Anyone pick up anything new? I thought about posting in the what I DVR'd thread, since I watch nothing live & I'm never home during prime time anyway... but I figured the new fall season was worthy of it's own thread...
What I have tried so far:
Gossip Girl - watched the first 5 episodes this weekend, and I am hooked. This is The O.C. of this season... the writing and story lines are not as deep or enduring as 90210, but what do you want? Aaron Spelling is dead. Seriously, it is very light teenage chick-lit kind of fun with lots of eye candy. I don't see this show running more than 3-4 seasons because they are going to run out of places to go with it, just like our pretty friends from Newport, but it will be a fun little run. BTW, how is Kelly Rutherford looking younger than she did a few years ago?
Dirty Sexy Money- starting the 3rd episode now... THIS SHOW ROCKS!!! All star cast, witty writing infused with cynicism and satire... I think it is a little edgy for ABC and sadly, I see it going the way of Studio 60, which I was VERY upset about...
On the box: Back to You Big Shots Moonlight Private Practice Women's Murder Club

Gossip Girl is from the creator of the OC and apparently based on some book series. It's goofy, and even the two lead actresses look a bit like their OC counterparts. The writing is comically bad, though the show is entertaining. In short, I can take it or leave it, but for now, I'll take it. Besides, watching it gets people mad.
Journeyman--I like this show, but the ratings aren't very good, so I don't expect it to last. The first 3 episodes were very good. Yesterday, it was a notch below, but they did move forward in the mystery a bit. I hope the show lasts long enough to get there.
Bionic Woman-- I watched the first 2 1/2 episodes. The first episode was so-so. The second episode bored me, and when the 3rd episode also kind of sucked, I decided to drop it.
Pushing Daisies--same basic idea, except I dropped it in the middle of episode two. It had an Edward Scissorhands feel to it, and I didn't really like that movie either. It's a love it or hate it type of show, and I hated it.

I just realized we are not watching anything new. We are inundated with our regular stable of faves, including House, Heroes, Friday Night Lights, the savagely underrated Supernatural, Law and Order SVU.
I had DVRd weeks 1-3 of Journeyman, in particular out of Balls' recommendation, but it did not make the cut. We're backed up, so I deleted them last week and we'll pass. Rachel tried to swindle me into watching Dirty Sexy Money but I immediatly rebuffed that idea.
Nothing new looks halfway appealing. The closest to "new" is the wrapping up of Mad Men on AMC, which has been a decent ride.
As to your list, Laura, Moonlight may very well be axed by the time you read this. That show is up there with Caveman as the predicted first to get the axe, with the aforementioned Journeyman (which is losing a despicable 2/3 of its Hereos lead-in weekly also ripe for slashing)

I think Journeyman may be the only new show that stuck for me.

I'm looking foward to Scrubs. I love the early seasons then it just went overboard on ervery single joke. I know the show was all about being over the top, but for 22 fucking minutes? I can't wait for this season to start since it is the last one and dammit I want JD to get with Elliot.

The only new show I watch thsi season is Private Practice. I've been so busy with work that my DVR gets to around 90 percent before i have to start deleting things. this DVR/watching tv thing may not work out for me.
However, I still watch Supernatural. I think this is my favorite show on television.

My DVR has been between 85% - 95% for the last 6 months. Its a constant battle to watch enough shows to get around 90%.
Supernatural is an awesome show. Its right up there for both me and Dana. I am stunned a few people on this board missed the boat on this show. How guys around here could have watched stuff like Veronica Mars all these years, but never give Supernatural a chance....geez.

Balls, you just think that because the Supernatural's main characters are hot guys rather than hot chicks.

Update on the new shows...
Still watching Gossip Girl, which is cheesy fun, but definitely not a must watch.
Dirty Sexy Money is getting a little repetitive... started very strong, but I wonder if it is flash in the pan...
Big Shots - light, fun, I'll keep watching, but won't miss it if it goes away.
Moonlight - I LOVE IT!!! Very sexy, kind of like an updated Forever Knight, and actually different from most of the dreck on TV. This will be the show to get the ax, because this will be the one I'll miss.
Private Practice - Not as strong as ER or Chicago Hope, but I think the writing is a little better than Grey's Anatomy. I'm a sucker for medical dramas, so I'd keep watching, either way, but this is chickie drama-lite. The guy from Wings does bring some nice eye candy to the screen...
Women's Murder Club - If you like to watch Angie Harmon act like a badass or if you think Rob Estes is hot, watch away. The show is drivel and the is plot barely existent.
Back to You - Reminds me a bit of Just Shoot Me! (Shocking, seeing as they're both Steven Levitan vehicles... just like Wings and Frasier) Excellent writing with the same kind of laugh-out-loud humor of the other Levitan shows...

