Look who posts in the basketball threads on Section39.com: Myself, WhalerFan and Stewbagel are sort of rational. Then, you have Tone and Gandhi. Enough said.

I'm very happy that Mullin is one of the names listed on the HOF ballot. He truly deserves it. It would be great if he makes the cut. I'll have to go out there if, in fact, he does get inducted.
I've followed his whole career from SJU to GS to Indiana. I even have an authentic Warriors jersey with his name and numbers. Wore it out to the bleachers a few times and without fail the "Warriors, come out and pla-a-a-a-a-a-y" chant comes out with Steroid Brian's rendition of Cyrus' speech from the classic movie.
Regardless, a class act and one of the best sharpshooters ever in the game. Now, if only SJU can get back to being an elite team in the Big East.

Yeah he probably belongs since it takes college, and NBA into account...imo

I heard a quote one time stating that if there had been a three pointer in the Big East when Mullin played, he may have broken Pistol Pete's scoring record.

A pretty high percentage of his shots were from right around where the college three-point line currently resides.

1. get a new keyboard, they are $20 2. Mullin is the man.... also born on 7/30 like me.... and we went to Saint John's, and are addicted to beer.

It was at work. I'm not spending $20 bucks for a new keyboard for the company I work for. It happened just then.
That is all.

Eh, not really directed at you, so my apologies. More at the fact that the basketball thread, much like every other thread, turns into an insult-fest, and the latest feud happened to involve you and Tone.

Yet with the insults that fly between the two of us there IS actual basketball criticism going on.
its not all just insults if you read between the lines.

"I heard a quote one time stating that if there had been a three pointer in the Big East when Mullin played, he may have broken Pistol Pete's scoring record."
Not neccessarily true. Think how many lay-ups and short jumpers would've been wiped off his records if he settled for a three-point attempt.

I think the point attempting to be made was that a lot of the shots he routinely took and made while at St. John's were at three-point range.

And I think he would have gotten better short-range shots because there would have been much MORE emphasis on defending him on the perimeter if the shots were worth an extra point.

This comment by Celtic radio analyst Cedric Maxwell I am reading about in the Daily News is a hoot and a half. After female ref Violet Palmer flubbed yet another call (I am no basketball booster but I heard she is an AWFUL ref) Maxwell snapped, "Go back in the kitchen. Go in there and make me some bacon and eggs, would you?"
Of course the heat is on, and an apology followed last night on the air.

My favorite yarn of this ilk was Frazier at the Garden, who quipped after a woman fan at courtside took a ball off the noggin something to the effect of, "there she was, talking nonstop just like a woman does, not even looking at the court, and she got hit in the face...." or some such thing.
That is what women do, by the way. Talk like way too much.

Gotta give props and an honorable mention to the man whose pic is at the top of this thread. His Golden State Warriors defeat the #1 seed Dallas Mavericks. First time ever a #8 beats a #1. Good for him and that team. I also think Nellie had something to do with it, since he used to coach Dallas. I like Dallas more than San Antonio, Houston, the Lakers and some of those other west coast teams but if it comes at the hands of the Warriors, hey, I'm all for it. Congrats boys!!!! Let's see if they can win the next round now.

The third quarter was one of the most lopsided quarters I've ever seen in the NBA playoffs. Golden State looked like Duke playing against C.W. Post.

No doubt. I don't see the Nets winning a game seven in Toronto.

Except for Mutombo and the Nuggets beating the Rain Man and the Sonics in '94.
And the Knicks beating the Heat in '99.
First time #8 beats a #1 in the 2- or 3-year history of a best-of-7 first round, maybe.

It's 9:28AM PST (12:28PM EST) - for those of you interested in the recent Kobe/Lakers drama, Stephen A. Smith is going to have Kobe on live on 1050AM in just a few.

Well, so far Kobe is singing a different story than he did on the local LA ESPN Radio affiliate last night. He's been markedly vague about his future with the Lakers next season and has said "I don't know" quite a bit when talking about his future.
WHOA!!!! Man, Kobe must have come to some epiphanies in his sleep. Smith's final question, "Is there anything the Los Angeles Lakers can do to make you want to remain with them next season?
Kobe's answer - "No, bro!"
