I'm not trying to bait anyone. As far as I know, there is no legal issue. If there was something, it wouldn't be on the schedule, assuming of course that the schedule is accurate. I would think that when they bought WCW and the library, that would include all footage to Sting.
But I just can't think of a time when WWE ever did something like this--marketing a big star of another organization.

Sting is no longer a big star of another organization. He makes sporadic appearances, his career is pretty much in the can. Also, you need to keep in mind Vince and WWE do NOT consider TNA competition. TNA's ratings are half of that of Raw and Smackdown, and they do FIVE TIMES LESS the PPV buys month to month. They do not run house shows with any regularity either.
Vince could care less about them, they do not enter his realm of thinking. He wants to use that bulbous WCW library he has his hands on. The ONLY negative to putting out the DVD with Sting still working there is he will not be a part of the interview and documentary process.

I don't recall anytime either, but it doesn't matter. We went over why Vince is doing it. There will be little to no backlash on this.

I don't think there would be backlash either. It just seems like an odd marketing choice, given his history.

It isn't as much marketing as it is, hey, while this guy is relevant to 11 year olds who have no idea he used to wrestle Flair, let's put out this set and make some cash off of him. It's simple math, Stings set will be released on WWE Home Videos, it isn't making Sting or TNA money. Why is this still a discussion? Oh yeah now I remember, Balls doesn't let things go.

Balls, there hasn't been anything like this because Vince didn't own most of the major feds libraries before, and TNA isn't WCW, AWA, NWA, or even ECW. Come on man, just use a bit more brain power.

I know that, but he's had those libraries for several years, and there are quite a few wrestlers that aren't under contract. It's just an interesting strategy, assuming that it's true. He has plenty of stuff on the Dudleys, Booker T, Angle, Jim Cornette, Christian, Jarrett, a good chunk of the women, and probably a few I'm missing. I realize TNA isn't at the level of a WCW, but it is the number 2 promotion, and from what I've seen, most of the reviews of it are positive, while many people feel WWE is in a rut. A Sting DVD calls attention to the enemy product. I understand the short term money gains for the WWE on a Sting DVD. But if I were TNA, I would LOVE this DVD.

Not really. This DVD set is geared toward fans of my age and older. Most of the younger fans, who make up a vast majority of WWE fans, don't even think about Sting much.
The reviews are positive, WWE is in a rut, and it still outdraws them by a wide margin. What's WWE supposed to do? wipe the record books and stop showing footage on 24/7 of people who are in a fed that they double in the ratings even with these things out in the open?
And if you were watching TNA you'd know that Sting hasn't even been on the program for a few weeks. TNA has been the #2 fed while you were still watching the OC. When Sting was one of the top guys there no one cared as much as they do now. Sting isn't helping them, Joe, Cage, Angle, booker T and the Xdivision is what is making TNA more successful.

WWE is probably always going to outdraw its competition by a decent margin. WCW was the only group in history to compete with them, and that was due to massive influx of money by Turner, who also owned 2 TV stations that ran nationally.
And I understand Sting is not the whole show by a long shot. But a Sting DVD probably helps them as much as the WWE.

And your 'probably' wrong on both counts.
In the early 80's AWA and NWA were on par with the WWF, and this helps WWE more than it does TNA on the simple fact that Sting hasn't been on TNA for a few weeks, and will not draw any new viewers. The people buying this DVD set are either like me, huge old school Sting fans who are already watching TNA, or older guys who will buy it but could care less about TNA. WWE knows this and this is why they are releasing it.
You're overestimating Stings importance in the grand scheme of things this far along in his career. Were Sting a part of WWE after it's purchase of WCW, maybe you'd have a point. But he's been out of the limelight for years, and the most exposure he's gotten was on TNA while TNA was less than a blip on the radar.

So Shoot Interviews have been around a while, but the format is long in the tooth. Most grapplers have done one by now, spinning yarns on a couch. New angles are being taken, like the one I grabbed with Harley Race and Terry Funk drinking beers as they answered fan queries. This new concept sounds interesting. Interesting enough to me where I purchased the shoot straight from the issuers website, and did not wait for it to come to the trading world for a couple of dollar bills. Getting it straight from the source gets it to me quicker, and gets me a cool "booklet" too. Check this out....TITO VS GREG - THE FEUD (In their own words) www.kayfabecommentaries.com/DVD_MS_Tito_Greg.html

Just got the RAW DVD set in the mail today. I had ordered through Walmart, hoping for the "bonus" 4th disc of the 1st Raw ever, even though it was no longer advertised on their site. I rolled dice. No bonus disc. Sigh. Well, that Raw is currently on 24/7, I shall tape for my archives.
This is a Hell of a DVD set, however, great buy and walk down memory lane.

So I was reading some news over at Obsessed With Wrestling. There's a headline, citing Wrestling Observer. It is probably older news now, though it didn't seem to make this thread.
-- "According to the Wrestling Observer the Sting and Randy Savage DVDs that were scheduled for release this year are cancelled. Kevin Dunn was told to create a list of "big names" that WWE could release DVDs for. Among the other names he came up with were Steve Austin, The Rock and Mr. Perfect. Vince McMahon nixed the Sting and Savage DVDs because he still wants nothing to do with Savage and Sting recently signed a new deal with TNA."
So basically, for the reasons I stated, there will be no Sting DVD as Vince will NOT be promoting a wrestler at another organization.

