I don't know that Waldman has ever struck me as being overly professional. Anyone remember the first season at Ultimate Road Trip when she shrieked at the the blond guy (can't remember the name) "I date men younger than you" when he tried to compliment her as an endearing motherly figure.
The other point about Waldman - it's always been the case with the most truly professional, respected, and classy television journalists that they have been able to overcome their regional dialects and accents in order to appear respectable and credible on a national scale. Both Sterling and Kay are eloquent enough and have done much to shed their accents. Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Al Michaels, Dick Enberg - all great sports announcers who have done much to sound as regionally neutral as possible. When I hear regional announcers with heavy regional accents, it reeks of laziness and a lack of commitment to their craft...and ensures that they will never move to the national level. Waldman is small-time, she'll never succeed on a national level, not even as it relates to Yankee-related journalism televised nationwide the way Sterling and Kay have with Centerstage and Yankeeography, respectively.

All she would need to succeed like them is YES to give her a show of her own.
Sterling and Kay are horrible as well.

Ah, come on. She was just having fun there. I found that comment funny. She has her foibles, but now you are just piling on.

I was standing right next to Dave when she shrieked that comment. It's a miracle no one was turned to stone.

She was NOT having fun. She took a compliment as an insult and got genuinely pissed, which you could not see so much on TV, but was totally clear if you were there.

Yeah, I gotta agree. I felt as though she was insulted and really wanted to say something scathing back in order to save face.

So what? I would not begrudge that either. Mickey Mantle was known to swear at fans who heckled him too. Where's your rage on that?
Screaming at a radio guy in full view of other media types does NOT equate with snapping a funny line (even if it is said with malice) back at what amounts to a real idiot in the stands.

Finally found it. I don't know why I wasted my time on Google image searches. I should have gone with YouTube in first place. This is the Keystone Light Beer commercial that features the "bitter beer face" that reminds me SO MUCH of Suzyn Waldman's mug! www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLYxRWjHzwQ

Just driving home from work tonight sometime around mid-9th, and the local ESPN radio guys started discussing the game and The Yankees in general. I was amused to hear them, morning-zoo style, play Waldman shrieking "Goodness Gracious" over and over and really just lambasting the Waldman-Sterling Duo.

Let them laugh....thats why they are "local ESPN radio guys" and Waldman and Sterling are announcing for the number one franchise in all of sports. Sounds to me the joke is on the "local ESPN radio guys."

Ohh come on Tom. What is this...this old "You can't make fun of those idiots...only I can make fun of those idiots...they're MY idiots" gag?
Gimme a break...if Waldman doesn't deserve some chiding for being over-the-top then who does?

The last half of the 8th and the 9th are the best times of the game, when listening on the radio. Waldman leaves the booth.

Those who work in offices can aprreciate this:
Day games are a blast to watch when YES replays them. Its like watching a new game. You get the game that happened in Sterling's world on 880 in the afternoom and then what really happened later on that night

come on give Sterling some love, I wanna be a broadcaster when I get older and I really idol Sterling and Michael Kay, Sterling brings energy and excitement to broadcasting unlike some broadcasters, even tho Sterling mis judges some plays at times, but he's still very exciting, I entered the John Sterling impersonation homerun contest, and I hope I become one of the finalist, so wish me luck.

If you want to be a broadcaster, you need a better idol than a drunk who cares more about his catchphrases than the game itself.

I am not a big fan of John Sterling either. Considering the quality (and baseball experience) that some other teams' radio hosts bring to the table (listen to a Padres game with Jerry Coleman and then try listening to Sterling and Waldman), it's embarrassing. The two of them together are abysmal.
However, unlike many of you, I am a fan of Michael Kay. I like his TV work...ESPECIALLY with Al Leiter. I wish Kay and Leiter did all 162 games. They are funny.

I like Kay also, but I also like Sterling, I like his catch phrases and homeruns calls, I mean listen to other radio broadcasters and how dull some of them are.

Michael Kay is as good as who he's paired with. Leiter and O'Neill should always be in the booth with him. That should be the A team with Singleton and Flaherty as the B team.
I don't see how you can take John Sterling seriously as a huge yankee fan. Once in a while when there's a big HR and he does the "it is high..." routine it feels right and you get into it but when he splooges all over the mic when Cano makes a good play it gets silly. He's so much more about his sound bytes and catchphrases than he is about calling the games. Also, whatever happened to the homer broadcaster. The only guy left seems to be the one from the White Sox.

As to Sterling not being "boring" - sometimes, especially on the radio, boring is whats better. Its about the game, weaving the tapestry of what is on the field to the listener. We dont need a guy singing snippets of Broadway show tunes. And this is no fault of his or that pig Waldman, but more to the network - the fact that a Yankee broadcast is nothing but a 3 plus hour advertising feed for every product sold in the city does not help the flow of things either.
As to the Yankee A and B TV teams, Singleton is the most solid guy in that booth, along with Leiter. Really has grown on me. Flaherty sounds just like Paulie, they are interchangable, and neither bring much. Kay is being overrated on this board. I would listen to any of the others before him, and when I turn on those "B games" in KC or something and hear he is not there, I rejoice.

I agree about Singleton. I can't stand either Sterling or Kay.

Leiter is good because he and Kay playfully rag on eachother and it's funny. Leiter, unlike Singleton, isn't so concerned with being so "proper" and he'll speak off the cuff, make a crack here and there, and talk shit about other players (although it's always implicit).
Leiter and Kay are solid! I wouldn't mind doing away with the others altogether in favor of these two.
But Sterling....well, I agree. He's just not credible and you can't take the guy seriously. Listening to Sterling do a game is almost like watching sports with a new girlfriend, and having to field a series of inane comments....only with the girl it's forgivable and somewhat charming...with Sterling he knows JUST ENOUGH about baseball to be annoying.

Sterling on Saturday (forgot which Yankee hit the ball): Swung on and drilled DEEEEEEEEEP to center field ... Rios ... comes in a few steps and makes the catch.

Good Lord, Suzyn Waldman is just unbelievable. She reminds me of that old USSR newspaper "Pravda" which loosely translates to "The Truth."
Pravda was nothing but a propaganda rag which justified and rubber stamped all of the Kremlin's politics.
Suzyn Waldman is the Yankees' Pravda. She just finished telling us radio listeners how we don't really understand how important Roger Clemens was to this team this year and how "behind the scenes" he contributed more than we could ever know and more than earned his hefty paycheck. Then she went on to tell us how 3 days rest for Wang, as opposed to any other pitcher in the universe, is actually better.
This chick is HORRIBLE!

How bout Suzyn Waldman crying like a baby on the postgame last night? The FAN is having a wonderful time with it this morning. Add that to her screaming orgasm when Clemens made his "surprise" visit to the booth to trumpet his return, and its been a vaunted year for that crone.

Colin Cowherd, this morning, called the team of Sterling and Waldman and their performance last night "shills at their shilliest" - he actually did pretty funny impersonation of them.
They are horrible.
