Holy fuckin crap. Anyone else see this? If you didnt, you missed it twice (first air Monday, there was a Thursday repeat this week) - just watched it on the DVR tonight, and I was floored.
It had sketchy reviews coming in, from complaints of gratuitous violence, to the fact that the 4 brothers at first appear too interchangable, and its confusing. Some people hated the narrarator, "Joey Ice Cream."
It was a fantastic debut to me. The way they wove music in and out, Shield-like, was great. The plot twists and violence were gripping. The show was dark.
Worth a ride, although it may not be around for long. In a very bad sign, they lost almost half hte audience halfway through the show. From tvsquad.com....
The premiere of The Black Donnellys, taking over the Monday at 10pm slot from Studio 60, started off well, with 10 million viewers, but then it seems a lot of viewers didn't like what they saw and the number of viewers in the second half hour dropped to 6 million (though I think the rating was better than what Studio 60 has been getting).

This show was a complete rip off Brotherhood on Showtime.
Tom, shoot me a line at dia102@gmail.com if you are interested in a copy of Brotherhood Season 1.

Never saw Brotherhood, but yeah, and heard of it nothing besides the name, but I could imagine this show is just a piece of this, and a piece of that. I guess that is why people like me end up impressed, we never caught what was ripped from.
But, in the grand scheme of things, isnt everything a rip off of everything else?
Jackass, email sent.

Wait. I'm in the middle of watching this pilot online. I'm 99 percent sure that they filmed something right on Davis St. in LIC. We have a warehouse there. I keep my car in it. That was kind of cool.

Not only did I confirm that the Black Donnellys is indeed filmed where I thought, but I learned today that in the 13th episode, they filmed a scene with someone driving out of our building, which we lent them. I was apparently told about this a long time ago and forgot. We even got paid.
The bar owned by the characters on the show is called The Shannon Pot.
That said, my gut tells me that this show is going to fail.

No way this show makes episode #13, which going off of the first episode would be a shame. If it doesnt make it that far, they should make you give them back their money.
In real-life that must be the shadiest of bars. My kind of place.

I've never actually been in there. I had the same reaction when I heard our building was used in episode 13. It's going to have some problems the next few weeks too, because Heroes will be going into reruns. They're not getting that money back. If anything, they should pay us more.
I wonder if my car will be seen when they pull out of our building. My guess is no because it is parked too far back.
I can see why they chose that spot too. It's a 2 way street, but a dead end. What was cool is that the area they showed around the bar was not the same neighborhood.

Missed the pilot, but saw episode 2 last night. Very hard to follow at first, but after a while, i got the story-line down. I actually liked it. However, I do think that this show will suffer an early demise. Shows like this should be on FX. They just don't seem to work on network television and it's a shame.
Hopefully I'm wrong, because I think this show has a chance to be really good.

I actually was bored with episode 2. At this point, I'm watching to get glimpses of the block I work, which of course I see daily.

So did I. Balls, once again you are an island to yourself. How you could be bored during episode 2 of this, yet enjoy episode 2 of "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader...." I mean, for crying out loud.
Great stuff here.

It was not all that interesting. It's all stuff we've seen done better in other TV or movies.

First two episodes will be spun back to back tomorrow (Sunday the 11th) at 4PM, on Bravo Network, for any of ya'll looking to jump on board, despite Balls' snarky remarks.

Have not seen it yet...its DVRd for viewing later in the week...
Check out this noise - saw in the USA TODAY Web Watch section this little blurb...there is an online only episode, deemed "too explosive for network tv." it can be accessed at nbc.com/the_black_donnellys
Dont know what that is all about, cept to get web traffic bumping.

Thanks, Jackass. I raise my glass to you. I really liked this last episode, but this show is not long for this world. A million people bailed from week 1 to 2, and the show took a staggering drop of nearly 75% from those who watched this last episode of Heroes. No one is watching. And this kind of serial drama is hard to pick up from the middle. I dont see this show lasting much longer, which is a shame, but they dont write TV for just the few of us on the board.

Week 13 was what I was told. There were some Davis Street scenes in this week's episode. I guess I'm going to have to find some time for the web episode. Now that you've seen it, we learn that in the web episode, somehow Jimmy gets out of jail.

Well, yeah, of course he does....in episode 3, he was out. No reason to think anything of it, people are bounced out of jail all the time.
Bottom line, is the web episode worth watching? I like the show a lot, but I am not a "web episode" sort of fellow.

I don't know if it's worth watching or not. I don't even know what it's about. I had heard it was a collection of scenes too edgy for network TV. But I've also heard it's a real episode, and is importantn for the ongoing storyline. It may be worth watching.