Actually, since that story i has been reported the Sting DVD is still on the agenda. The Savage DVD is being postponed. WWE does not need Sting around to do a retrospective DVD on him, and in case you have not noticed, its now March and Sting has not been in a TNA ring in 2008. He is technically under employ, but its as "part-time" as it gets.

Says who? The Sting DVD is still set for a late 2008 release, and he will still be under TNA contract at that time.
Oh, and as to promoting things regarding other organizations....go to WWE.COM and check out the "Industry News" section....there you will find the lineup for this weekends TNA PPV, and other news on TNA and ROH, among others. Yes, on their own website, giving news from the "other organizations." But thanks to speaking on things you know nothing about!

Says the very article I cited. It's common sense. Giving news is one thing--actively promoting a DVD on a wrestler in another organization is a bit different. You will find no mention of a Sting DVD in the WWE release schedule at this time.

Balls, I subscribe to the Observer. I spend $140 a year on the Observer. DONT TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK IT SAYS.
Quite simply, Obsessed with Wrestling did not update the info. The Observer has reported the Sting DVD is back on.

There is already an amazing Benoit set out there, which still sits prominently on my shelf. I dont think they would bother doing another one (the first one only sold average numbers) but they may always print out a new batch.

Silvervision in the U.K. announced today at the WrestleMania 24 DVD will include the Battle Royal (why?) and the Hall of Fame ceremony, but not the Flair farewell segment on Raw (likely saved for the Flair DVD). The Hall of Fame ceremony ends up clocking in at 4 1/2 hours on DVD, so it's the whole deal.

This is one I have been looking forward to literally for a couple of years now, since it was first rumored to be kicked around.
The Hennig DVD - listing below. I actually really like this match listing, and its great that the 60 minute match with Bock that I go on and on about is on here, to save for posterity!
Curt Hennig, better known as Mr. Perfect, competed for the American Wrestling Association, World Wrestling Entertainment and World Championship Wrestling. Born the son of legendary Larry “The Axe” Hennig, it was perhaps inevitable that Curt would want to follow in his father’s footsteps. But Mr. Perfect lived up to his moniker becoming one of the best in-ring technicians of his generation. A former AWA World Heavyweight Champion, he was also the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 1990s. Loved by fans and friends alike, Mr. Perfect entertained in and out of the ring, earning him the honour of induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. This two-disc set relives his life and career, from his early start as a second-generation star through AWA, WWE, and WCW. Some of his greatest matches and vignettes are included. Who was this man? Here’s a hint… he was absolutely “perfect”.
Disc 1
Perfection Twin City Origins Building a Path AWA Mr. Perfect Living up to His Name Intercontinental Champion The Prankster Commentator WCW Return to the WWE A Sudden Tragedy Hall of Fame The Perfect Legacy Lives On
Curt Hennig vs. Eddie Gilbert Madison Square Garden (21/11/82)

So I picked up the DVD of "TNA - GLOBAL IMPACT" - from Japan. I had previously only seen this available on the TNA website, but grabbed it in a Best Buy for 14 bucks. This is a great DVD.
When the special aired on Impact, it only showed some background filler, like the wrestlers in Japan doing this and that and the other thing, and some quick soundbites. It aired only one match, Angle vs Yuji Nagata, which was a 4 star match at the least.
This DVD has the entire series of TNA vs New Japan matches from that night, featuring matches with Abyss, Christoper Daniels, and the tag team of Christian, AJ Styles, and Petey Williams. You also get the Steiners vs Tomko and A Train (Giant Bernard).
I only watched the first couple of matches, and they are fast-paced / Japanese style. Good stuff. And even the footage of the wrestlers hitting up Korean Barbecue and Sushi joints, and a temple, are interesting and a cool watch. The "pre-match" interviews with the talent, including Jeff Jarrett, were very informative, and a nice touch. There is also footage of the post-match press conferences, which is a big dealio in Japan.
This is a good add to the collection.

So Ring of Honor is having a 35 % off Labor Day Sale, and I just nabbed 4 DVDs. The Ron Killings Shoot, an Alere LittleFeather comp, and best ofs of "Generation Next" (Jack Evans, Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, Alex Shelley) and Spanky.
The Spanky one looks crazy cool, with him battling guys like Evans, CM Punk, Jay Lethal, and Shelley. While I have no interest in building an ROH show library, these best-ofs with matches of some of my favorite guys fit my bill. The Generation Next comp also has appearances from Punk, Jimmy Rave, and Homicide, among others.
The Killings shoot should be interesting. It was done in 2004, soon after he headed over to TNA, and he apparently took a heap of rips at the WWE, where he hath returned. I have always been a Killings fan, and I have not been able to pinpoint this shoot from my regular trading fans. ROH had it at 9.99 before the discount, so I added this in.

Bump.
So I preordered the Mr Perfect set. I can honestly say I am looking forward to this one more than any other since the Pillman set came out. I posted the match listing / extras above, its a quality set, and for Christs sake some of you guys need to sit down and watch that Hennig / Bock 60 minute draw.
