So after work today, and before dinner, I walked down to barclay rex and bought a couple of things for the weekend coming up. While in there, I decided to pick up a stick and fire it up right then and there in the lounge. I went with the Nub 358 Maduro by Oliva. I've seen these funny things around for some time, but given by time constraints with the store closing in 45 min and my later plans, I needed a shortie to smoke and then to duck out of the store. I skipped the Arturo Fuente Short Story which is my usual quick cigar that never lets you down and jumped right into the fire with something new. This thing doesnt waste any time with getting to the business end of the cigar and the good flavor. Burned well, smelled nice, and had that fat ring gauge which is nice to puff on every once in a while. As far as lasting over an hour, I guess it could...but I kicked it in about 45-50 min. I also had a dog upstairs that needed to go out for a walk so in the puddle the nub of the Nub went. I'll definitely be buying more of these.

Gooner, have you smoked one of these before? All I know about is that the band says Corojo #5, and the band is on the tip of the cigar. I had a couple last night...decent smoke...about 7 bucks.

CHO, that is a Rocky Patel "The Edge" smoke. From what I understand, it's pretty much like the flagship smoke from RP but to be honest, I don't really get the big deal. I've smoked The Edge and The Edge Lite and was not impressed with either one by the smoke itself nor the construction of the stick. To me, there's alot better smokes from RP out there...The Vintage 90 & 92 as you know, Vintage 99, or the Sun Grown. I still have yet to try the Decade, Olde World Reserve, or the ITC. There's also a shit ton of exclusives he does for certain retailers lie Famous, Thompson, and Holt's like the RP Ocean Club, Royal Order, Cuban Blend, American Market Selection, Rosado, etc....
I just dont get how a guy can make that may blends in not alot of time. I tend to stick with the more widely available range, such as the first batch I mentioned.

Ahh, that's an RP? I didn't know. The band, at least the band on mine, made no mention of RP.
Like I said, it was decent. But yes, I'm a fan of the vintage 90 & 92 line.

I have not burned a stick in a good bit. Maybe this weekend, chill in the air be damned. Finally did find my "12 Beers A Fallin'" Saranac pack, and picked it up even though I already had a 12 Beers of Summer languishing in my fridgeaire. Love me some Caramel Porter, and some Pumpkin Ale!

It was good smokin' with you guys at "The Liquor Store" - hahaha.
Funny stuff...in Cali, Bodegas are synonymous with "Liquor Stores" (in every sense of the word...implicit drug activities included), which if probably confusing to people from the east coast where LIQUOR STORES and that and ONLY that - stores that sell LIQUOR...period.

Last night I logged in on Famous Smoke and got what I would consider a fantastic deal. I purchased two 5 packs of Oliva Serie G Robusto at get this...$12.50 a piece!!. That's right..with shipping, there's 10 premium OLIVA box-pressed cigars coming my way for just a smidge under $30. I'm kinda into box-pressed smokes nowadays. They hold the shape better and don't get all mushy on the end. They also for whatever reason, don't need to be relit several time. I think the next buy I'm going to make is of course a move to replace my Rocky Patel Vintage 1990's which I've been going through during the pre-games this postseason, but also a smoke called BAUZA, made by the famous FUENTE family.

I have heard nothing but good things about those "NUB" cigars but I just cant find any of them up here in Canada. A friend of mine just got back from vacation and he brought me back a few Arogant Bastard Ales...I'll be having those during the game tonight....and if we win some bubbly....
I've been saving this cigar in the depths of my humidor for a special occasion. When I got it, it was looking a little dry but I think with some patience I have saved it...hopefully there will be cause to fire it up tonight as well.

Blowing a smoke tonight after a potential Yankee win sounds gangbusters, but figure the game will crawl through the 11PM hour, so its unrealistic. Maybe ill jump outside with one of my minis.
I got some good Saranacs in the fridge, its 12 pack of Winter time. Geez, the Fall 12 pack did not get much use. This one has stuff like a Big Moose Pale Ale, and some other hearty brews. Ill be sipping those tonight.
Yeah, box cuts rule. Im going back to those next time around. Last time I ordered i got torpedoes for some reason.

Went to the LAST of SoCal's great old punk rock clubs still standing, The Casbah in San Diego, last night to see Shonen Knife.
Noticed they were serving up Arrogant Bastard Ale. Wasn't someone here touting this stuff?

Hello there CBC Guy...
Yeah Nub is a great cigar and they're easy to store in your humidor since theyre so short. When I first saw them, I thought it was the dumbest looking thing I'd ever seen but it's definitely worth a shot. It's actually made by Oliva also.
While I've never shopped extensively for cigars in Canada, I would imagine they would be mostly Cubans, no? That's all I've ever bought up there.

The Cubans are indeed very popular.....Love them Cohibas but they can be very pricey. There is a great tobacconist near me and he gets these short fat cigars from the Dominican , they run about 5 bucks each. Very very nice cigar. No band on these cigars...I don't even know the name. My mother in-law brought me a bunch of cigars back from her trip to Florida...there are some quality cigars coming out of the U S of A.

Very angry that I can't find Old Fezziwig anywhere in Hoboken. Drinking this one right now. Toxicly strong. I can pretty much handle more than one of any beer, but this is one of the harshest imperial stouts I've ever tried, and this might be a one-and-done:

Well, as yesterday creeped up to 50 degrees, great time to rumble outside with a cigar my In-Laws got me as part of my holiday stash, a good Garcia Y Vega. Had that with a couple of Maple Porters and a Belgian Ale out of the Saranac Winter pack.
My Secret Santa got me a nice bottle of cognac, and another coworker last week got me a bottle of scotch, so my empty decanters will be filled with joy.

They opened a Buy-Rite right outside Hoboken, near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. The place has, literally, an entire city block full of microbrews and imports. I may weigh as much as Knuckles by the end of 2010. This used to be one of my favorites, and I was saddened when the brewery went out of business. I'm not sure who is responsible (the label just says New Amsterdam Brewing), but someone brewed up a single batch using their old recipe. Sadly, only two bottles were left, but I just enjoyed one. They really need to bring this beer back:

From a brewery in Pearl River, NY, of all places, an excellent Christmas ale (as dark as a stout), Defiant Christmas Ale.
No picture because, even though both of their beers I have tried have been outstanding, their Web site sucks shit!

I actually have not had a drink in days, battling a lingering illness. Today I do feel somewhat better, but still lethargic. Im going to pass, which is a tough call, what with the Winter Classic on today. Instead of drinking a glass of whiskey or some Saranac Winters, Ill be eating Spinach Sandwiches and drinking tea.
I got a nice sampler stash of imported and cool beers from a couple of the managers at my office, some of which are still sitting in the office fridgeaire. I wont be bringing those home till Monday. Hopefully Monday I will be cracking my next beers for the big wrestling war that evening.

I have one bottle of Coastal Wheat in the fridge. I haven't tried it yet. That Coney Island beer looks interesting.

Just tried the Coastal Wheat. Good, but nothing special. If you like wheat beer, you'll like it. Hoegaarden is better. The Sam version actually tastes a lot like Blue Moon.
