Never was a fan of the checkers, but I believe I did have a pair at one point...I also remember the old Hawaiian print slip-ons and the two-tone (dark blue/light blue, brown/tan).
But here in 2007, you see Chris walking down the street you can expect to see a guy pushing 40, who's had the same hair cut more or less since 8th grade, wearing the same requisite 501s, Vans, and some sort of Mr. Zogs Sex Wax or Rip Curl t-shirt that I was wearing 20 years ago...only difference now is that I don't write Circle Jerks in Sharpie on my Vans and I don't purposely cut the knees on my Levis. I wear this gray mock turtle neck with thin white horizontal pinstripes with a big-ass SEX WAX logo on the back that my wife shits all over me for...telling me that the 80s are over.

I too have worn Vans since sometime in the '70's when they were known as Van Dorens Deck Shoes.
Slip on's were your social shoes (school, parties, movies, etc...) and lace ups were for the deck of your skate board. I must have twenty pairs in various stages of decay in my closet. I am presently wearing a pair of gray, un-padded, slip ons
Greatest shoes ever made. I believe that Domi has a pair of special issue Descendents Vans. Lucky fuck. They were like a bar mitzvah gift or some sort of other jewey holiday thing that I normally wouldn't denegrate in that way if I wasn't jealous.
2 interesting (or not, and if so, fuck you) Vans stories:
1) First time I ever made an appearance in the bleachers, I met up with Capone, Baloo, Tom, and 41 in Yancy Park. The only dudes I really knew are Capone and Baloo. I come walking up, with my two tone red and gray slip on Vans, and 41 says, "Hey, 1981 called. They want their shoes back."
2) At a Trashers game in Danbury, I was wearing a brand new pair of blue and gray two tone slip ons when Larua says, "Did you just come from bowling?" or something to that effect.
Cho, stop acting like you are the only person sporting those threads. Virtually everyone that grew up out there wears that uniform.

Are you shittin' me Jackass. All the kids nowadays wear the new big chunky hi-tech skate shoes, Vans or otherwise....and the Dickies 5 sizes to big and the Zoo York or whateverthefuck hoodies. These kids don't know what's up. And most of the old fucks like me and you have moved on to Dockers and Steve Maddens.
I've seen a whole shitload of the Band Vans at the stores, so I'm not exactly sure that Domi's kicks are all that unique, but maybe. Iron Maiden, Circle Jerks, and Social Distortion vans are readily available at the stores. Something about that just doesn't strike me as being as "cool" as tagging up your own shoes. One of my favorite pairs of Vans I had as a teen had the phrase "Reagan Hates Me" with a swastika, written in Sharpie on the toe area...matched a t-shirt I owned with same slogan, although that one was purchased at Retail Slut or maybe it was Zac Attack (ring a bell Jackass) as opposed to homemade.

This is funny...this is exactly what my closet consists of.

*I* made a bowling comment about Vans? That's odd. My brothers have always worn them, and my youngest brother actually got a pair of black ones for Christmas this year...

Oh, and on the topic of the Brown Family Secret Santa, I was overjoyed to get TJ this year... IMO, TJ is far and away the easiest person in the family to buy for because he has so many interests and he talks about them!
I think the whole thing is fixed, though.

And even though this is the XMAS Loot thread, please to remember this extremely sweeeeeet pair of Vans that I was given for Father's Day. Customized by my daughter Amy, and her boyfriend (whom gets my seal of approval for this if nothiong else): Cho, I meant it was the uniform of people "our" age. You are not the only person with threads like that. Belay all that talk about Zoggs, Sex Wax, Dewey Weber, Local Motion, etc... Makes me all nostalgic. And yes, Larua, it was you. It was one of the funniest things you ever said to me. I remember it well.

Aquadots were recalled for that reason. It was supposedly one tainted batch but they are cracking down on this whole toy recall thing so they are no longer sold. What happened was a 20 month "got into his older sister's set and ingested them." Emma is almost 5. She is not going to eat them. I also would not expose her friends or any of my nieces, nephews, etc. to any danger. Em played with them today with my mother (who will also not eat them.) I believe in adult supervision in this case. If she is using them in the company of a responsible adult and washes her hands afterward there is no danger. If I felt there were she wouldn't have them. I am very protective of my kid.

It is totally fixed. I had the same person 4 years in a row.
I think Dave is the easiset with Jennifer a close second.
And Laura, thanks for not mentioning how I allegedly beat Emma's Barbie dog to death. Ha ha!

OK, I gotta know how this puppy works. It grows into an adult dog, and then can regress back to a puppy???

|
|
Post by Ms. Jericho on Dec 27, 2007 10:36:45 GMT -5
Yep. It grows over the course of four days. Emma's is growing very rapidly because she keeps "feeding" the damn thing. It's legs and neck get longer and so does the body. There is a reset button on the bottom (the kind you have to stick a pin in) that turns it back into a puppy so you can start all over.
Emma has the golden retriever. It is also avaible in poodle.

I can count on the clothing thing every year too. Kind of sucks, because I have favorite types of dress shirts, pants etc. and I always get some other brand that I don't care for and end up having to return them. (Usually to a place other than where I tend to shop...)

You know, come to think of it, I did pretty good from the reps I cross paths with here. Got a couple of hundred dollars cash, some hard booze, and one of them just handed me a docking station for my MP3 player. I had been pricing them, and similar ones were around $75-100. I think he is regifting this one, but I could care less what he is doing in that regard.
I'm rocking it now. It works on batteries, but it appears i can grab myself a DC adapter so I dont burn through those so frantically, or need to worry about constant recharging. This thing is portable, so i can carry from office to office. Whoo hoo!

I had a nice haul this year. 2.5 gig MP3 player, digital picture frame, vintage Gretzky jersey (oilers away) and nice Yankees spring jacket and a game for the wii.
I was very surprized by the MP3 - I didn't think my dad had any idea what they were.

Yeah, thats a cool mother lode there. Go Dad! It was my brother Dan who introduced me to the wonders of the mp3 player a couple of years ago. Now I am kicking the full 60 GBs, they are addicting.
Cashed in my share of a Best Buy gift certificate purchased by my folks for Dana and I - completed my Reno 911 collection by grabbing seasons 3 and 4. I also added in the complete series of the vintage Aquaman cartoon, which Emma is pining to watch with me. We want to see Aquaman battle The Queen of the Mermen, and other nefarious sorts.

That is quite the lovely tv Andy. Is Juliet able to play with the Wii? This girl that I work with bought one for her son who is three (he wanted it just so he can play Smackdown Vs. Raw- big wrestling fan). I was impressed that at three he has the coordination to play.
