So, we've all heard that Torre has been inked to an extension, making him the Dodger's manager through the 2011 season.
Just listened to an L.A. ESPN correspondent on the Michael Kay show: apparently Ned Colletti has all but penciled Don Mattingly in as the Dodger's opening day manager for 2012, Torre has let it be known that his wish is that Mattingly succeed him, and McCourt allegedly likes Mattingly for the job as well.
Of course, that's two full baseball seasons away. But I don't like this AT ALL!!!!! AT ALL!!!!!! Some things just are not right, and this is not right.

Why not? Let him bust his managerial cherry in Los Angeles, and then come back here somewhere down the road with some experience.

Good for Donnie. he wanted the Yankee job, and was turned down. Once Mattingly takes over, and Manny is gone, I will root heartily for the Dodgers. Hopefully for Donnie Baseball, this divorce debacle will be settled and he'll have an owner who will spend a buck or 2

I hope Donnie Baseball remembers he's a Yankee and doesn't take the job (Fat Chance).
That would seriously bum me out. I wish the Steinbrenners would pull their heads out and let Donnie know he's the number one candidate to succeed Girardi. I don't give a shit if he's never managed...he's Donnie Baseball for chrissakes! ;D

He does. He also remembers interviewing for the job and being rejected. Out of respect for girardi, he went elsewhere instead of hanging around waiting for Girardi to slip on a banana peel. It's not like he's in Boston or managing the Mets. Girardi is gonna be here for a long time, certainly as long as Cashman is here, barring a Met like 2-3 year run

Ok, thats stupid. On one hand, you would be telling Girardi he has someone lurking in waiting, which is asinine to do. On the other, Girardi could conceivably be here for YEARS, what is Mattingly supposed to just sit around on the Dodger bench while someone else succeeds an aging Torre just cause he wants the Yankee job?
And Im as big a Mattingly fan as anyone, but lets let this go, please. Enough, he has never proven he can manage anything, lets not anoint him the Pope of the team here.

I'm not trying to rational here, Tom. I'm upset that a great Yankee will soon be the stinkin' Dodger's manager. That pisses me off.
Tell Girardi to hit the bricks if it means preserving Donnie Baseball's Yankee legacy. Hitting Coach is bad enough, but overall it's pretty benign. but manager??? Come on. OHHHHHH THE HUMANITY!

This isnt the 1920s, Cho. People switch organizations at will. You go where the jobs are. This is such a non-issue. Im not sold on Mattingly as manager anyway. Let him go already.

I'm not sold he's a good manager either. But I'm not sold that Girardi is a good manager.
And I like Donnie Baseball MUCH more than I like Girardi

Why, because he won a batting title over 25 years ago?

And that, and the price of admission paid at the door, will get him into the Hall of Fame.

Girardi is only a former manager of the year.
