Are Balls, Dana, and I the only ones who are watching this show? Its my favorite show right now, hands down. And we got the news last year, that despite slogging ratings, this critics choice has been picked up for a full-season run, which guarantees a healty chunk of new episodes.

You have to figure at least 16 more episodes will air starting with tonight. Maybe we are the only 3 that watch from this board.
I have no use for Jason Street, and the whole Lyla and Riggins thing is too soapy. But then again, anything that keeps Lyla on the air is ok since she is smoking hot. She's one of the three hottest women on TV.
For me, the show's best storylines involve the coach and Saracen.
But I can't see how a team like this would even be considered for a state championship now. Those hopes have to be dashed.

Balls, its not college football. The teams are not seeded. They can sneak in the back door, win their local and regional tourneys, and move on to the state title. You do not need to run the table in high school football to win state. Once the team gels, they should be a powerhouse (at least, that is the implication)
So many storylines spring off the Street scenario that its a vital storyline. And its a good storyline. I could not disagree with you more on your take of it.

That's the thing I'm not clear on. It may not be college football, but there are a LOT of teams. Football isn't baseball or basketball where you can play on successive nights. So any tournament would have to be chosen from the best of the best.
I would be curious if anyone knows how this tournament is run.
And is there just ONE state champ? Or is it like college where they divide schools? In college, the ability to have athletic scholarships matter. But in HS, the size of the town and the number of students in a school could matter.
Obviously a school with 500 people is not going to produce the same talent as a school with 3000. Are there divisions in HS?
If not, there would likely have to be some elimination factor because it's not like they could do a 64 team tourney. And Texas is a huge state.
As for Jason Street, I don't like him. He doesn't even look human. There's something weird about him. He definitely deserved his fate, and when he gets a setback, I will cheer.

Word on the street is that Friday Night Lights may move to Sundays after football season is over.
Major plot flaw. Jason Street's accident was 2 months ago, yet the team has only played 3 games. Huh?
And he sure heals quickly for a gimp. Jason Street sucks.
Not liking a steroid plot. I would think there IS such a thing as a pro athlete that doesn't use steroids. Plus, I don't know, but I don't think the effects of steroids are instant. From what I've always read, the steroids aren't what make you stronger. They simply let you heal faster so you can work out more and push more weight.
And they shrink your balls and make you grumpy.

And the plotline is probably going to revolve around Smash's change in behavior, and not in muscle mass. Balls, I am sorry, but you cant have a drama about a high school football team and the pressure of being in the spotlight and hoping to be drafted without exploring the steroid issue. Its a natural match. And it IS reality. Dana was telling me last night about guys on her high school team that were doing the roids. And that was NOT part of a drama, or kids expecting to make the NFL. Its just what stupid kids do these days.
Its an excellent storyline plot, especially for this character. I told you last night via text, what would YOU do for plots? You would make the most boring show ever.

I told you. The Saracen plotline works. The coach works. Dealing with the media works. This team is supposed to win a state championship and they haven't beaten the tar out of anyone.
Explore the whole "treat the guy like a God" thing. I liked that superstar QB coming back and in reality being a loser. I really liked that the coach didn't give him the job.
I liked the episode before with the beat down of the geek.
But stereotypical plotlines are lame.
I liked how Riggins suddenly dedicated himself to football instead of drinking. I'm hoping that after next week, they will start to close the door on the cheating girlfriend plotline.

I'm not big on the cheating girlfriend plotline either, but I can tolerate it. I think the steroid plotline is good and throwing in the "momma made the church take up a collection" twist is good. I like it.

I was actually hoping they were going to put the steroid plot to bed. I hate Jason Street. I've decided that my disgust for Jason Street will fuel me to get through that plotline. Hopefully the writers will dream up new things for Jason Street's life to go wrong, like losing his arms.
Riggins should have kicked the shit out of Street in self defense and then filed assault charges. Then Jason could rot in jail while Riggins is making time with his girl.
Riggins should have punched Street in the balls until he felt it.

