Just cause the match is back does not mean it had not been PULLED, that happened. Its also probably a red herring. I read in the Observer Vince is terribly dissapointed in where they ended up, and that prompted Mondays hot angle.
I have not read this, but I see Flair getting the match after all. One key part of the angle was Jericho stomping "the watch." Thats the Rolex HBK "gave Flair" for giving him the honor of that last match.

Tom I was never disputing that it was pulled..Just letting you know it is back.....
I would much rather see Flair then the 3 legends though it does "soil" the retirement a bit....

Wrestling and boxing are famous for "retirements" that are anything but.
On another note, it really annoys me that they keep referring to this year's Wrestlemania as the 25th anniversary. It is Wrestlemania 25, which would make it the 24th anniversary of the first one. I find it aggrevating.

I'm with you on that. WM1 was 24 years ago today, on March 31, 1985.

No thoughts yet?
Due to traffic, I was unable to get to the party I was going to and didn't watch WM, but I got the results.
Of the matches I cared about, the results were predictable, but right on the money.
The best buildup was definitely HHH/Orton. It was an outstanding job by both men. Orton was brilliant in how he got that heat. But there was no chance that HHH would lose that match, and that has nothing to do with a refusal to job. From a plot standpoint, the face HAS to win a match like that. Orton may strike back if they want the feud to continue, but that match was true to expectations.
I think that the Cena/Show/Edge match also had a predictable result, though I felt the buildup and decision to do that match was a disaster. That's a match you could see on any Raw or Smackdown with no real specialness to it. Big Show is a solid performer, but should not be co-main eventing WM. Edge/Cena would have been a decent match, if they could have done something to get the heat going better. It would have been hard to match the HHH/Orton heat, but Cena and Edge certainly had the talent to do it, and they would have needed to come up with an alternate angle to make the feud just as personal.
I'm sure the money in the bank match was very good, but I really didn't care about it. I won't knock it, and it's a decent tradition, but not one I cared about.
I couldn't care less about the JBL/Mysterio, Hardy v. Hardy, or the 25 woman battle royale. I would guess James is pissed about the JBL/Mysterio match. I think anyone who respects that belt would be. 21 seconds?
The woman's match was a waste of space, just like anything involving women wrestlers. Shut up and strip. I'm sure the whole Santina Morella thing was funny though, but I'm glad Richter wasn't involved.
Glad they unified the tag belts, though I wonder what they will do next.
As for the legends match--it didn't go how I wanted it, and I heard from Tom that it was a disaster. It was a terrible angle for Jericho and I felt bad for him. Hopefully he'll move on to something new.
I guess that's it except for discussing the continuation of the streak. I don't know if that was a good or bad match, though I have to assume it was a good one. The result was perfect though. I really don't think anyone is worthy of ending UT's streak. That streak should be his gift from McMahon for all the years of service and loyalty. It should never be tainted. It DEFINITELY has to hit 20.

Overall the show was good, although the main event was a downer, and by that time I was spent. Michaels / HBK was incredible, no doubt of that. Absolutely the centerpiece of the show. Show / Edge / Cena was a sleeper of a good match. I felt going in there was NO WAY they could follow HBK / Taker, and they did a credible job and had an enjoyable tilt.
The Money In the Bank ladder match was really good. Kofi Kingston was a highlight, he pulled off some sick and slick moves. Crowd was in Christian's corner, but that balloon burst. Punk winning can be intriguing, I hope they turn him heel.
The diva battle royal was a disaster, and thats coming from the boards biggest diva fan. The old faces that came back for this - from Sunny to Molly Holly to Jackie Gayda- were given no play. You could not even tell they were there. The Santino thing was NOT funny, it was very dumb.
I was befuddled they pulled the Colon / Miz and Morrison match from the main show, that sucked. I was looking forward to that one, and I remember poor Miz saying in an interview last week that he was looking to "steal the show." Well...not even ON the show, as it were.
The legends thing was a groaner, Piper and Snuka should never see a ring again, although Piper going up for a dropkick was fun. Steamboat wrestled well but looked old and doofy. The Mickey Rourke thing does nothing for me.

