This one is just, like, wow. You know these polls are over a decade old, cause this would just not fly today. And how does one formulate a "favorite tribe?"
FAVORITE INDIAN TRIBE
Iroquois 28% Apache 17% Sioux 15% Kiowa 13% Pawnee 9% Cherokee 7% Comanche 6%

The Cherokee are really slumping in the polls.

I would have thought the Cherokee would have placed higher, simply due to name recognition. That folk band sang that song that went, "Cherokee people......Cherokee tribe" or some such.

I like the Pima. Ira Hayes was a member of the Pima tribe.

That poll is East Coast biased.
What about the Inca's, the Mayans, and the Aztecs.

Those are not fun Indians. You know, the kind hopped up on demon rum, riding horses in circles around a fire, shooting stolen pistols in the air, going "Hayayayayayhayaha" while patting their mouths with their hands, wearing moccassins and crying when they see garbage on the side of the road.

You're saying the Aztecs were not fun?
What's not fun about them?
The Aztec smoked and chewed tobacco, and possibly drank infusions of the plant to induce visions. Certain rites and ceremonies required the use of tobacco. One dedicated to Tlaloc involves chewing tobacco to enter an altered state:
In another ritual a priest would climb a mountain naked and painted black, carrying fir boughs and a conch trumpet. He would chew tobacco and periodically blow the horn. After piercing his ears and thighs with spines to let blood, he would retrace his steps stumbling.

I pick the Apache! For our mutual appreciation of sitting outside in the dark chewing on peyote.

Whoever wins that poll, I hope it's not the tribe belonging to the guy who cries on the side of the road while looking at litter.
What a pansy liberal.

Going to drop the polls from the archives for the day, cause there was one in todays USA TODAY that made me chuckle.
HOW TEEN DROPOUTS ARE LIKELY LIVING "Most teens - 74% - say they know a high-school dropout. What they say the dropouts are doing."
Raising a child 54% Unemployed 48% In a Gang 39% Working Low Pay Job 19 % Dead 12% Successful Career 10%
LOL @ "Dead." Eh, question mentions how they are likely living. And nearly half are in a gang???

I'm with Tom on this: 39% in gangs seems a wee bit high.

Whoever wins that poll, I hope it's not the tribe belonging to the guy who cries on the side of the road while looking at litter. What a pansy liberal. 1. He's dead 2. I believe he wasn't even an Indian. (my bad, it was only insinuated that Iron Eyes Cody was not) 3. I met him

Comanches are Southwest peoples & they kick ass. Personally, Shinnecock are my favorite indians & I am offended that they are not on the list.
Funny thing about the dropout poll is that all of the high school dropouts I have met personally fall into one of 2 categories: (A) More successful (better paying and more stable jobs) than the vast majority of college graduates I know (B) Qualified as permanently disabled due to severe and persistent mental illness
The number of people I know in category B might have something to do with my career choice...

Here's another dumb one with a lot of surprises.
LEAST FAVORITE BUG
Worm 22% Cricket 17% Roach 15% Spider 13% Fly 12% Beetle 10% Ant 7% Mosquito 4%

Post by Chris on Apr 27, 2009 12:37:18 GMT -5
Roach BY FAR!

Post by elliejay21 on Apr 29, 2009 11:01:16 GMT -5
Are you kidding??? Worm??? Roach should top list by far... although flies, mosquitos & ants are pretty annoying.
Where are the other more nefarious and insidious pests, like bed bugs, lice, maggots, fleas, wasps/hornets/yellow jackets??? All WAY worse than everything on that list aside from roaches and spiders!!!

So this one is dumb, and never should have seen the light of day. Appeared this week in USA TODAY in the MONEY section, a fun little poll about wether or not "your boss" plays video games on work time.
HAVE YOU CAUGHT YOUR BOSS PLAYING COMPUTER GAMES DURING WORK HOURS?
YES 7% NO 93%
Um....wtf? Why bother printing these results? If they were the other way around, maybe....I think what happened here is someone said, "great idea for a poll....lets prove that bosses waste time just like the workers do" and when the results came back the other way, they were like, "ah, what the Hell, lets run it anyway."

This is another wack one. Keep in mind, like most of the polls I put up, its over a decade old, before 9/11 and other issues that bought Patriotism to the forefront for many.
MOST ENDEARING PATRIOTIC SYMBOL
Mt Rushmore 23% Fireworks 18% The Flag 15% Statue of Liberty 14% Eagle 12% Eternal Flame 6% White House 5% George Washington 3% Eh....
Mount Rushmore wins? Really? Really? And LOL @ George Washington getting votes, and the Flag finishing 3rd, behind friggin' fireworks!

I want to go there too, but I keep thinking about what I would do when I got there. I would look at it and think, "cool, I'm at Mount Rushmore." Five minutes later I would be bored.
