I understsnd why it's done too, I just hate how no one cares until something does happen but turn the other cheek to another part of the country while still saying you love america. Americans love themselves, it's always how something effects tem, and if nothing effects them, why care contribute or try to help? These people with money and 9/11 shirts on should do more to make sure somethign egts done with the money thats been sent to the gulf coast.

Well in all fairness...I'm not a big fan of welfare but I'd have no problem with the government helping people to rebuild after a tragedy (of any kind, hurricane, terrorists, whatever). That being said...obviously government help takes longer than private help. The WTC has both.
And what people like James seem to forget is that the fires in lower Manhattan kept burning for what, months after 9/11? Not to mention the tremendous amount of volunteer work that went into cleaning the place up. Local New Yorkers pitched-in to make the process move faster. If the inhabitants of New Orleans don't do the same...well what can I tell you.
James - what did YOU do before 9/11 happened to prevent it or raise awareness or whatever?

What did anyone do? Give me a break, I did the same as anyone else. You're missing my entire point. I didn't forget anything man, my uncle works for the FEMA housing projects, goes house to house talking t people and surveying the damage. Trust me I'm not just throwing shit out there. It's the same for someone who never donated to cancer research their entire lives, then all of the sudden someone get ass cancer and then start going to rallies. My gripe is the falseness going into patriotism, not prevention. What could I do to prevent a terrioist attack? Should I have flown to hang out with Osama and be like "Please dude, don't blow up the WTC"?

No James, you could have supported policies that target Islamic extremism. Or at least do that now that you know that it exists. Some of us knew about this problem long before 2001 or 1998 or 1993...But this is neither here nor there...we can talk about that stuff in the Political Banter thread.
Just don't say that everyone woke up after it was too late. And a MAJOR difference in cleanup efforts in New Orleans VS New York is the local population's desire/ability to get involved. It's not like big bad George Bush is stopping people from cleaning up the Gulf Coast.

I never said everyone woke up afterwards, but think how many flags and usa shirts you saw before 9/11 compared to afterwards. And when it first happeend I knew it was that animalistic fucking religion, we didn't know who specifially but we had an idea.
To me, the way people got all up in arms if someone detracted Bush after 9/11, if anyone said anything bad about him it was unamerican. Before then, eh bash him all you want until theres a national disatser, is fucking sickening and shows the two sided nature of every signle fucking person walking this country. The two faced, back handed know it alls, who had to lead the charge and stand on the front line for Bush. All of the sudden the grey area was gone and everything was either black or white. Before 9/11, if you bashed healthcare, the school systems, taxes, anything revolving around this country, that was fine. But afterwards, oh no, nothings wrong with this country, we're perfect and now we're pissed. You knew there was going to be something right arounc when it happened. This countries foreign policies and treatemnt towdrs other countries was a direct result of 9/11. I feel bad for what happened, and ii feel for the fmailies, but this will be my most offensive saying, we fucking deserved it. It was just a matter of time of who did and when. I'm not saying it's right, and I'm not defending those missle eastern animals, but maybe if the US stopped being a bully this wouldn't be a topic. Hindsight is 20/20 though and i'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but there was a lot more awareness in this country after 9/11.

No I do it too just not in this instance. Everyone does in life, I beleive we all contradict ourselves. But it's one thing to do it so blatantly and unashamed.

... and there's lots more Yankee shirts/hats/jerseys seen on the streets and more asses in the seats at the stadium after the team wins a few world championships... the vast majority of people are moronic lemings... followers... they don't do ANYTHING because they really thought about it or really feel it.
This group-think herd mentality is a common thread amongst humanity, creating the "false patriotism" you so despise, as well as the fanatical fundamentalist muslim extremist culture in places like Afganistan.
As for the Bush-bashing, a high percentage of the population has ALWAYS had a problem with that, either because they are Bush supporters or out of respect for the leader of our country and the office itself. Being a member of both the former AND the latter, I did not bash or support bashing the previous administration, either.
There is a difference between striving for social change and pointing out deficeits in the current systems and policies [which I support as free thinking and free expression,] and blindly, ignorantly expressing derision and scorn towards the leader of the free world. It IS absolutely your right as an American to voice opposition to the party of power or any elected officials, but to completely and publically speak of them with nothing but venomous words and mocking IS unpatriotic and unAmerican, which you are free to be BECAUSE of the support for our way of government.
As for the US being a bully... take it to the political fight thread. This is not the proper forum for addressing such rhetoric, nor do I want to get into it with someone who has not studied government, world politics or international relations at a minimum of an undergraduate level, so basically, someone else can field this topic elsewhere.

You guys really get a burr in the britches for the stupidest things. Why someone would bother to get rankled over someone plugging a little flag on their lawn the week after 9/11, which I see as RALLYING BEHIND THEIR COUNTRY is beyond me. What is wrong with people "joining the herd" and teaming up with others to show pride in their country, strength in their numbers, and support for those who are doing what they cant, like point a gun at the enemy?
Besides, give me a flag on the property over a flamingo or a gnome anytime.
You guys waste your time bitching about stupid things.

Oh my GOD. To kind of defend Discovery, I know from working in the industry that ads on the Internet are shuffled randomly, but oh my GOD. That is horrible timing.

This is the prayer my father put together, and which was read by my sister Jackie during the touching 9/11 memorial dedication at the Wyandanch Fire House Monday night.
Let us pray,
We ask thy blessing upon this piece of steel. It has been made hallow with the blood of innocent civilians who were the victims of the terrorist attacks upon this nation. Let us never forget their loss. We are not a vengeful country but we pray that those who committed this cowardly act be brought to justice. May this monument be a reminder to all who see it of the loss, not only of those who lost their lives in the world trade center but also all of those who lost their lives on flight 93 in Pennsylvania and those who perished at the Pentagon. We must never forget the need to fight and bring to justice those who committed this act, because they will not give up the fight to destroy our way of life. God Bless this nation and those who are serving to protect our country and to aid us in our defense of freedom.
Amen
