Cap, a must watch on the TV section. WWWF TV episode, circa March of 79. Ted Dibiase puts up his North American title in a squash. The Valient Brothers are on hand, as is the triumverate of Albano, Blassie, and the Grand Wizard. Have not watched it yet, but I am eager.

I read there's a roundtable coming up with Flair, JR, Mean Gene and I think Austin or JBL to discuss factions throughout history.I heard there's some drinking and if you got Flair with a few drinks in him, I wanna watch. I despise Directtv for not carrying 24/7. Assholes.

There's a card up there now from Boston Garden, circa March of 89. I was just wrapping up my Community College tenure at that time. Anyhow, what I do with these is buzz through, watching/taping matches I have interest in one way or another, and shunning the rest.
There was a spirited battle between the Rockers and The Brain Busters. With Tony Schiavone on commentary (joined by Lord Alfred) it had an NWA feel to it. A match I enjoyed was Mr Perfect going up against Rugged Ronnie Garvin. Red Rooster checked in and made an appearance, having his hands full with Brooklyn Brawler. And in a battle of the dead, refereed by the dead, Bad News Brown and Hercules had a sloppy match, with Joey Marrella calling it off due to a double-countout.
The main event, which I also saved for posterity, was a cage battle between Hulk Hogan and The Big Bossman. Poor Slick got into the cage to do a few spots. Oh, and before I forget, that silly Lanny Poffo came out and read a poem, in heel fashion, to a crescendo of boos. He had a lot of negative things to say about our friend Hulk Hogan.
All in all I had fun with the show and the matches I did choose to watch.

The Rockers were good, best team to never win Tag gold,(well they won the AWA Tag belts as the midnight rockers). I miss those old school tag matches, its a lost art these days.

Lanny Poffo poems rule.
Didn't the Rockers sort of win the tag belts once? Like they won them on a house show, but it was never acknowledged on TV?

You are correct, Sir. The Rockers won the belts, but they never acknowledged it. Unless i miss my guess, it was pulled for disciplinary reasons before it ever got a chance to be mentioned on air. The change is not mentioned in any WWE record books.
As to Poffo, I remember being at the Garden when he came out for a poem. I, and the people around me, groaned and sighed in frustration. At the time he was a fan favorite. Well, this was the start of his turn, and it took a few seconds for it to register to me that he was all of a sudden ripping Hulk Hogan in his poem. I then started cheering him, Hulk fan or no. Never could have enough bad guys on the circuit.

Very close Tom, very close indeed sir. The Rockers beat the Hart Foundation(HBK rolled up Bret), but about 2/3 of the match was done without a top rope, it snapped off the turnbuckle and it was impossible to do any sort of irish whip into the corner or the ropes. They still continued the match(I believe it was a house show they were taping)and the match was abysmal. They tossed the match afterwards and gave the belts back to Anvil and Bret without anyone seeing the win, except those in attendence.
In the Heartbreak and Triumph DVD, they show a few clips, brutal. A few months later HBK turned on Jannetty and went on to become the second greatest wrestler of all time. And all his Tag title wins were flukes, him and Diesel beat the Headshrinkers, they forfieted the belts after not defending due to HBK turning on Kev. Then the famed Austin/HBK tandem, whi beat Bul;ldoh and Owen on raw, summer of 97, culminated in the 1 on 1 match at KOTR, which resulted in a few refs taking the stunner and superkick and forfeiting the tag straps. Then Cena, lostthem due to Shawn kicking his teeth down his throat.
The flub match was as close you get to a clean tag title win and reign for Shawn, and it's not even in the books. Nor should it. Jannetty was dohshit anyway, they probably would have won more tag gold than just the AWA belts if Jannetty could've stayed clean and HBK out of trouble.

Folks, check this out - next month 24/7 will be showing the SHOWDOWN AT SHEA card. This is a gem, rarely seen even in snippets. The tape traders are going bananas. I cant wait to see it myself.
Card contains Bruno Sammartino vs. Larry Zbyszko in a cage match, Bob Backlund & Pedro Morales vs. Afa & Sika, Andre the Giant vs. Hulk Hogan, Ken Patera vs. Tony Atlas and Tatsumi Fujinami vs. the original Chavo Guerrero.

Oh my...you trying to record on DVD? What cable system?
I remember reading someone had an end-around in regards to getting it on the DVD....you record on a VCR tape, and then record to DVD. You just cant do it direct.
As to me, I am on a VCR, and I just went over and started recording one of the shorties.

I read that....I honestly dont see that going very far. And I think it would be a tremendous mistake. They will lose a lot of coverage, not every system is going to line up for this, and WWE does not have the clout of MLB or NHL, or local sports channel juggernauts.
24/7 is a big moneymaker for them, with very little overhead. They should not try to mess with what is truly a "good thing."

But a lot people don't get 24/7, if you become a regular channel then your viewing universe becomes bigger and you charge ad rates, if 30 years ago I told you there would be an all news, sports and others you would say I was crazy, I for one would pay a little extra for a WWE channel.

Next month - OCT. Part of a "Take Me Out to the Brawl-game" theme, using the baseball playoffs as the backdrop. Lots of "baseball themed" wrestling stuff. I saw the ad for it just a couple of nights ago as an ad before a program I was watching on 24/7 started.

OK finally sat down for some 24/7 this morning. Tried DVDing the Legends and no go...Tried recabling and no help. I then reconfigured my VCR (yes I still have one) and that tapes fine like Tom said but even if you try to move the recorded program from the tape to a DVD it still blocks it. Tom you know any sights out there talking about this and possible work arounds?

I will poke around. A couple of the websites I frequent in the past had whole sections devoted to the technicalities of burning / converting / taping. I will see what I can find out.
Thats wack. I figured once you could put it to tape, you would end up ok. I can tell you this....some of the traders I have seen are selling what you cant convert on DVD. So someone / somehow is doin it.

Ok, well, the "Showdown at Shea" is up and running. People on the wrestling boards are raving over it, as the commentary overdub is done by Michael Cole and the since-departed Mick Foley, and its apparently all kinds of awesome, with many good yarns and old-school references.
So get on it!

Funniest part was when Lawler first shows up and is wearing his cape and crown and Funk is calling him an idiot and saying don't you realize no one is here...

New excellent "Legends" up......All about the lost art of managers.....Great show...Didn't talk much about Albano, Wiz and Blaisse but when they showed the footage of Sullivan and Mark Lewin rasiing out of the sea, it was just like yesterday for me as I still remember that vividly and it was 24 years ago. Also the brief mention of "Cry Baby" Cannon brought back memories as a kid when he was a heel manager of The Mongols and Eric the Red on IWA wrestling which used to be on Channel 9 at midnight in the early 70's before WWWF took over the slot.........Also a landslide of well deserved praise for The Brain and Gary Hart....
The Legends series continues to be my most favorite item on 24/7..next up is the culture of Southern Wrestling

Cap, you ever see the ECW nod to the Sullivan / Lewin thing, when Raven got someone out of the ocean? I think it was Stevie or Blue Meanie or someone, and they spun around in circles making devil noises.
