Hey, why we talking the Jericho book in the 24/7 thread?
The book is still getting high marks across the board, but since it came out there have been a lot of people punching holes in a bunch of the stories in it. Jericho had a bad habit of hearing a story, then putting it in his book like he was there. For example, the stuff about Balls Mahoney in that apartment....eh, Balls was there months after Jericho was already gone. A couple of other wrestlers, one of whom was D-Lo Brown, found the roaches in the bed, and Jericho claimed the story as his own.
Lots of those sorts of stories, apparently.

Not a big deal...you can retort to my post about the supposed liberties Jericho took in the book here, or there, or nowhere, if you choose.
No comment on the 1980 MSG card, Cap? Baron Mikel Sicluna, Jose Estrada, Bulldog Brower, Pat Patterson teaming with Andre against Bobby Duncum and Ken Patera, Tito Santana vs Hulk Hogan, it goes on and on.
And dont forget folks...BLACK SATURDAY! The episode where the WWF took over the slot on TBS.....I already have all that on tape, but if you have not seen it...well, fun fun!

UWF ON ESPN CLASSIC By: Jay Shannon 1/8/2008 8:10:44 AM
ESPN Classic is running the mid 90's version of the UWF (not the Bill Watts version), nightly, on ESPN Classic at 10 PM. Two 30 minute shows are presented. So far, they've shown Billy Jack Haynes, Ken Patera, Cactus Jack (Mick Foley), David Sammartino, and Ivan and Nikita Koloff. Commentary features Bruno Sammartino. The video production is on par with the old AWA/ESPN shows. It's a great flashback for old-timers (lie myself) and a interesting introduction to the past to those who may not have been around during 1995 (the listed production date).

I had been meaning to post about it. I actually I have it set in my DVR. Its pretty ghetto, from all accounts. But I like some of the names who were in and out of that promotion.

So guys, check it out. The 2/15/86 version of NWA Saturday Night. Not only does the team of Ron Bass and Don Kernodle give The Midnight Express a whipping, leading Jim Cornette to get his men intentionally disqualified with a tennis racquet swing in front of the ref, but you get to see a pre-Big Bubba/Bossman Ray Traylor.
Traylor takes on Tully and loses clean, and Tully even gets him up for that suplex where he bounces him off the top rope first. Tony and JJ Dillon were putting over Traylor on the mic, as a big boy with lots of gumption. But he looked like a total slob, in his dated ringwear and his straggly hair. This was not long at all before his morphing into Big Bubba and the start of a more salvagable career for him.
Its also funny to see Dusty Rhodes present the Rock and Roll Express with a cage to keep Cornette in, above the ring, and out of their business. Dusty said he found the cage in some exotic place, where some "strange things were going on inside" or some such. Hey now!
The backstory of all this is fun, at this point. Dusty was booking then, and sticking himself into ALL the angles, and taking heat away from all the other popular guys. He would be out with Magnum, Ron Garvin, the Rock and Rolls, whoever was in a hot program. He was stealing thunder. Ron Garvin in particular has shredded him since, for this. So when you watch Dusty out there stealing spotlight to the smililng guys next to him, know they thought he was an idiot the whole time.

Watched the first half of the MSG Card from January 85 last eve. Noteworthy in that it was Brett Hart's MSG debut, and he had a good scientific battle with the crafty Rene Goulet. Went on for a quite a while, as well. Another match I enjoyed was Don "Magnificent" Muraco battling the rawboned vet Swede Hansen. Big Swede had the crowd popping as he was throwing soupbones, but Muraco took the duke.
Just before bed, the final match i capped the eve off with was Blackjack Mullligan with wavy permy hair vs the always entertaining Moondog Spot, who two decades later dropped in the ring during an Indy show working for Jerry Lawler, and died shortly afterwards.

Good ole "hairy knucks" Swede hanson and I loved when Gorilla Moonson used to refer to Moondog Spot as "Spotty"..Haven't watched the card yet though I enjoyed yet another solid legends Roundtable...By far my favorite show that 24/7 offers......

In March on WWE 24/7, the Hall of Fame segment will be on Bret Hart, the Legends of Wrestling segment will talk about the origin of Wrestlemania plus they'll air Wrestlemanias 2, 9 and 18. 2 and 9 were horrible. Old cards include a Hogan vs. Ted DiBiase show taped in Houston, a Savage vs. Tito Santana and Bruno Sammartino vs. Superstar Graham shows from MSG and they also have the only time Hulk Hogan ever faced Steve Austin, on the 3/11/02 Raw in a trios match with Austin & Rock vs. Hogan & Scott Hall & Kevin Nash. www.wrestlingobserver.com

As mentioned on Raw, HHH was dealing with a family emergency and missed both last night's show, as well as next week's taping. He was not at the building last night in Austin, TX.
Due to this week's tour of Alaska, South Korea and Japan, the 2/11 edition of Raw was taped last night, as WWE didn't want to record the show in Japan and send it back to the US via satellite next week. It's possible a HHH promo could be inserted before the program airs next Monday as H is involved in one of the top matches on the 2/17 No Way Out PPV and next week's Raw is the go-home show.
At this time, we have not heard whether H's emergence will affect his participation on the tour.

