Way to go!
Mets RF Shawn Green is planning to speak to manager Willie Randolph about his plans to observe Yom Kippur, which falls on Monday, Oct. 2 this year. That should be the first day of workouts before the NL Divison Series.

It's an off day. It should be no problem.

They're losing first round to the Dodgers if they play them.

Its a day of workouts BEFORE THE PLAYOFF OPEN. Yeah, a guy can get by with a skipped workout, but there are reasons for these things or they would not do them. It would be good if he could get out there with his team for this. I am sure you would be up in arms if someone needed to take a Holy Sunday or a Ramadan type of thing off.

I don't know if there actually is a Christian equivalent to Yom Kippur. Sandy Koufax once pushed a World Series start back a day for it. I think Good Friday might be on the same level for you guys, but even that one isn't as solemn.

No, becuase no other person in this world considers a christian holiday to be as meaningful as a fucking jew one. Imagine a world with no religion?

James, why are you bashing religion?
As a non-Jew, I think Balls may be right... all the Jews I know who even casually practice, take Yom Kippur very seriously, whereas I know many Christians who do not go to mass/church or any services for Ash Wednesday or Good Friday, which I am pretty sure are the most serious holidays.
Christmas and Easter are [or have become to most people] more family-oriented "fun" holidays, like Rosh Hashana.
That said, Christians don't really have any tradition requiring them to not work on Ash Wednesday or Good Friday, as long as they can fit in a trip to church.

LOL it was a John Lennon line, holy shit. I guessed you missed the sarcasm in the first line.
Anyway, again, if the Dodgers face the Mets in the first round, the Mets will lose.

The way things are playing out the Mets will not have to worry about the Dodgers.

The entire NL is such a joke, the Mets have a cakewalk to the WS.

The Dodgers will be trouble in October. I put up those 3 pithcers against any top 3 on any other team. Yeah Maddux is up there but it's still Greg Maddux. Derek Lowe can get it done as wel asl Brad Penny, that's a stacked top three rotation. As long as the offense produces the Dodgers can compete and give any team a hard time in the first round.

I know what you're saying, but if the Dodgers were so good, why don't they have a better record? Lowe and Penny are nothing special, and Maddux is old. I can't see any team realistically beating the Mets in the NL. All 4 teams in the AL are good enough to do it though.
Of course, stranger things have happened.

Guess you haven't watched any Phillies or Padres games over the last month. Or the fact that the Mets #1 starter and centerfielder are hurt. Jw

Meanwhile, the Mets keep winning. The Mets should cakewalk through the NL.

Don't you understand it's a different season in post season? In a 5 game series ANYTHING can hapen, this is the round there are supposed to be upsets. A wild card team gets hot and steamrolls through the playoffs. Just because the mets, or the yanks, are in first or winning guarantees nothing.

A 5 game series means anything can happen, no doubt. And yes, everyone is 0-0. But the NL this year is HORRIBLE. I've never seen anything like it. The last time the NL was this weak was 1986 when there were only 2 good teams. This year, there is only one.
There's no question a good team can get hot and steamroll. I just don't see it happening now.

Glavine, El duque, Trachsel, Maine is not exactly the best starting 4. In fact, if pedro can't go, or continues to pitch like this, the Mets may have the worst starting rotation in the playoffs. Especially if the Astros are in and the Cards are out

But the National League is SO bad. The Mets didn't get to where they were because of Pedro. Pedro was on the DL for a good chunk of the season, and they still far outmatched the rest of that AAAA league.

How are those two more years on Pedro's contract looking?
Yeah, yeah, I know, they had to overpay, and they had to give him the four years, but still!

I heard that they knew going in that Pedro had 2 years of quality pitching, and 2 years of shit.

If that was the case, Pedro short-changed them a year.

Speaking of short-changed, out for the postseason -- torn calf muscle.

In Newsday, David Lennon notes that a sign that read, “KNOW YOUR PLACE, ROOK!,” signed by, “YOUR TEAMMATES,” hung above Lastings Milledge’s locker following last night’s win…
Lennon goes on to write…
“Milledge, as usual, ate dinner alone seated at his locker, facing inward, as the rest of the Mets crowded the clubhouse cafeteria. Someone had hidden Milledge's street clothes, and one player thought they had been replaced by a dress.”…
According to Lennon, Milledge ‘mouthed off’ to a veteran teammate in Atlanta and is rapidly wearing out his tenous welcome…
