I watched it with Rita also, but probably because she wanted to watch it more than I did. Still, I enjoyed it. Good show, but probably something I would have skipped if I were not with her.

I actually got hooked on it. But then, I was hooked on Days of Our Lives in college.
That said, drawing back on things that happened in Sex and the City actually saved me from a couple of arguments.
Women have their own rationale that really isn't always terribly rational. You don't need a show to tell you that. But watching it made me realize, wow...they actually believe that stuff. So, I go with it.
The tricky part is, it seems my girl is like a mix between a few of them. So are most women, as I've come to realize.

The reason why most (not all, as Dana has pointed out) women love Sex and the City is because each of the characters is a SUPER exaggeration of a component of our personalities, so we can relate to all of them at some point in time... or a conversation we have had with our girlfriends... or a guy we've been with...
I have a soft spot for trashy soaps and romance novels... I actually prefer the latter and watch higher quality TV and movies when I have more time for reading, but with the amount of reading I have to do for school, I don't have the time for recreational trash novels. My escapist TV is a necessary break from studying and work to shut off my brain.

Tudors was horrible. Just abismal. I watched the first six episodes (in HD mind you) and bailed. Not that I don't appreciate all of the hot naked chicks and the banging, but the story lines are just flat out boring.
I really tried to get into Dexter, but I just couldn't. Like Dana, I am all about Serial Killer lit, but for some reason (possibly because they spun the Serial Killer angle by "excusing" his behavior and having him kill only "bad people"), I just couldn't get interested. I bailed on that one after about five episodes.
Extras was without a doubt, one of the funniest shows on television. Ever. Grover, you are a fag for not contributing to the Extras Special Holiday Finale thread that I started. There were parts of the finale that aired last Sunday that were a complete riot (the scene with George Michael in the park talking with the other fruit about cruizing for dudes to blow in the mens room was hysterical), but overall, the finale was pretty pedestrian.
Tom, the Second Season of Brotherhood has finished (and again, Grover is a dick smoker for not contributing the the thread towards the end of the season) and it was only slightly less strong as season one, but I attribute that to the fact that you already knew all of the characters and weren't amazed that the show was coming up with good stories. I have all of Season Two on DVD (I burned from On Demand) if you are interested, Tom.
There is not much on broadcast television that strikes my fancy, and even less that gets time on my DVR. I recently watched the marathon of NIMROD NATION on Sundance. Great show.

I just got around to finally watching the last two episodes of Brotherhood, and I loved it. Rita didn't care for it as much but she just didn't get the implications.
I still have to watch Extras. Working at night has thrown me out of wack.

My favorite new show of the fall season was Journeyman. I DVR'd the 13th, and possibly final episode last night. It hasn't been officially given the ax, but the writer's strike, and the ratings, have all but killed it.

Balls, I swear I read the show was axed. It may have been made official when you were away. I remember laughing cause the news broke the day after I saw the star from the show on Red Eye doing his best to beg people to watch so it would NOT get cancelled.
Do your research, the show is over.

I haven't found anything that says it's officially canceled, though it does look like it's done. One of those things where now it's pulled, and it's only a matter of time. No more episodes in the can, and the writer's strike. I don't think there's an exec that believes in the show like with Friday Night Lights.
It's really a shame, since the show got better every week.

I liked that show better when it was called Quantum Leap.

Ha. It did start out that way, and I thought Quantum Leap was a better show, but the show got much better as the episodes went on. It's much less of a clone of it now.

Not officially. I poked around. The show is on hiatus. Of course, that's usually a bad sign.

Saying a show is on hiatus is like saying Grandma is up with the angels. Bye bye Journyman.

For the most part, that's true. Sometimes shows come back, but I'm not expecting it in this case. Being put on hiatus is like being put on death row and awaiting the chair.

Hey, Jackass and Dana, I'm into serial killer lit as well.
I highly recommend "The Scarlet Mansion" by Allan W. Eckert. It's one of many writings on Herman Mudgett (H.H. Holmes), America's first known serial killer, and it's widely regarded as the most accurate. It really is fascinating.

As you are no doubt aware, Justin, Mr. Holmes was the central character in The Devil In The White City.
I will pick up The Scarlett Mansion immediately and report back.
He was a real fucker.

I am sure Dana will speak on this herself, but she has crossed literary paths with Mr HH Holmes. She read and enjoyed The Devil In The White City, and its been recommended to me, and its on my voluminous list of books to read. I also taped a one hour doc on that books subject matter, with the same title, but we have not watched. Kind of waiting for me to read the tome.
Also, one of the Sherlock Holmes pastiches I read had a nod to Mr HH Holmes, with Sherlock butting his nose in and figuring out some pressing matter relating to such.

I too would like to read The Scarlett Mansion. I also want to read Thunderstruck by Erik Larsen (author of Devil in the White City) which is about Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen who was not a serial killer but still has an interesting story. Crippen by John Boyne was a pretty good fictionalized version of the Crippen murder. Perhaps the "twist" ending was a bit predictable but it was entertaining none the less.
I thought Dexter was a fast fun read. I could see how one would not like it though. For serial killer fiction I preferred Darkness, Take My Hand by Dennis Lehane (author of Mystic River).
p.s. Laura, the reason I don't like Sex in the City is because I CAN'T relate to it. I don't know anybody like those chicks. Like Grover, I'd rather watch wrestling.
