Over 10 years ago I had a source that would provide stupid daily polls from around the country. It was almost like a Fark.com for polls. Sometimes I see dumb polls in USA Today, and I may put them up here for public consumption as they do them daily and thats my paper of choice again. But, for now, I found my printouts of the dumbest polls from back then in an old workplace folder, and here you go.
Some are dated, we are talking 10 years ago. But some of these results are just dumb.
FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAY
Great catch 19 % Stolen base 17 % Home run 15% Strikeout 13% Squeeze play 12% Double play 10% Triple 7% Inside Park HR 5 % Double 3% Brawl 2 %
1,202 "baseball fans" polled
Ok, then....great catch is the favorite baseball play of this polling group? I like great catches too, but wowza. LOL @ a double getting votes. I bet if more people were thinking, brawl would have scored higher. From what I understand, no answers were provided.

Honest? The Money section is very informative, especially for a financial neophyte like myself. They have a regular telecom column, advertising stuff, things like that. The sports section does not need to be defended, especially when it comes to baseball. Thats half the paper right there.
The LIFE section is what it is. They actually have cool reviews, they even reviewed the latest Lamb of God and Exodus albums in there! As to the news, its just quirky stories from around the country that I find more informative and interesting than yet another mugger shot someone dead in the NYC streets story.
I dont read it for its politics, or op-ed pieces. I find it a fun and breezy read.

Who in their right mind would say that their "favorite" baseball play is a stolen base? They can be somewhat exciting, but who goes to a game eager to see stolen bases?

I can't wait for tonight's game. I really, really hope I see a ground ball to the right side that advances a runner to third!

Well, I will say this - when someone breaks for second on a stolen base, people hop to their feet. Of course, they do that for a home run too....Im just glad "triple play" did not appear on here, cause hardly anyone has really seen one.
For that matter, for 12% to say squeeze play....how many of those have 1000 baseball fans at random seen to make that a vote?

Could be worse things magically showing up outside your hotel room door.

This might sound stupid....but to me, there is nothing cooler in baseball than a nice breaking pitch that drops in for a called strike three with the batter looking, never taking the bat off his shoulders.
That is such an "IN YOUR FACE" moment for the hitter....especially when you see one of those knee-buckling Barry Zito like big curves cause the hitter to lurch backward out of fear of getting plunked, and then that thing just nose-dives down into the strike zone.
That is AWESOME!

A late umpire call at home, when everyone is waiting, is pretty funny.
Gang Bang Steve and I caught a hoot over this one. It can be seen to this day, if you go back and watch the Gooden no-hitter. At one point he has 2 strikes on some chucklehead, and throws a swooping strike 3. Yet the umpire waits it out, then calls a ball. The crowd goes bezerk, the massive boo that erupted makes us laugh every time. Play it over and over for fun and games.

I love watching games with Tim McClelland behind the plate.
Everyone gets SO frustrated with the delayed calls...it's funny.

I agree on the curve that freezes the batter. One addition to make it one of my favorites- the batter turns and starts walking towards the dugout before the ump even makes his called third strike. He just knows he's been had.

I like it when a fan falls out of the sky and lands in the netting over the catcher. Seen it twice. Fans running on the field--always funny.

i enjoy a close play at a base and the ump does the old quick-hop-step-point-to-the-bag and yell "you're out!" gag

Anyone remember, or seen clips of, late ump Ron Luciano "shooting down the runner" with an imaginary gun when he was nipped on a close play on the basepaths?

One that met a tragic end. Suicide, by carbon monoxide. Another tortured comic genuis. Ron Luciano's multiple baseball tomes are hilarious.

This is another baseball related poll, with maybe even stupider answers than the rest. Once again, "baseball fans" were polled.
"Outside of player / coach, most interesting baseball stadium job"
Grounds Crew 22% Mascot 17% Organist / Sounds 15% Broadcaster 13% Public Address 11% Batboy / Girl 9% Scoreboard Ops 7% Vendor 4%
Ok, where does one start with this?? Reporters seem to have missed the cut - guess people prefer dragging a rake or picking up players underwears, or pushing a button to play a "BOING!" noise on a foul into the crowd.

Grounds Crew? WTF?
The answer is CLEARLY broadcaster. Aside from the players themselves, who do fans revere more than their home team's broadcasters?
Say what you want about Kay ... I like him. I loved Rizzuto. Dodger fans may love Scully more than the team itself.

I guess maybe grounds crew gets to go on the field??? Welll, so do broadcasters, I suppose. WTF. Mascot? Most teams dont even screw around with mascots. Maybe these polls were done at minor league games.

Heres another dumb one, keeping with the baseball theme. Again, over 1000 "baseball fans" polled. Simple topic, favorite "Baseball food." And no, hot dogs did NOT win - they did not even finish 2nd!!!!
Feel free to expound, and add your own.
FAVORITE BASEBALL FOOD
Nachos 26% Cracker Jacks 19% Hot Dogs 17% Pretzels 12% Sausage 9% Knish 8 % Peanuts 6 % Cotton Candy 3%