The WWE Title match sucked, there was no buzz about that match at all. The result was the right one, but there was no suspense to it, just totally flat. But it is set up for an Orton win at Backlash.
The World Title was good, I agree with Tom, following Taker/HBK was no easy task but they pulled it off. The build was terrible as Balls pointed out, but the overall effort by all involved was very good. I think the major problem was Cena winning the belt doesn't seem special anymore considering how many times he's won it. It was far from a Wrestlemania moment.
Taker and HBK was everything you expected, and then some. Even with the result never in doubt, any expectations anyone had going in was shattered. From Taker almost killing himself to HBK kicking out of a tombstone, the final minutes, the near falls was great. I liked the part at the end like Rocky 2, with HBK and Taker using each other to get to their feet and trading shots. The buildup was great with HBK gwtting in Takers head, and it made perfect sense HBK would take more punishment than we;ve ever seen Taker dish out. If you could give a match 6 stars this is the match. Two years in a row, two 5 star matches. Both guys should just retire right now because you can't do better.
The IC was horrible but seeing as JBL is done it made sense. And I do like Rey as champ, if they keep it on him a while and let him defend it against some credible guys.
The Battle Royal was discussed already, don't have to go into it, but it is annoying that got time but the Tag Titles didn't.
The legends match was ok, nothing special, but I didn't hate it. Piper's nuts, everything out of his mouth was mother fucker this, you piece of shit that, he was out of his mind. Steamboat did a credible job but Jericho deserves a lot of dues, he sold like a million bucks and his performance deserves some high praise.
The MITB was good, a really great opener. Some very good spots, and even the botched ones didn't seem so bad. Kofi def stoof out, as did Christian. Punk winning is a bit of a surprise but not a bad one, heel or face let's hope the next title run of his isn't similar to his run last year.
Overall I enjoyed it. Maybe two matches were clumkers, and both title matches has to follow Taker and Michaels which was no easy task, I was drained and tired after that match so you can't blame the crowd if they weren't into the other matches as much as that one. Overall you have to be happy with the 64 bucks spent on the 4 hours plus.

let me just say that my First Live Wrestlemania Was awesome. Thank you to Captain for the Ride and the ticket.as for the Card itself, very good Maine Event was pretty shitty and i know why people Hate HHH.not really a bad match but not a WM main event the Cena/Show Edge was was better that that and way better than i thought it would be. HBK/Taker was very good and very exciting, the end with all the near falls, totally worth it I'm sure it went over well on TV but live it was fucking NUts.Diva match, didnt see it spent that time pissing buying more beer and looking aroun that massive stadium. Money in the Bank was the spotfest i expected, done very well even with the big guys in there, watching Mark henry climb thew ladder was a hoot. ii am convinced that this match and the rumble are the only reasons they keep Shelton around. him a kofi were the stars of this match. And yeah i'd like to see a hell CM punk. maybe get him a program wiith HHH over the summer.o h and the Tag title match was a good opener altho8ught i didint catch much of it as we were just getting into it after the 3 hours of drinking in the houston sun.I mean it was Wrestlemaina the granddaddy of them all!! good stuff

Pretty much agree with everything here...The main event was THE WORST match..especially after all that buildup....It almost seemed like at the end they rushed it as if they were "out of time" and told to take it home. MITB was a spotfest and the crowd was just all waiting in anticapation everytime a ladder was set up a certain way saying "OK where is SHelton and what is he going to do now?". He and Kofi were the stars of the match.....Now for Taker and HBK unbelieveable....Great match and I even said to Sancho if i come home and James has his usual HBK carried the match BS I would go nuts..James i am glad you did not. Both of them were great and I think even if I had to assess a percentage I may even say 55% Taker (and I am no Taker mark). The one little thing that is a bit tiring a little tiring is HBK over acting and way over the top with being in fear (like when Taker was getting counted out or the flopping/selling..Otherwise I loved how he switched the "mind games" leading up to this match.....Hardys were good and what was expected match wise. Glad they did the right thing and gave Matt the duke.
Tom if you get a copy of this from your trader friend I would love a DVD copy as I would love to watch it with the commentary which of course you miss being there.

As good as Shawn is, Taker is good enough to put on a show, he has the past Mania's too in the title match. I'm just happy because as always, the 5 star match of the night, for the 7th Mania in a row, since returning from a broken back, goes to him. It's no small feat, and as good as Taker is and was in the match, the reason the match this year was better than Taker/Edge or Taker/Batista, is because it was HBK across the ring. But I have always given Taker his due, he doesn't bug me, he's one of the big guys I don't mind. But, how in the holy hell did both you and Sancho not mention the spot where Taker almost fucking killed himself, how was the reaction in the building because in my room it was pretty fucking scary.
Nice seats by the way. those pics are very cool. I'm going def travel to a Mania one day, probably HBK's last Mania match, whenever that is, cause it won't be in MSG at WM 30 that's for sure. Def looked like a good time despite the mediocre card.

Is MSG actually set for WM30, or is that just a good guess based on the 10 year thing?
The fact that both these guys can still do what they do at their ages is pretty cool.

It's more an educated guess, I think it's safe to say they'll get it every 10 years. But it's going to to be hard to generate as much revenue as they did with a smaller place like MSG, as good as the place is, it's not the same as a football field. The pics Cap has the place looks great, and I doubt they can do something similar in the smaller venue. That said, Mania at the Garden has gone 1, 10 and 20, i think it's a safe bet number 30 will be back where it started.
The fact HBK can break his back and come back better than ever is beyond amazing. But yeah, both guys bring it, and the bigger the stage, the harder they go. I said that night, both guys can't do better than what they did, with each other or anyone else, the only thing that would have made that match even more special is if both guys retired on the spot. People who have been watching wreestling for over 30 years say it's the best match they ever saw, that;'s high praise. And it was everything, from Taker's swan dive over the top, to the near falls that happened later on so close and dramatic. It was as close to a perfect match you can get, and it's because of the two guys in the ring, take one of them away and the match isn't the same with someone else.