IS WWE 24/7 AN OPTION FOR SMACKDOWN? By: Bob Ryder 2/18/2008 8:57:54 AM
As WWE continues to search for a new home for Smackdown when the show ends its run on CW in September, one possibility that hasn't been talked about publically might actually be the best option.
WWE 24/7 continues to grow and WWE is in discussions with several cable systems about adding the service to their lineups. Smackdown could be the draw WWE needs to convince more systems to add 24/7. Having a first run brand show like Smackdown as the flagship for 24/7 would surely boost subscriptions and could be the carrot needed to convince systems not currently carrying the service to add it.
If it doesn't happen this time, it's an option WWE might consider at some point in the future.

All you have to do is watch and listen to the 5 minutes of the Manny Fernandez and Don Muraco match for the Florida Championship on the Don Muraco's HoF piece this month to know and understand why bar none Gordon Solie is leaps and bounds the best announcer ever...No one is even in the same stratosphere as him..........

The 24/7 Smackdown idea is thankfully not a considered option, and the piece you cite is really just Bob Ryder throwing it out there as an idea. There are now 2 "finalists" - one being the MyNet channels, and the other being WGN. Thats a superstation of sorts, based out of Chicago.....but not everyone has it.
Word is the MyNet channels will win out, and Smackdown will simply move back to Channel 9 for most of us.
Agreed on Gordon. I have hours of Georgia stuff on tape, and he is a joy to listen to. Some are pushing for him to go into the WWE Hall, but apparently he and the McMahons did not get along well, so its unlikely. But this would have been a good year to do it, based in Florida as Mania is this go-round.

As to Solie, this weeks Wrestling Observer says its very likely this year. Jim Ross publicly came out and said he would "love to see it" in his blog, and many think he would not lobby without knowledge of the plan (which is already made) - I am also hearing the Briscos, with their Florida and WWE ties for Jerry, are likely.
Watched a cool PrimeTime from 9/87 last night. Love these shows, brings me back to a more innocent time. Skipped what would have been my "must-see" match on the show - Tito Santana vs Outlaw Ron Bass - as its on my Santana 19-disc set, but otherwise enjoyed the offerings. I am a closet Jerry Allen fan, he was a good hand and a step-up from squash guy. He is now dead, car wreck I think. He had a good technical battle with Cowboy Bob.
Scott Casey also made an appearance, battling Tama. Its been fun to watch the "who gets the contract of Bam Bam" stuff again. Remember it well the first go-around, I had no idea what the plan was, and laughed with glee when I saw Sir Oliver got the guy.
Another interesting note- recognized the name of jobber Billy Anderson, and jogged my memory. Doublechecked on Onlineworldofwrestling, and he was indeed the uncle of my favorite female grappler, Cheerleader Melissa Anderson, whose Dad was a mainstay on the West Coast scene in a journeyman role through the 80s.

Im grumpy. One of the key features of 24/7 is they air the documentary DVDs out there in due time, and it gives me a chance to get the sets I was not sold on buying into my library regardless.
Monday night I realized they were airing Rey Mysterio's "Littlest Big Man" offering, including over 6 hours of crucial Rey matches. Part 1 and Part were up, each ringing in around 90 minutes. As it was late on the clock, I decided I would tape them last night while we all went about our business in the other room.
So I get home, pop out a tape for recording, and flip on 24/7, and there is Rey Mysterio's doc.....parts THREE AND FOUR. I missed the first two parts, which shoots my plan to Hell. And now I am going to end up going out and grabbing the DVD set, which is a better bet anyway.
But crap on a cross, I hate when I miss things that I had an eye on.

one of the new features i saw in the update today is some thing called "the Film" hosted by JR. this was a short show bout 25 mins but its good. They described it as wrestlings golden age when all the important matches were recored on a single film camrea. the first one up showed the promos contract signing and match between WWWF champ BIlly Graham and NWA champ Harley Race. good stuff on here lots of Solie and a halfway decent match set an a rain soaked orange bowl. i encurage you all to watch it

The Film Room was great fun. One of the highlights was guys like Eddie Graham and Harley Race walking around with those "HI, MY NAME IS -" stickers on their chests during the meeting for the wrestling press.

Cap and company, they are showing the entire MSG card from the night Hogan beat the Sheik and kicked off Hulkamania, so get on it. I am glum I am a bit slow to the draw on recording some gems before they are pulled. I taped the Bockwinkel Hall of Fame special, and wanted to add a 28 minute match that was airing against Jerry Lawler from Memphis on the tape. I put it off for a couple of days, and poof, its gone. I had to settle for adding a battle with German joke Otto Wanz, historical in that Wanz took the title from Nick that night.

I just started the MSG Classic Card where the Hulkster wins the belt..I am taking in the scientific matchup between Jose Luis (formerly Mac) Rivera vs. Tony Garea. I will be scanning the audience to see if I can find myself..albeit about 85 pounds lighter on the frame.....
