Regardless, I am brothers in arms with Kay on this one.
I loathe Mussina. If he were just another inconsistent pitcher, that'd be one thing. But it's this whole mental thing about Mussina - his rigid nature and his fucking lame Rain Man condition that causes him to flip out and bitch and whine when anything short of what he considers optimal conditions exist.

I think it's funny that the thread for discussion Yankees media coverage is called "The John Sterling Is A Drunk" thread!
Anyway...
Kim Jones had another Kim Jones moment in her exchange with Mussina:
"This is the shortest outing you've had in 16 years."
Mussina quipped back sarcastically, "Oh really, thanks a lot."
Jones continued, unphased, "You're welcome....does this type of loss blah blah blah..."

Dont know if any of you caught the snippet about Sterling on PAGE SIX of the POST yesterday. His "disgusting" behavior in the Yankee press dining area. Apparently he walks up to the ice cream bin and uses his finger to take a swipe and lick. He also continually eats out of the dessert platters with his same soiled spoon.
No joke, this was in the paper.

Im surprised they get a chance to bungle calls, in between all the ads they have to read during the game. Hell, even the ads are sponsored by another ad!

yea t. the advertisments are getting out of hand. but it does keep ticket prices fairly cheap. for 2,000 seats at least. day of the game infield seats going for $400 face value. insane!!!

John Sterling is an idiot. Listening right now, you would think that this entire Yankees' season had just last night been upended by a bad umpire's call on the play on Lowery at 3rd.
MORON!

ITs really old how he is making a Yankee comeback attainable. You would think its as likely as the evening train home being late. And AGAIN they are acting like the only two teams playing baseball are Boston and New York. The Yankees do not simply have to catch Boston.....there is another team up there too.

Not only that, but we are at the point where the Yankees fate is NOT entirely in their own hands....and Sterling has completely neglected to mention that.

Well, a little while ago Suzyn finally acknowledged the proverbial elephant in the room, and mentioned that Boston is only one of two teams the Yankees are chasing. And even Sterling, for all his bonhomie, admitted the Yankees will need to go something like 24-5 the rest of the way to even have a chance.

|
|
Post by Chris on Sept 1, 2008 0:47:56 GMT -5
And it's not even as easy as that. For all the people saying how hard it will be for the Yankees to go 24-5, they're still omitting the fact that the Yankees could go 29-0 and if Boston plays even slightly above mediocre baseball, it will have been for naught.

Cho, no one's saying any of these things anymore. As near as I could tell all "playoff talk" ended with the Yankee loss Saturday.

From what I'm reading pitch selection is something they are working on down there. He's hitting .333 so if he comes back this year, hopefully he will be improved. Either way, these people need to produce in AAA for awhile before being given a shot. Girardi said it best yesterday when he said these kids need to earn their way onto the roster. It's not coming to them. That goes for Hughes, Kennedy, Melky, and anyone else down there. Produce or you don't get to play in the Bronx.

See, this is the sorta thing the bugs me about the Yankee-centric Yankee broadcasters. Waldman is doing the scoreboard. I was checking out some radio action while cleaning up after dinner, which is what Waldman should have been doing instead of the scoreboard. But I digress.
So first Sterling goes wandering, wondering why the Dodgers have not "clinched yet." He is crunching records, games left, all that. Scrunching his brain. Too bad they HAVE clinched, and its news that is out there. The fact that these idiots are not brushing up on who is where and why is disrespectful to the game and those who listen to them.
To make things worse Waldman does the scores in no sort of order, going on about the Mariners losing their 100th game and ignoring the crucial White Sox / Twins stuff. She did not even give the Mutts score until a few scores into the NL action (even the Washington rain delay was mentioned first) - um, the Mets are fighting for their playoff life.
GIVE THE SCORES THAT MATTER! ITS YOUR JOB!

I have not had the "pleasure" yet of listening to this with my own two years -- and hopefully won't ever, because I don't want him on next year's team -- but I was told Ivan Rodriguez is now "Pudgearoo." If this is true, he must be tarred and feathered.

While I did not really expect him to be going anywhere, todays paper confirmed that Michael Kay has "re-upped for a long time" on both his YES and 1050 AM deals.

