But how many points?
The killer is Tom coming up with the standings, but his printout cutting off before the totals.

Of course it did. I was just printing a snippet for my own personal scrapbook. It was not my job to keep the archives. Last I checked it was yours.

Yes, and I fucked up. But it's your league, and you should have read more carefully.
You really dropped the ball on that one Tom.

Justin.... You didn't play sec 39 fantasy football last season? Why ? Couldn't stand the possibility of losing to me 2 years in a row? You won the semi-final ? Oh ... so you lost the championship? Sorry. And it just happens that I also had former Bronco Ron Dayne on my team, but my team won the $$$$$$. It happens, people do get lucky twice. LIke I said before, a big % of it is luck... you were lucky twice...more power to you. If you were that "good", you wouldn't finish 9th the following year......maybe 2nd or 3rd or 4th.....but not 9th.....9th or 10th or 11th are for the (one year wonders), guys like me (and Larry---the heavy preseason favorite, who finished 10th one year after winning this thing) Good gm's always keep their teams near the top ..... see Evan and his hookers. As for the moves you made the years you won, is not the Santanas and Lidges that win this league. Is the guy you pick up in the 15th round (after yelling "motherfucker" at the draft, because somebody just took your guy) and you go with option B and he turns out to be a fantasy stud. Every year the team that finishes last has a Santana or A-rod or Reyes or Pujols or someone like that in it. Believe it or not people don't draft Bernie in the first round. Is not the 1st or 2nd round pick that wins this league, it may be getting lucky like I did when I drafted Papelbon last year (with my 25th pick?) and he becoming a great closer or picking up Verlander in the 3rd week of the season and becoming a very important part of my team, those are the moves that help you win this league (or at least they helped me) Of course, since you are (were?) that good, you didn't get lucky.... you just used the 25 guys you drafted and all them turned into superstars. Admit it, it takes a great deal of luck (most of the times) and some research and dedication to win..... not to mention that you have to be lucky with injuries also. But of course, not in your case because you were that much better that everyone else (specially me). Maybe you should become a scout for the Yanks. As for me drafting BERNIE..... you know the reason, probably all of you know the reason..... he is my favorite Yankee.... I knew he was going to be worthless to my team, BUT I figured in the 25th round who cares I didn't really have anybody that "great" in mind anyway so I picked him. Basically is the same shit as you picking Josh Bard and dropping his ass on opening day at the first chance you had. (at least Bernie was the honorary "CAPITAN" of my team) As for the money.... we all know that .... you don't have to keep on saying it. Problem is.... this is like going to AC with one of your friends, withing the first 15 minutes you win $2500. 1 hour later you are down to $1800, 2 hours later you are down to $600 and by the time you have to go home you lost the $2500 and the $1000 you came with. At the same time your friend lost $990 of his $1000 during the first couple of hours but at the last minute he won $3000 and went home with $3010.....Watch it, you don't want to be the guy that went home $1000 down!!!! I am really glad we are keeping the other league members entertained, maybe that way Suzy gets all caught up in this and forgets to put her lineup in for a week or something and that way we all have a chance at this thing... For the record Huevos = eggs and COJONES = testicles Cojonudo is a person that has the cojones to back up his shit....... So far you are not a COJONUDO, but you are AFORTUNADO and SUERTUDO, that is 90% of the reason you are the only 2 time champ.... for now As for you Mr Larry........ I didn't know you wanted to be cheerleader that bad..... call Paula Abdul or whatever her name is, she may give you some tips. Larry repeat after me ....give me a J, give me a U..... ADIOS

Hard to believe it, but we could be seeing a miracle on par with the 1980 US victory in hockey over the USSR in the Olympics. Laura is actually in first place in the session, and her team is currently playing like a heavyweight in this league.
She is now within 40 points of Neil in 11th. In less than 2 weeks, she has made almost 200 points up on 11th place.
Tom, who finished in second in 2005, gets the booby prize tonight, with only 8 points. Brett Myers managed to get him a nice -8 in just 0.2 innings worth of work.
Laura--520 Suzy--511.67 Knoblauch--457.67 Justin--439.67 Jose--423.67 Tom--412.67 Pops-403.33 Evan--376 Capone--375.33 Milton--346.33 Larry--338.67 Neil--329.33

I have to be honest with you, Jose. I didn't read most of your post. It looked like the same drivel you've been posting, so I didn't really read that chapter of a book. Might have had to do with the fact that I become less impressed with what you post with every effort you make. Just being honest.
I will tell you that I didn't play Sec 39 football last year because I live in Pittsburgh, and I couldn't make the draft.
As for the rest of what I scanned (but I admit, I didn't bother reading fully), I can only say that, again, it takes a lot more luck in a head-to-head football league than in a points-based league, and wasting a roster spot on an "honorary captain" instead of someone that maybe can actually help your team in a big-money league shows that, when it boils down to it, you don't really know what you're doing. And if it wasn't for Laura, you'd probably be the first former champion to be relegated. As a defending champion, no less. Although even Laura's team is improving. Yours isn't.
Your team stinks, but I hope you don't get relegated. I like having players like you around.

*Even* Laura's team is improving? Leave me out of this! My current place in the standings is not representative of the abilities of my players, dammit.

