I remember the waitress, not the pregnancy. It's coming back now. But there were parts with Street that didn't feature Lyla?

Friday Night Lights will be back for not one but TWO more seasons, 13 episodes each, repeating the format of this year where it will air on DirectTV first.

Add to that a potential spinoff with Jason Street ("Street Smarts") and the foundation is there, I guess. Considering the ratings have never gotten out of the dumper, I cant imagine why its sticking around. I like it, but we are not commited and may not continue once the cast changes (and I read it will)

Lindsay and I are pyched! It our favorite show. I have read that both Tyra and Lyla will be written off in the next season as they both move on to other things. I will still watch as there are enough key characters remaining and I have faith in the writers to deliver new characters and stories.
The combination of revenue from direct TV and the network is enough. I also understand they have a relatively low budget- something like $2.5 mil per episode which is quite low for a 1 hour drama. It also does pretty well on downloads.

Tyra and Lyla are only there for their looks. Tyra has been involved in some of the worst plotlines on the show. Introducing JD McCoy this year was a good idea as it is a smooth transition for when Saracen graduates.

Its official - in todays USA TODAY - 2 more "seasons" and a pilot being worked.
NBC has picked up FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for 26 more episodes, renewing a deal with DirectTV that allows the satellite provider to air the episodes first. New installments of the drama will be split into two 13 episode seasons. Thought NBC airings have averaged fewer than 5 million viewers - considered terrible numbers - DirectTV pays about 40% of production costs. Writing has also commenced on a pilot revolving around New York transplant Jason Street, entitled "Street Smarts." Word is he may be joined by some of the "graduating" Friday Night Lights cast as they move on from the Texas high school.

Just because you put the last part in italics doesn't mean that you aren't making it up. There is no spinoff called Street Smarts.
