Maybe hes out celebrating Ramadan or Rodan or whatever it is they party to.
When someone has my spot on the platform (I have the same preferences as you, Balls) I crowd them. Once a burly surly guy like me crowds a person, they tend to find another spot to stand.

I have a seat in my AA meetings that I am fond of. I always sit there. EVERYONE KNOWS I always sit there. Every so often some newbie douche, in AA on a court card who could really give a shit about staying sober, nabs my seat.
Sometimes, it's customary to lay a set of keys or a business card on a seat in AA meetings as a place holder. If someone holds my seat in this manner, I'll move their marker to another chair.
I also have a HUGE pet peeve in public restrooms. One stall used at a time. The other stalls are just there for show and as space buffers. We have two restrooms here at work, both with 2 stalls each. Nothing INFURIATES me more than if I have a stall and some douche comes and sits in the one next to me. At that point, all my bathroom related activity goes on lockdown, I pull out the blackberry and start emailing, texting, surfing the web until my asshole neighbor leaves.

So, beginning New Years Day at 9am, DirecTV can been giving us a daily electronic "courtesy call" to notify us that our billing is being seperated from Verizon due to some screw up. The call has been coming progressively earlier each day, so that this morning if came in before 7am... absolutely lovely on a morning that you are not feelign well & decide to take the day off to sleep in...
FiOS has been available in our neighborhood since the early fall & we wanted it, but we had a contract with DirecTV for another year. THESE CALLS were what made me decide to buy out of the contract and switch to FiOS immediately, rather than doing so after the contract ends.

I'm not super angry about this but think that it's a tad messed up.
I interviewed for a job and the company took the liberty of writing a job description based on my cover letter (which provides a pretty decent overview of my capabilities). I thought the interview went well and I got called for a second interview. For the second interview, I had to take a personality assessment and some other tests for additional screening. As luck would have it, somebody else got the job.
Part of the rejection e-mail included the following:

For something like the 4th or 5th year in a row, I'm going to have to change our company's health plan. It seems that every year, one company has a decent deal, while all the others jack up the prices. This year, the company we are using is raising premiums 34.73 percent.
That is not a typo.
God help us when Obama completely fucks us over.

Bend over.

It's NOT a cadillac plan. That's the worst part. It's not even that great of a plan. And the taxation of cadillac plans is one of the dumbest ideas out there.
The stupidity is that because of the constant rise in healthcare from year to year, and the lack of a provision to adjust for inflation in the bill at the same rate, almost every plan will be a cadillac plan.
In an effort make healthcare better, they are punishing people who have healthcare.
Fucking socialists.

I didn't notice that.
Everyone is going to have a cadillac plan. And if anyone believes that only the so called rich will be paying for this--they're on crack.

Starting this year I need to shell out another $100 a month to keep my wife on my plan, along with Emma. If the company had their preference, Dana would get insurance from her own employer, which is even more than that $100. To be honest? I cant complain too much. Our healthplan is kickass, and very fair. And we are set up to handle that increase. But across the board such things are rotten.

That's probably a significant increase. And yeah, any company would rather keep to a single plan.

My firm goes through the insurance thing every year. Fortunately, we have an extensive number of choices. The plan that I had had a $300/month increase so I chose a plan that was comparable in terms of monthly premiums that I was paying at the time. The differences between the plan was a $10 increase in co-pay and a $500 hospital deductible (vs. $0 on old plan).

If a company does their share of shopping around, and there are brokers out there that do just that, there's usually one plan per year that manages to stay close in rates.
It sucks when you have to give shit up to keep the costs down. But that's why Obama's plan is so scary. Ultimately, any government run health insurance will be cheaper, but it will be run like shit. More and more plans will qualify as cadillac plans, and Obama will tax them out of business.
Fucking socialist pricks.

The problem with the "Cadillac" plan is the definition. It is a function of cost, not the benefits. For example, a plan that covers boob jobs should be viewed as Cadillac. Factors other than benefits impact cost- location (and we are in a high cost area) and average age and health of those in your plan are big drivers of cost.

That's what all government laws are like. It's kind of like the Internal Revenue Code doesn't factor in cost of living. The government would say, "well, move to a cheaper area."
This really is a disaster.

The solution to the "healthcare crisis" is really quite simple, but all the idiots, socialists and guilty successful liberals and making a big mess in an effort to fight capitalism and punish those of us who work for a living.
#1 - The government needs to stop downsizing. While small government is good, increasing the ranks of the unemployed and uninsured is bad. If NJ & NY keep cutting state jobs they will DECREASE the tax base needed to ease the state fiscal crises & create more people who need to take money OUT of the system via unemployment insurance, pensions, GA, TANF, Medicaid and other entitlements.
#2 - Stop allowing hospitals to close. This is the same issue as #1. The hospitals being closed are NOT being closed because the services they provide are not necessary, they are being closed because they are not bringing in enough money. The hospitals need to expand preventative care services with govenment funding.
#3 - People need to understand that something beyond castastrophic healthcare coverage and means-based sliding scale clinic care is NOT a right. If you want to see a private doctor, you need to get a job and earn one of the "Cadillac" plans.
#4 - Hospital ERs DO NOT turn away ANYONE, regardless of their ability to pay. Crying about all the unisured and undersinsured is a line of crap. Cry for the hospitals who don't get paid and are at risk for closing.
#5 - This really is a disaster.

Ultimately, employers will drop these plans in favor of a cheaper option, and screw their employees over like Obama is screwing everyone else over. This will contribute to putting insurance companies out of business, forcing people to deal with this socialist government's takeover of this industry.
That salary issue is a fair point. At some point, health care may be so expensive that employers may decide that people should get their own coverage, and increase salaries by a certain amount to offset their employees' expense, which would indeed be taxable, and indeed be an increase in taxes on the poor.
It's interesting that the AFL/CIO, a democrat shill, is opposing the excise tax. Of course, given they are what they are, I'm sure they'll endorse Obama in 2012.

Great job by the city with this plowing. 2 days after the snow storm, and the street where I work is not only unplowed, but there is a bus parked smack in the middle, which will make plowing a lot tougher. A CITY bus. Who's the genius that decided it was ok to park a city bus on that block, which by the way, DOES NOT HAVE A BUS ROUTE?
To make things better, a cab was parked on the other end.