Bad news for you Leiter fans in regards to the Yankee booth, as he's off for a regular gig on the MLB Network. And Michael Kay is probably weeping somewhere.
At least the Yankees are back down to a 10 man booth, or whatever it is now.
I wonder how many of us will get the MLB Network without having to add even more channels.
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- MLB Network today announced four new additions to its roster of on-air talent, naming baseball veterans Al Leiter and Harold Reynolds as studio analysts, as well as Trenni Kusnierek and Hazel Mae as reporters. They join Matt Vasgersian, who last week was named studio host and anchor of MLB Tonight, the live, nightly studio show that will be the signature program of the new network, and Hot Stove, a live, nightly off-season studio show. All of the on-air personalities will appear on both shows, as well as other programming across MLB Network, which will launch on January 1, 2009, in approximately 50 million homes as the largest network debut in cable history. "The high caliber of on-air talent that we have been able to secure will ensure that our fans will enjoy informative and entertaining telecasts," said Tony Petitti, President and Chief Executive Officer of MLB Network. "All of the MLB Network personalities have extensive experience covering Major League Baseball and that background will enrich MLB Tonight, Hot Stove, and MLB Network as a whole."
MLB Tonight will air live beginning at 6:00 p.m. Eastern until the final MLB game of the night ends between Monday and Saturday, and will be based out of MLB Network's headquarters in Secaucus, New Jersey. The program will feature live look-ins of games in progress, updates, highlights, reporting and analysis. Hot Stove, will air during the off-season at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Monday through Friday and feature news, reports, and analysis of the moves clubs are making and planning in preparation for the upcoming season.
Leiter spent the past three years as a color commentator for New York Yankees broadcasts on the YES Network. Prior to YES, Leiter worked as a postseason game analyst for FOX Sports, and also did work for ESPN. Leiter pitched for four Major League teams in his 19 year career, including the New York Yankees (1987-89 and 2005), Toronto Blue Jays (1989-95), New York Mets (1998-2004) and Florida Marlins (1996-97 and 2005), finishing with a career record of 162-132 and a lifetime 3.80 ERA. Leiter earned World Series rings with the Blue Jays (1993) and Marlins (1997), was named a National League All-Star in 1996 and 2000 and was the first pitcher to earn a victory against all 30 Major League teams. Leiter received the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevy in 2000 for his community service. Reynolds has been a baseball commentator for MLB.com since 2007, and in 2008 also did studio work for SportsNet New York and TBS as a game analyst for its Sunday baseball telecasts as well as the 2008 MLB Postseason. Reynolds spent 11 years at ESPN, as a studio analyst for Baseball Tonight, and provided analysis for the Little League Baseball World Series and College Baseball World Series for ESPN and ABC Sports. He won a Sports Emmy Award for his work at ESPN in 2003. Reynolds was a two-time All-Star second baseman with the Seattle Mariners and won three Gold Glove awards during a 12 year career (1983-94) playing for the Mariners (1983-92), Baltimore Orioles (1993) and California Angels (1994).
Kusnierek joined FSN Wisconsin in 2008 as a member of the Brewers broadcast team. She spent 2003 to 2007 with FSN Pittsburgh as a sports anchor/reporter. A native of Milwaukee, Kusnierek's sports broadcasting experience has included covering the Super Bowl, two BCS National Championship Games, two MLB All-Star Games and two U.S. Golf Opens. Prior to joining FSN Pittsburgh, Kusnierek spent two years at WDJT-TV 58 in Milwaukee and nine months in the sports department at WQOW-TV in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Mae served as the lead anchor for SportsDesk on the New England Sports Network (NESN) from 2004-08. While at NESN, Mae also served as host of the Red Sox week-in-review program, The Ultimate Red Sox Show, and the Boston Bruins top-ten in-season show, The Buzz. Prior to NESN, Mae anchored the morning edition of Sportsnetnews on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada. In addition to her duties on Sportsnetnews, Mae was the host of JZone, a weekly Toronto Blue Jays magazine show. Mae began her tenure at Rogers Sportsnet providing sports updates to Rogers Sportsnet radio affiliates throughout Ontario.
Projected to launch in approximately 50 million cable and satellite homes on January 1, 2009, MLB Network will be the largest and most successful debut in cable television history, exceeding any other cable television launch by approximately 20 million. With live games, original programming, highlights, classic games, and coverage of baseball events, MLB Network will be the ultimate destination for baseball fans on television.

I called this (sorta). I've been singing Leiter's praises on this board and I said myself that I hope someone recognize this hidden gem and snatch him up.
He was the best guy in the entire roster of YES Analysts....by far.

Leiter apparently will find time to "continue to call some games on the YES Network" according to the blurb I read in the POST today. These guys just cant let it go, if I was MLB.NET I would tell him to make his choice. But as Yankee fans, at least we'll still have him around the booth here and there.

As much as I hate saying this because I love the guy, other than the occasional amusing tale, Paul O'Neill brings absolutely nothing to the broadcasts. And John Flaherty (another guy I like) makes some interesting points but sounds half asleep doing it.
