"Remember Brad Halsey?" So, that means that I gave him too much credit when I compared him to Branden Claussen?

And Rasner does the job again. Making the most of the opportunity, thus far. Did more in 2 games than Hughes/Kennedy did in 12.

Speaking of good jobs, Bart Colon had another strong performance for the Pawsox yesterday. I bring him up because he would have been yet another cheap option hanging on the vine to be plucked and fill out the back-end of someones rotation. As in the Yankee rotation...

Colon is garbage. I'd rather have Rasner, who has done well so far.

if his ERA is lower than 9, then he is better than Hughes and kennedy. they belong in the minors at least another year.

I think Hughes needs to be an MLB pitcher at this point, but I agree Kennedy needs more time until he shows otherwise.

I think Hughes needs to be a major league pitcher at this point TOO.....for the Minnesota Twins or the Oakland A's.

He may pan out, but shouldn't be in the Bronx. Unfortunately, the Yankees put a lot of eggs in his basket, and he's dropped them.

Huh???
For what reasons?
He sucks right now. He has to get it together, and this roster does not have the convenience of letting him do it at the major league level. He cant keep sacrificing games.
Again, he was the youngest pitcher in the AL - which explains a lot. No way is he ready, he looked awful.

I'm far more concerned with Hughes' inability to stay healthy than his readiness for the majors.

yeah, I thought you were concerned more with Santana and his being washed up due to injury.

Not anymore. Not our problem. He was not pitching to his expectations in the second half of last year. He's in a pitcher's park in the NL. Much easier. But either way, you can't judge this deal in May 2008. Maybe in May 2011 we can have a better idea if Cashman made the right call.
And Chris--given that he has yet another 2 month injury, it is something to be worried about. Given his age, it's too early to call him brittle, but geez.

I know that, but it wasn't really warranted. It's still too early in his career for it to be warranted, but at the same time, it's definitely time to be concerned.

Balls, what have you, been sleeping under a rock? Oh wait, you couldnt be...you would not be able to watch Different Strokes marathons if you were.
We ripped Hughes as made of tape and staples for years. Why do you think the Yankees had him on pitch counts that had other scouts and teams laughing?
The guy is trouble.

Again, other scouts laughed so hard that every single team in baseball wants him.

Mark Prior wonders why Phil Hughes is handled with kid gloves.

Mark Prior may be one the REASONS Phil Hughes is handled with kid gloves.

Bottom line - if the guy NEEDS to be handled with kid gloves, he is no help to the Yankees right now.
Thats not what we need. Let him play with his pitch counts in AA.

So one half of the two-headed monster returns on Thursday night vs. Tampa. Ian Kennedy only pitched an inning tonight and will be called back up. That means Rasner pitches Friday. Jw

Agreed. The last person I want to see is Igawa. But I don't believe one solid AAA start means Kennedy is "cured." I AM happy, however, that I'll get to see Rasner pitch Friday.

One start in AAA doesn't mean a thing. Igawa is just that bad. They should have let Kennedy have a full start down there and if he did well, THEN look to call him up again. Maybe use someone like Steven White Thursday if he was available.

While I too would have preferred to see White, the Yankees are rightfully gun-shy, as every time they have gone with kids on the hill this year it has bitten them in the ass. So they are bringing back the Devil they know, in Kennedy, rather than run out a possible Devil they don't.

Kennedy will start Friday against the Mets. Holy shit, what was that minor league sting...a dog and pony show?
Don't look now, but Clay Bucholz is having the same kinds of troubles.
