Watching other stuff tonight, but pic in pic'd it, and got to see Jeter tie. Congrats, God bless. I called it back in his rookie year!
Check it out, Im going to be around for potential history on Friday. Sigh, got to go in for first pitch, grumble grumble.

I agree with Balls, I hear they are calling for rain. You don't need to be there for first pitch, but at a minimum, the 4th pitch.

The end of his next contract may be very ugly, especially in the field.

I think they are certainly going to be well aware that he won't finish his next contract as an SS. First step is to not sign Matsui and use the DH spot to rest some of these 30 somethings.
And I do think a 4-5 year $100 million contract is coming.
If they're smart, and historically, they aren't, they will negotiate the extension this offseason. But they aren't that bright, and will cost themselves millions by waiting until the last minute.

It's crazy to me I've seen him from day 1 and this is where he's at now, it's amazing to me for some reason. He'll be the first Yank to get 3000 hits in the uniform(I know Boggs did but he did it in Tampa Bay), and if he's healthy maybe 3500 or possibly 4000. Especially if he goes in the DH spot down the road and can stay healthy, his bat will always be good. As long as the speed is still there you have to have him in the lineup in some way or other.
But congrats indeed, a classier guy couldn't couldn't have broken the record and no one deserves all the personal accolades as much as Jeter.

Open up the vault for Jeter after his contract is up.
Better start accepting that fact now, Bittermans....it's gonna happen.
Jeter is the man....as SS, DH, or wherever.
BTW, his defense has improved some this season.

I do think he deserves a renewed deal, though I hope they aren't dumb enough to repeat the ARod mistake. Two wrongs don't make a right. Not saying Jeter can't play as long--it may be possible, but that doesn't mean they should commit the time.

Will you guys PLEASE stop with the Jeter for 4000 hits shit? The guy says himself NO WAY he sticks around that long. He wants to play a few more and get out, and enjoy his millions.
I have to laugh at how far we are taking all these accolades, when the guy just passed ROBBIE FRIGGIN ALOMAR in hit totals. He is a fantastic batsman, but lets not make it out that this guy is the best hitter of all-time, cause he is far from that.
Hell, Ichiro Suzuki is a better hitter the past decade than Jeter is.
I hate to remind you that 30 teams have an "all-time team hit leader." While Yankee baseball is stuff of legend, baseball does not start and end in NY alone.
4000 hits my ass.
And, sorry, I dont want a slap-hitter DH in 4 years.

Jeter deserves all the accolades. I know every other team in MLB has a hits leader category, but c'mon to be at the top of The Yankees list is very impressive. I've always been a Jeter guy, he's my favorite Yankee, I'm 34 and grew up with Mattingly! If you watch sports now a days where victim to watching such stars as Kobe, Barry and all these other "chest bumping" fist pumping, swagger asses; Jeter is so classy! He quite possibly be classier than he is great! Congrats to the Captain, give him a 4 year deal for $20 mil per and just make sure he never dons another uni again!!

We talked about this in person last week Tom.
I think any one who reasonably understands the game will agree that the Jeter-surpassing-Rose talks can end now.
Ain't gonna happen. The guy would need another 6 or so 200+ hit seasons and he's already said he's not playing through his mid 40s.
Moot point.
3000 hits easily....3500 probably, 4000 hell no.

His mid-40s, Cho? He wont play beyond 40.
And, again, he is not even the best hitter in the game today, Ichiro is better. Stop acting like Jeter is the definition of hits.

That's what I'm saying...Jeter's already put the kibosh on any idea of playing into his 40s.
I don't think anyone is acting like Jeter is Ty Cobb....but he's a great player, great hitter.
The SCARY thing is.....what if Ichiro had played in MLB since he was 21, 22?
The guy MIGHT have 5000 hits by the time it's all said and done.
What was Ichiro like in Japan...I mean, did he dominate the Japanese hitting scene the way he dominates here?

In his nine seasons in Japan, Ichiro had 1,278 hits, a .353 career batting average, and won seven Gold Glove Awards.

Obviously, the Japanese numbers don't count because the level isn't as high. How many scrubs here go over there and hit 50 HR?
But Ichiro is someone I believe would have done the same numbers over here as he did over there. Kind of a no brainer, since that's what he did. It's a shame that he DIDN'T start here.

the amazing thing is, in about 9 seasons HERE, he has almost 800 more hits than he did in Japan.
He would most likely already have had well over 3000 hits if he had started his rookie year here.

Easily. He would have been a legit threat to Rose's record.

I think he would have been almost a lock to break Rose's record.

Ichiro is one of the best pure hitters ever, but saying he's better than Rose is a bit much. Rose played until he was 45, played something like 6 different positions, won 3 batting titles, won 3 batting titles, and didn't have a lively ball and diluted pitching caused by having 30 teams in the league. The man hit .335 in 1968 when the pitching was so good, only one person in the AMERICAN League hit over .300 (Yaz hit .301) and they had to change the rules.
It's a hitter's game today. It was more of a pitcher's game in Rose's day--at least in the early years.

Ichiro is not a HR hitter...lively ball argument doesn't mean much.

The ball still jumps off his bat more. Even for singles hitters, it helps. But that said, you can't deny the diluted pitching argument, and the fact that in the 1960s, it was a pitcher's game--especially 1968.
Again, Ichiro is unbelievable, but to say he's better than Rose just isn't right. That doesn't mean there aren't some things he did better than Rose. There are. While I can't say for certain, I doubt when Rose was in the outfield, he had a better arm than Ichiro, and I highly doubt Rose was faster. But Rose is still arguably the best singles hitter ever.

Explains why Derek Jeter gets so many hits, also explains why he grounds into so many DPs.
In 2009, Derek Jeter flied out to the an infielder ONE time.
