Yeah, John Maine starts game 1 against a team that finished the season on a 7 game winning streak and 3 World Series winners in thier staff. If the Mets are going to win, they are going to have to outhit the Dodgers.
Oh hey the Pads were supposed to cakewalk too. The Cards are having thier way with Peavy right now.
The playoffs are a whole different animal.

That was wonderful. It was almost worth all the aggravation over the course of the night to get there. Way for the Mutts to waste what would have been one of the most talked about defensive plays in playoff history. Now, who cares? Way for Beltran to go out LOOKING. Sorry, but even if you know you cant do anything with that pitch, fight it off. Dont give up on it.
Usually I deride crowd shots, but I could not get enough of them last night. To top it all off, it all happened in the RAIN. Close to midnight, and most of those idiots have to work today.
LOL! LOLOLOL!

The crowd shots were DEFINITELY one of the highlights of the night. I loved the one with the guy in face paint, all dejected. I think the same guy is on the front page of the Daily News.
Think about that. Imagine you sit out all night, in the rain, see your team lose to a team they should have destroyed, in the 9th, get home, likely at 2am or later, go to bed, re-live the game and the misery, drag your ass out of bed less than 5 hours later, and then to have that moment of sheer misery captured on the front page of the Daily News the next day.

I got a dejected Delgado on the cover of the Daily News I picked up today, but i got your point. One regret I have today is I am in the Long Island office with no radio reception, and streaming radio online keeps timing out. This is one day I would listen to the rants on talk radio for sure.

My mistake. Go to www.nydailynews.com. It's the picture you see at the front of the website, not the front of the actual paper. I wouldn't be surprised if the picture is IN the paper though. Here is the shot. I think the guy looks a bit like Knuckles.

Today is the day to be a morning person--even if you're not. To be in work all chipper and happy. You should whistle the song, "Whistle While You Work." It is a joyous day. The Mets are still in a good position for the future. They have a young core signed long term, but now, other teams have a chance to work on catching up, and their pitching is still suspect. Even though their future looks bright, at least we can enjoy today.

That can't be Knuckles. He stayed for the whole game.
And there's no point in the Mets going to the golf course because you have to SWING at the ball! ;D

I'm going to have to give some credit to Knoblauch for doing his jinx thing. I found out from him that one of the first times he Knoblauched a team was in 1986, when as a child, he told his dad that the Mets were about to lose the World Series.

I wonder how much time he spent putting that shit on. I'm sure it's water proof, since the rain didn't screw with it.

I'm not sure whether to laugh at Tom Glavine or actually feel bad for him. He clearly restructured his contract, and took a pay cut for 2006, so that he could become a free agent, allowing him a prodigal son return to Atlanta for his 300th Win. He even had the Mets agree to decline their option on him. Lo and behold, The Prodigal Dad has no interest in bringing him home, not even making an offer.

I truly am shocked the Braves never made an offer. That has to bother Galvine to some degree.

I am also surprised, and I think the Braves are stupid to leave him hanging on the vine. I am sure it bothers Glavine, but at the same time the fact that he will be making 11 million dollars this year tends to keep a man happy.

Braves were foolish to not at least make an offer. He would have jumped probably at anything to go back and get #300 with them. Same division and not trying to take one of the Mutts top starters was not very smart. I am sure DF is happy to keep Tommy G.

SportsNet New York today named former New York Met (and Yankee) Lee Mazzilli lead studio analyst for its pregame and postgame coverage of the Amazins.
Mazzilli will join studio host Matt Yallof for more than 85 Mets telecasts from SNY’s street-level studio in Manhattan. Mazzilli will also file content for SNY’s Web site (www.sny.tv).
Mazzilli will make his first appearance for the regional sports network Monday at 6:30 p.m. on Mets Hot Stove.
“We are excited to add Lee as the newest member of our Mets broadcast team. His unique background as a former Met and Major League manager will be a strong complement to Keith [Hernandez], Ron [Darling] and Gary [Cohen], who had an outstanding season in our inaugural year,” SNY president Jon Litner said in a prepared statement. “Lee will provide our viewers a consistent studio presence and a passionate approach to baseball.”
“I am thrilled to join SportsNet New York and cover the Mets, who are one of the most exciting teams to watch in all of baseball,” Mazzilli said in a prepared statement. “It’s going to be a lot of fun covering a team that I grew up watching as a kid and had the great pleasure to play for. These are very exciting years for Met fans and New York fans alike.”

El Duque has been sent back to NY to have doctors look at his neck. Awwwwww.
Not that I wish bad on El Duque, but glad this is happening when he's wearing the Mets uniform.

All elderly Latinos, as well. Aren't there any rundown white guys looking for work?
People talk about racist hiring practices in sports. Perhaps they should look at the product Mr Minaya is putting on and around the field. Fo shizzle!

Eh, he was a lot of fun for a while, but he's old news now. Till you mentioned him, I forgot all about him.