Justin.... we all know you read the "book"...just decided to take the wasy way out..... same as with the bottle..... by now I understand, no big deal
My point is very simple, luck is as important as strategy and drafting and anything else, obviously you want to make us believe that you won because you are better or know more......I do not agree (and since this is the US and not Cuba or China I have the right to disagree)......
We'll leave at that ..... I got lucky (I ADMIT IT) and you won 2 times because you are much better than the competition....
I allready told you, Bernie got as many points for my team (0) as your 25th pick (Bard) got for your (0).... at least my guy is retired
Now, let me see If I could spend some of this time that I'm wasting writing this "books" trying to improve my 10th place team.....
While there is life there is hope....back to back to back to back and belly to belly to belly to belly .........
Suzy I don't mean this is a bad way.... but can like 4 of your starters get hurt so that we can all have a shot at this??

No.
I studied too, by the way. On the plane to and from Vegas. My drafted team has done and I have been lucky that none of the essential guys have gotten hurt.

Bard got me 0 points, but he was a useful part of my team. I drafted him because if Piazza was hurt before the start of the season, I would have a catcher Week 1. So, in other words, I made use of my 25th pick. You drafted a guy who the only thing he was playing was guitar at the Beacon, along with Matt Garza (still in the minors) and Mark Prior (LOL).
Do I know more? Well, I knew enough not to draft Bernie and Prior.

Post by area51 on May 24, 2007 21:56:36 GMT -5
Yeah I took a lot of chances of some very risky guys (Clemmens, Pedro, Prior, Garza ), but guess what, last year I took chances on people that were coming back from injuries and they paid off )
Let's put it this way, if my sorry ass team finishes better than your team, that should be a low point in your fantasy career.... you got beat by a team that only drafted 24?, 23?, 22? players.....
And by the way, next season I WILL DRAFT BERNIE IN THE 25th ROUND AGAIN (if my team doesn't finish last).
You can't get lucky all the time.....
Now, the season is not over yet, If some of these guys come back the way I'm hoping I may still have a shot.... only time will tell, BUT is too early for the NEW JOSE to throw in the towel....the old JOSE will have given up by now....
JUST FOR THE RECORD, I'm not disputing that I'm better than you or anything like that, that will be stupid on my part, you have finished ahead of me every year except for one, that is not what this discussion is about, is about the fact that you made it sound like you won because you are good, when in reality we know you may be good BUT YOU ALSO VERY LUCKY......
As of now I hope not to answer anymore of your attacks and I'm going to put a little more effort in making sure that my SORRY ASS TEAM passes your "great team"....we are now at X = 31 points.......10-4

Final update from me for awhile. In the unlikely event the standings aren't sent my way, this will be the end of this session, though I'm confident all will proceed as normal.
Tom, please don't update the overall standings thread. Keep the standings there as I have them. Everyone in the league can always see the overalls on Yahoo.
Though she didn't have a good night by any stretch, Suzy did manage to top Laura by 10 or so points to retake the session lead, barely. We're in for a cool finish, as Suzy has 2 starters going and Laura has 3, including her ace Ted Lilly.
Evan, aka Mr. Bronze, is back in his familiar 3rd place again as he had the largest point total of the day. Laura's 11 points earns her the booby prize of the day.
So here are the standings.
This session will be finalized when I get back, though I'm sure you'll know who won well before I do.
Suzy--532.67 Laura--531 Justin--464.67 Jose--455.67 Knoblauch--449.67 Tom--442.67 Pops--438.33 Evan--427 Capone--400 Milton--367.33 Neil--367 Larry-362.67

BUT YOU ALSO VERY LUCKY......
I truly believe this league is much more about skill (ie a nose for talent and production) then it is about luck.

No one unfortunately. Tom is going to monitor it and hopefully no one will fuck up. If there is a mistake, you'll have to reverse it on your own.

I'd like to take this time to thank Balls for jinxing my ace, Ted Lilly, & handing this session to Suzy... with a negative outing by Lilly last night, I have no chance. I do have two starts today, but Morris is due for a lackluster performance after the gem he pitched earlier this week & I thought Zambrano was starting to get his thing back, but I think I put him in too soon...
Suzy-- 581.67 Laura-- 562.67 Tom-- 508.33 Justin-- 504.67 Knoblauch-- 504 Jose-- 498.67 Pops-- 490.99 Evan-- 490 Capone-- 446 Larry- 409.67 Neil-- 399 Milton-- 395

Not stepping on Laura's toes here, but I was online, so I figured I'd update the standings. Here are your FINAL Session 4 Standings. Congratulations to Suzy for winning her second consecutive session and for further confirming the driving force behind the championship season of 2003.
Also, congratulations to the ladies for taking 1-2 in the session, marking the first time that females have occupied the top 2 slots in a session in this league's history. Rose would be proud. Girl power. Bra burning celebration in the quad tomorrow.
FINAL SESSION 4 STANDINGS:
Suzy -- 643.67 Laura -- 618 Tom -- 545.33 Evan -- 541 Justin -- 533 Knobjob -- 531 Pops -- 522.32 Jose -- 521.67 Capone -- 513 Neil -- 486 Milton -- 454 Larry -- 443

I see that the standings were updated, though I have Justin slightly off by a few points here and there. He did get the most important stats right on the money though. The top two finishers were not only the two ladies in the league, but they kicked the living shit out of the guys.
You people need to watch an Arnold movie or something.
