it also seemed like a colossal waste of money to rent a tuxedo (since i certainly would never wear my own to the bleachers) just to take it off when i realize how stupid it is to wear a suit to a ballgame in July.
Mission accomplished though. If getting your face in the paper was the goal...i guess it was worth it.
Thats all the show is about these days.
Again, the joke was on them, wearing tuxes to a muggy nights game and not having any idea the night would drag on past 2AM.

The paper was nice, but the humor was what it was all about. I realize you don't get it, but so what? Calling something stupid is just more haterade. It means nothing to me.
And it wasn't even that hot. It wasn't as good as shorts and a t-shirt, but it was not a muggy night, it was not 90 degrees, and I was fine. Those who don't do, like to shit on things. It won't detract from the fun time I had, and I think the others felt similarly.

Hey, Balls, way to dedicate the top of the board to me! Oh, wait, you didnt. Although I did it for you, on your birthday. Guess it was too important to put a baseball related Presidential pic up there!
For crying out loud, you didnt even put me in the footer!
Sigh.

Actually Tom, I was going to put you back on the bottom in a week anyway. I was waiting for you to get back on AIM next week for discussions on the next theme idea. Not my fault you have 19308 vacation days this year

Folks, after running vintage baseball for a couple of months, we're going to be going herky-jerky back at the top again. But at the same time we are going to try and keep it not too busy, or even outlandish.
For absolutely no reason, I am going with dinosaurs this week. Balls jumped in and added a dino shot in the Entertainment section. There is no rhyme or reason behind the theme, but this is Hecklehouse and we're unpredictable. So you really dont know what you are going to get up there, so keep tuning in.

Good choice on Triceratops. That was my favorite dinosaur as a kid. I always rooted for him in all of those Triceratops vs Tyrannosaurus pictures.

I had a book as a kid in which Triceratops WON!
Actually he didn't win...he proved to pesky for T-Rex, causing him to move on to easier prey.

Well, lets not lose sight of the fact of what mascots are geared to. The kids. They are not meant for folks like me and you. So yeah, he looks like an ass. But as long as the kids laugh, fine. I bet the kids laughed. But the adults threw stuff at him. So he was gone.
When talking about mascots, its hard to keep a discerning eye.

I loved the ESPN commercial with Mr. Mutt where Dan Patrick (?) said Mrs. Mutt was cheating. I also got a kick out of Pete Rose dressed as the San Diego Chicken at Wrestlemania.

I wish I could find a good picture of the Chicken in the WWE ring. I had to improvise for this weekend is the Heckle House Tribute to the Famous Chicken!

Question - at what point did THE CHICKEN lose his affiliation with the Padres and become a global ambassador for all of baseball?
Did he always go by the "San Diego Chicken" moniker, or did he eventually become just "The Chicken?"

I think he got at odds with San Diego, as he wanted to take the act on the road. From all accounts the guy in the suit is a prick.
I dont even think the San Diego stint was as long as people seem to think it was, but I may be wrong. Oddly, when we were in San Diego in late 2003, the night before we went to a Padres / Dodgers game the Padres had a Welcome Back the Chicken night. It was the talk of the town, and I am not joking. You would have thought the Lord was visiting the park.
I remember some of the people on hand were not happy with the Chickens antics that night, as he was quite the distraction. Thankfully we were not there until the next evening.

I just like calling it "the famous chicken" kinda like the famous purple dinosaur you can win at the boardwalk.
Cho, you are our feet on the street if you will in SC, you shouldn't be asking us. Go and take a camera crew out like Jay Leno does and ask the masses out there.

Looking at the pictures, The Chicken bares a family resemblance to Big Bird. Was Big Bird a chicken?
I seem to recall him being referred to as a canary at some point.

Big Bird was certainly not a chicken. If he was, they would call him Big Chicken.
I too recall him being described as a canary. He had canary habits, not chicken habits. Did you ever hear him cluck?

Big Bird is indeed a canary and bears little resemblance to the san diego chicken other than that they are big yellow birds.
When we were in san diego it was the last year in qualcom and there was a big to-do about the chicken the night we went to the padres game and they kept showing the chicken on tv all night. Quite annoying.

Cho had better straighten out this mess that he created. Get down to San Diego, go to Robertos and then to the park.

I have been to Petco three times since it's opening. I have yet to see a Chicken sighting. The Friar, however, is always around. Maybe HE muscled the chicken out of town. Maybe THAT is why the chicken is a bitter prick. Now, while I too seem to recall Big Bird being a canary, I disagree that he bares no resemblance to The Chicken. Look at those beaks...almost identical other than that Bird's is long. (I wonder if The Chicken has beak envy). Also Tom, I have never heard The Chicken "cluck" either....or is your point that he is a mute, and therefore doesn't count?

Wow. I think that may be the worst top of the board pic ever. That picture just has a look that says, "will you please punch me in the face?"

Hey, thats Bob Buchmann. He was doing the "Q of the D" on WBAB in the 80s. He is broadcasting live from Billy Joel's house right now. Show him some respect!
Oh, you're right about the pic by the way.

He's like 50 years old. He has always had this laid back somber tone.
But thats him.
