Give it a shot Tom, I do believe you will like it. Anyone else out there that can back me on this? Girls are hot, good amount of explicit sex scenes, and multiple story lines all with their own unique spin.

I'll give it a look, Jb and report back. I think Cho and I have discussed this show in the past, but a weekly show that I record every week and watch multiple times before erasing, is The Soup on E! That show makes me laugh out loud more than any other show on television. Some weeks can be weak, but I want to say it's hilarious 80% of the time. This clip gets a huge laugh out of me every time I see it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLAeOjY2X5Y

Jackass, my favorite Soup moment of all time is the Whitney Houston "KISS MY ASS" clip.

So last night we got around to watching the "40 Most SOFT-SATIONAL Rock Songs Of All Time." Yet another one of those VH-1 snippy shows, with comics and Chris Jericho types sitting there laughing about goofy videos and music.
This one was, well, soft rock. You know, Christopher Cross and "Sailing." Stuff from America, David Soul, Air Supply.
The songs were wack. Bought back some crazy memories, especially old WNBC - AM radio standards like Anne Murray and Juice Newton.
It was funny to see the people (especially one singer from the 70s who was a dead ringer for the Geico Caveman) and the vids, hear the songs, and the jokes that came from them.

So last night the wife surprises me with a Magnavox DVD Recorder....a purchase I have been mulling over but had been reluctant to pull the trigger.
It was advertised as $100.00, but when she brought it up to the Wal-Mart check-stand it rang up at $49.99. The price on the shelf and the Wal Mart website, as well as other retailers' websites all still indicate $100.00. Methinks we got away with a lucky glitch in the system.
Anyway, last night I started revisiting/offloading some of my OLD Tivo recordings - some dating back to 2005. So far I've burned "When it was a game" I and II, Viva Baseball (an excellent Spike channel documentary about the history of Latin major leaguers), The Shot Heard Round The World (HBO documentary about Bobby Thompson's home run), Mantle (HBO Documentary) to DVD. Tonight I move on to The Ghosts Of Flatbush.

Hey, I got a legit question on these DVD recorders. The ones you see sprinkled in the store with both a DVD and a VCR feature...can you burn videotapes to disc? I would imagine so. In fact, one of my dual DVD/VCR players at home allows me to tape non-protected DVDs as I play em.
My main interest is changing some of my tapes over to DVD copies. When I asked the dolt in the store this weekend, he said he "did not think so" when I asked about recording from tape to DVD.

Normally, if the DVD is a DVD-R (recorder) they can. Just do what I do when one of those dopes doesn't know. Open the box and get the manual out and start reading.
If it doesn't do what I want, then they can tape it back up.
If it does do what I want, I grab another one that hasn't been opened by some maniac.
Actually, though, just get an RCA cable and plug your VCR output into the DVD Recorder input and you are set. Don't bother with some wackey hybrid monstrosity.

HAHA. Nice Jackass. I alway go for the "fresh" box too...even if I'm the one who disturbed the pristine nature of the box upfront.
I would guess that functionality would be there Tom. However if not you can simply daisy-chain the Cable/Satellite Receiver/Tivo(DVR)---->VCR---->DVD recorder. That will allow you to record whatever signal is being fed into the DVD Recorder whether it's a signal coming from playing a tape on the VCR, a signal from live TV being fed through the VCR, or a signal from Tivo(DVR) being fed through the VCR.

Cho, that sounds way difficult. Are you trying to trip me up or something?
And how much room do you think I have in my entertainment center anyway? Your way sounds arcane, with a TIVO/DVD/VCR sandwich somehow having to fit.

Like I said, the DVD-R/VCR combo probably has the ability to record from itself, whether you're recording an un-protected DVD to VHS or VHS to DVD. I wouldn't see a reason why the manufacturer would NOT implement that functionality.
My daisy chain example was just to illustrate that it can be done, regardless of the ability of the DVD-R/VCR combo to record from itself.
Currently my set up is satellite cable--->DirecTV/Tivo Receiver--->DVD/R---->TV. My VCR is connected to my TV and surround sound independently.

You have to be wary. Normally those cheapskate combo units are players only. A video cassette player and a DVD player in one case.
If you have an Entertainment Center, or even call what you have your gear stashed into, an Entertainment Center, then you are not DVD-R material.
Go listen to a Hi-Fi.

I think Bucks Super Stereo World carries a nice line of DVD-R/VCR units.

For some unknown reason, my DVR occasionally hiccups and I miss something it was supposed to record. (I really hate when these ornery machines do not do as they are told!) I any case, I was catching up on Grey's Anatomy this weekend and I discoverd that an eisode my box got all rebellious and refused to record was no longer available on ABC.com, as they only keep most shows up for four weeks & the one my box missed was FIVE weeks ago... So I searched a bunch of different sites... I have not gotten into the bit-torrent thing because it seems like WAAAAAY too much work & I have been warned about downloading from most of the share sites because they are virus havens... I found a place where you can watch tons of shows on streaming video for free... the quality is not excellent and downloading some of the streams are ridiculously slow, but it might be better if I were not working wireless. Anyway, if you miss one episode of a show and you really want to find it cheaply and easily (so you can watch the other 10 episodes that are clogging up the DVR box...) you can try www.sidereel.com

Most of these shows have websites sprung off the network site with all the episodes available to watch.

Huh?
We watched a special called "Jessica the Hippo" the other night. This idiot and his wife that live near an animal preserve in Africa adopted a hippo soon after birth that was lollygagging around in a a stream shortly after birth, without Mom around.
Now the hippo is 5 and opens the door to the house and clambers on the bed. And breaks it. The woman gives the thing massages. It eats dog food and sweet potatoes, and drinks a water/coffee mix out of soda bottles.
By the end I disliked the hippo and wanted it shot dead, like one of its courters did when he wandered down the river and encroached on someones property. The look on the face of Jessica's benefactor when a neighbor showed him a pic with a bunch of townfolk posing by this dead hippo made me giggle.
