 songs to choose from in this section. I also went back to 1968, to check out what was blaring from those AM radios the year I was born, there were about 40 songs from that year. Hey, Balls, they even have 50 TV themes! www.tropicalglen.com/