Dana, that depends on how hot she is. In the case of Lyla, yes, you can bang his girl. It's your duty.
Besides, Jason Street has it coming, with his funny hand movements and weird face.
I DVR'd the episode last week, and watched it yesterday. Very good episode. As much as I dislike the Street storyline, I like the Saracen dating the coach's daughter story. Something very realistic about how that is going.
Very good episode overall.

It's really starting to piss me off that more people aren't watching this show. Last night's episode was outstanding.

Is an early ratings report out yet? This show is a hidden gem. But man, even the Idol result show is going to slaughter it.

I believe you can still catch all the episodes online. At least "for a limited time." Maybe they want to clear bandwidth or something, but I seem to remember them promo'ing that you can watch this show from the beginning online. Its worth it. I cant recommend this show enough. Here's the site - turns out you can not only watch each episode, but you can also watch a "2 minute summary" for each one if you dont have the time. www.nbc.com/Friday_Night_Lights/

Another excellent episode last night. I'm glad that the whole Smash thing is not being dragged out. I didn't like the plotline in the first place, so I'm glad it is progressing, and we don't have an entire season with him using the steroids.
One thing I like about this coach is that while he somewhat cares about his team, winning DOES come first, and he isn't super high and mighty. It's not ok to lose if you try your best. Winning DOES matter and despite the best of intentions, if you suck, you get benched.
The coach is a complicated character.
I still hate Jason Street and his plotline. The proposal made me sick. But I do like how Buddy Garity has been developed.
Interesting preview from next week.

The more I watch this show, the more I get mad that it's going to be canceled. I say that every week. I'm not so much a fan of the racism subplot, since it's been done to death on other shows, but the bottom line is that they did it well, and the true plot that ruled was the Taylor family drama. None of these characters are perfect, but that's great.
And I liked that Riggins was the one who defended his teammate. The cops pulling over the team bus was downright stupid though. That could never happen, especially since the whole thing would be on video and Smash was the victim of the late hit, which was also a criminal assault (assuming the Riggins brawl was criminal assault).
The bottom line is the team unity that should come from that brawl. They would be closer than ever.

Considering the lack of activity on this thread it should not be a shock that the show is getting the ax.

You're right. It's no shock the show is getting the ax (even though it's not official, just highly probable).
It's just a shame since it really is a very good show. It's the kind of show that would get a "best show you're not watching" nod from TV Guide.

You are going to base the health of a show on how many people on hecklehouse.com talk about it? House may be the best overall show on tv, and that thread has 3 posts.
Fact is the show got a full season, unlike a heap of other shows that ended up on the refuse pile.

Just a heads up, it appears new episodes resume this coming Friday, January 4th. I was taken by surprise, I thought they had burned through all filmed episodes.

I think there's actually quite a few left, surprisingly. Some shows made it through episode 15. So we could have up to 7 left, assuming they aired 8.

Well, winding to the end here. This Fridays episode is 100% confirmed last episode of Season 2, and pretty much 95% confirmed end of series.
I saw an interesting interview with the new NBC studio head on TVGuide.com, where he pretty much flat-out said the show is dead in the water cause "no one is watching."
A savagely underrated show, all the way through. I did see "spoilers" for Friday, and I wont give them here, but they made me roll my eyes.
Either way, the show will be missed.

Damn it. I love this show. I've seen every episode except for maybe the last one (I think I'm caught up, but not sure). It wasn't even supposed to go this year, but the thin bullpen this year helped it out. Anyway, that blows.

I didn't even know you watched it. I agree 100 percent. It's an incredibly well written show. Season 2 was not up to par with Season 1, but it was still very good.

Whats worse is tomorrow will not be a true "finale" with that in mind...without the writers strike they would have most likely eked out a longer season. But with the wretched viewing numbers, its really not worth bringing back.
Its almost funny how, with all the appeals and boosts from reviewers and serious TV afficianodos, people still choose to not watch the show. And thats not meant at friends of ours who dont bother, its meant at the general viewing public who always whine that nothing but garbage is on TV.
So now in one hour we are to put a bow on everything that has been going on. Season 2 was good enough, I think it held up comparably to 1. There is certainly enough juice for another batch of episodes (which I did NOT see going into season 2)
Yeah, from all accounts, this is it, folks. Enjoy it.
