You are right that they don't make them like they used to. But that said, while maybe not Mel Allen, Bobby Murcer was a good listen. I don't mind announcers like Singleton or O'Neill.
But Sterling, Waldman and Kay suck.

I will again disagree. Yesterday was another day where I heard the whole game on the radio, outside in the yard. Good listen. Sterling and Waldman also spent a lot of time talking Bob Sheppard, rightfully so, with a lot of amusing anecdotes. The love they felt for the man seemed real. I teared up a bit listening to some of the chatter.
Sterling has not been quite as bombastic as everyone continues to paint him, the home run calls aside. He brandished another doozy, after Marcus Thames went deep, bellowing "Happy Thames are here again!"
I much prefer Sterling and Kay to any TV pack they assemble. I find Kay much more annoying than Sterling. I like Singleton, Flaherty is ok, Paulie is just passable but people give him more credit than he deserves cause of who he is.

Let's not forget all the WRONG calls the guy makes. He's the most annoying announcer I have ever heard. Too self centered.
Paulie DOES get a lot of credit because of who he is, but that's not a BAD thing.

I have to agree with Tom to a point: I still detest Sterling and Waldman, but I've found them slightly less annoying this season. I think they're making an effort to cut down on the BS. Still, they do make far too many mistakes, as Balls pointed out.
