Adam Lambert officially came out of the closet and announced he is gay. In other shocking news, Al Sharpton announced that he is black.

Former EVANESCENCE Members Join Forces With 'American Idol' Singer In THE FALLEN - June 18, 2009 Brian Mansfield of USA Today reports that three of the four original members of EVANESCENCE — guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray — have joined forces with "American Idol" powerhouse vocalist Carly Smithson to form a new band called THE FALLEN.
A formal announcement will be made this coming Monday, June 22 in Hollywood, with a news conference and the band's first live performance. Debut song "Bury Me Alive" will be available at that time for free download at WeAreTheFallen.com.
THE FALLEN's lineup is rounded out by bassist Marty O'Brien, whose recording and touring credits include DISTURBED, KELLY CLARKSON, STATIC-X, METHODS OF MAYHEM and TOMMY LEE.
"This all happened by accident," Smithson — who sang EVANESCENCE's "Bring Me to Life" during the 2008 Idols Live tour (see video below) — told USA Today. She's friends with Moody's housemate, Monique Morrison. "I met him once or twice (at the house) before the band thing," said Smithson, who had been working on a solo project.
The new group's name alludes to EVANESCENCE's 2003 major-label debut album, "Fallen", which has sold 7 million copies in the USA.
Smithson doesn't see herself as replacing EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee. "Amy let the boys go," she told USA Today. "We just started a new band, called THE FALLEN. It's got really nothing to do with EVANESCENCE." THE FALLEN initially may perform a few EVANESCENCE songs live, she says, "but we're pretty much focused on new music. You have an amazing writing team here, and amazing musicians.
"Our voices are completely different," she said of Lee. "This music is, obviously, the players from EVANESCENCE, but Marty's bringing a different flavor from what he does. I'm bringing a different flavor from what I do, and Ben has completely explored many different genres over the last few years. It's not EVANESCENCE anymore. It's huge. It's big, big, big songs that I can wail my ass off on, because that's what I love to do."

Ellen DeGeneres to Be Named Fourth Judge on 'American Idol'
Ellen DeGeneres is dancing her way onto "American Idol," replacing Paula Abdul as the show's fourth judge.
In a Wednesday release from Fox and the show's producers, DeGeneres described herself as a longtime fan of the hit television singing contest.
"I'm thrilled to be the new judge on 'American Idol'," said DeGeneres in the statement. "I've watched since the beginning, and I've always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I'll save from not having to text in my vote."
Abdul, who announced she was quitting the show amid a contract dispute, had been replaced by a succession of guest judges as "American Idol" started next season's auditions.
DeGeneres, host of a daytime television talk show, wasn't among them. She will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for the ninth season starting in January.
"I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the 'American Idol' family," said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. "Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel. I can't wait for this next season to begin."

Wow. They actually made a pick so bad, it would make us actually wish Paula was still on the show. After all, who better to judge than a comedienne that isn't even funny?

But hey, she's a music fan!
Um, why do we need a 4th judge again?

So, as I was telling Balls this past week, the skinny on Kat McPhee was that she chopped off most of her hair, and died it blonde. This is being universally panned. On the Fox site, over 25,000 votes have been cast, with 75% preferring the old look. Count me in amongst that lot.

Don't get me wrong, the hair color is a downgrade. But the length is worse.

So a new season of American Idol begins, starting with the part I hate the most--the shit auditions.
How many phenomenal singers are missed because of these bozos?

That's probably true. They don't realize what they have, so they will replace him with the wrong guy.

The more I'm watching, the more I have the feeling this is going to be a terrible season of American Idol, which sucks, coming off arguably its best season.
They keep showing people who suck. It's just stupid.

I am not happy about this season's previews so far, as the shows are way to short and seems like they really don't show that many auditions and it seems very rushed and a lot more "producution montages".....Thank goodness for "Pants on the Ground"....LOL

I heard about that, and while his dad did break the rules, the guy also earned his spot in the top 24, and that's a pretty shitty thing for them to do.
At least when Hollywood week starts, the talent increases exponentially.

Well, an executive decision has been made at the Brown household, and we are done with the show for now. We are giving it ONE MORE SHOT. We will watch the first episode after the whittle down to the final 12, and if we are as bored or aggravated with it as we have been for the last season and last week, we're done for good.
In fact, we had to force ourselves to give it even the one more shot. Out of 24 perormances - 24! - we seriously did not enjoy one. Such an unlikable group, the performances sucked. NO WAY we invest another 4 hours of TV time this week to this mess. I dont understand why they march so many people out there....its way too much. So we wont be watching this week, or next week I guess. Remind me when they are down to 12.
This is NOT subject to change. If anything, we decide we dont need the show and skip the first episode of the 12 after all. But no chance we watch the next couple of weeks, none.

The quality of the top 24 is so low that if I miss it, I miss it--doubt I'll even watch the DVR.

Keep in mind there are two hour showings tonight AND tomorrow, and then to beat people over the head even more, results Thursday.
I wish I had the 2 1/2 DVRd hours we invested in the shows last week back.

Though my viewing ended with the final 24 decision I will have to back Tom up in regards that they have even butchered, cut the auditions down and forced bits so much that they are not even enjoyable anymore I will be waffling next season whether to return...

I didn't watch for the first few seasons then gave it a shot and watched most of a season. I don't get the attraction. And next year, without Simon, what's the point. The only thing that made it even remotely tolerable was to hear the stupid comment Paula would make and the snide remarks of Simon.

I do get that. In the first few years some of the personalities were interesting. The concept was fresh. Ive said many times Ive used Idol to catch up on my reading, during much of the banter and the crap songs I am reading my magazines or books. But now even in the background its wearing on me.
We also had the parents / daughter thing going....for the first couple of years Emma would watch a lot of it with us. Now with school she is back to a set bedtime, and we dont keep her up for it. So with that fun family dynamic gone, Dana and I dont need it.