"Excellent writing with the same kind of laugh-out-loud humor of the other Levitan shows... "
When you ay same kind of humor you mean none right? My grandma watches that show and I've caught about 7 1/2 minutes worth of it. There isn't one funny aspect of Back to You. Wow, toung-in-cheek sex references, cutting edge comedy. I could care less about ABC, NBX, or CBS shows, they wouldn't know funny if they got smacked in the face with a bag of dicks. Back to You sucks, the peice of shit show.
Dexter is a show, no thread or discussion on that? What about Tudors coming up in 08? How do people still watch sitcoms? HBO and Showtime have the best shows period.

I don't have HBO or Showtime. Which sucks because Dexter and the Tudors are two shows I would have watched.
I borrowed one of the Dexter books from Christina and read it in a day or two. Good stuff. I'm a big reader of serial killer lit and while I tend to lean more toward true crime stories or fiction that is based on true crimes, I really enjoyed the Dexter book.
And Henry VIII is the man.

Laura, you sure watch some dumb stuff.
We'll grab Tudors on DVD when it comes out imminently.
I am going to rue not having HBO when the series based on that George RR Martin saga kicks up. I think Grover or my brother confirmed its still on, apparently.

Not out yet. January release, if I am correct. I have already earmarked it as certain "gift certificate spending" or "cash from the reps for the holidays" fodder for after-Christmas shopping.

The Tudors was boring. Very much a 'My chick wants to watch it so I'll watch it also' show. It also didn't help that it came on when Rome was on, and their attempts to be raunchy were rendered childish by anything Rome did. Now if there's a DVD set to get it's both seasons of Rome.

I was simply thrown off by Henry's lack of facial hair in the episodes we saw. I also knew enough of the tales to realize that anyone trying to watch without any sort of back knowledge would be as lost as a lamb.
Hey, Grover, am I wrong in that Laura watches a lot of bunk and hooey?

Yeah, but she's a woman and those shows are geared toward women, so I can't get on her that much.
The lack of facial hair on King Henry was one thing, him bing about 95lbs was another. I know he was supposedly handsome when he was younger, but I don't ever recall reading about him being that thin, especially by the way he became so fat.
Get Rome and Brotherhood on DVD. Better TV all around.

Jackass, bless the man, sent me the first season of Brotherhood on DVD a while back now. I still owe it a watch...if you saw the way my DVR is backlogged, and the list of "to-watch" discs on tap on the shelves, you would understand.....now that all our favorite shows are in haitus, we will break out that Brotherhood stuff, I swear it. And thanks for sending, Jackass.

If "Gossip Girl" is geared towards women, why is Balls watching it?
Balls is an avowed fan of "Gossip Girl."

I did watch an episode or two of the Tudors. I enjoyed it because I am a huge fan of the VIII. I have read so many books about him and the time that I know a lot of the politics and back story and minor characters and such. All of which I found entertaining. I did not get to see any of the episodes with Anne Boleyn in them which I would like to see because I'm a fan of hers as well.
I agree about the guy picked to play Henry. And Tom can attest to how I kept grumbling about during the couple of episodes we watched. You are correct. Even before he was fat he was never thin. He was very tall and athletic in his youth. Plus the hair was all wrong. Everyone knows Henry was a redhead.

Sex and the City was geared toward women, and I've seen every episode.
Anyway, hopped on the debut of the week-long game show "Duel" last night. Very good. Continues tonight on ABC.

Sure, geared toward women isn't a reason to not like a show, because Justin brought up a decent example in Sex and the City. Even though that's a bit different because it followed the sexual escapades of four women, two of them who were attractive.
Gossip Girl and Dirty, Sexy, Money aren't even worth watching. You could tell both were entering areas already covered before.
Oh, and T, I suggest you eventually pick up both seasons of 'Extras' when they come out, if you're a fan of British humor and The Office.

Justin, the "ATM Technician" from Westbury was a coworker of mine at the Mobile for a few years. We got along pretty well, and Dana and I actually went to see him and his band play a couple of times around the local area. He was a nice enough fellow. I was going to give a shout-out that a past crony of mine was rocking the game-show circuit last night, but I did not think anyone gave a flip about the show.
I actually DVRd the show. Did not watch his long opening appearance (and crushing loss) - I just doublechecked before bed that he was indeed on, and FF to see his result. I will watch and put to tape later on.
I work with celebs - first the guy Zach from "Average Joe" and then "Marco the ATM Tech" from the hood.

Grover - I didn't watch for the sex life of hot chicks, believe it or not. I actually watched almost every show with my girl, and it gave me a bit different perspective on her and women in general.
And Marco talked the talk, but he went down in flames. Couldn't back it up. Good for him for getting on, though.
