So there was a cigar rolller at Capone's wedding. I ended up taking home four sticks made on the quick, after dropping a bit of tip money on the table. Smooth smokes, I believe the entity is called the Connecticutt Tobacco Company or some such.
We had considered having a cigar roller at my own wedding, but decided against it as there was no smoking at the locale, and I did not want people dissapearing for an hour outside. But its a Hell of an idea, and I enjoyed the 2 cigars from the batch I did smoke over the weekend outside while spinning my Dio tribute.

Those look great, Gooner.
Haven't smoked in a while, but as I'm typing, I'm listening to the Stogie Review podcast for the Rocky Patel Signature series...making my mouth water.
If any of you smokers are into podcasts, this is a good one to subscribe to.

WHITESNAKE Wine Coming In July - June 13, 2010 WHITESNAKE and Dennis de la Montanya are proud to present the Whitesnake Zinfandel 2010.
Commented WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale: "It's a bodacious, cheeky little wine, filled to the brim with the spicy essence of sexy, slippery snakeyness... I recommend it to complement any and all grown-up friskiness and hot-tub jollies...
"Is this love?... I believe it is..."
The Whitesnake Zinfandel 2010 wine will be available in most U.S. states after July 1 and internationally shortly thereafter.

As we hit the middle of summer, the beers and smokes have been flowing nicely so far. Lots of time to relax and enjoy this season. As keeping with my updates every few months of what I've been poisoning myself with lately...here goes! I've got a new favorite smoke up there with the usual RP's and Arturo Fuente. It's the Jesus Fuego '777' Corojo. While the maduro wrappers (white label) are readily available in most online shops and smoke shops, the Corojo (red label) is a little harder to come by for some reason. Awesome smoke. It looks tough but it's pretty sweet...almost as nice as the Hemingway by Fuente, but a more robust look and overall feel. Also, I've smoked this Patel Brothers, a new-ish smoke created by Rocky and his brother. Another good one. Don't let the dark wrapper make you think this is going to be a tough full-bodied commitment. Great taste and alot of fun to smoke. And finally...my favorite thing all summer.. I've been doing some travelling to Wisconsin lately and been inspired by their hearty drinking habits up there to pick up some of their local swill. I've found a beer distributor where I spend most of my quiet weekend time and they happen to carry the full range of Leinenkugels. Score! (There's also a cigar store attached to the beer store...too good to be true). I know of not a finer alcoholic beverage (or non) at the moment to enjoy outside on a hot day than a Leine's Summer Shandy or Sunset Wheat. I'm urging you all to try it as I cannot explain how great it is and do it any justice. I usually don't gush about brands of booze but this one is just tops.

Gooner, two thumbs up on both Leinenkugel offerings. They are both fantastic summer beers, and extremely affordable, as well. I'm not usually into fruit beer, but I've been sort of hooked on this one, which came in an assorted case from Sam Adams. It doesn't beat you over the skull with the blackberry flavor.

Goons, you buy your smokes online all the time or via shops also? Any good smoke shops in the city you could recommend?
Also, picking the brains of You, Tom and the other smokers of the board, give me a good cigar to get my pallet going.
I'd like to enjoy a few while the weather is still warm, and have a few to bring to the Giants opening day tailgate, or Yankee playoffs.

Nice call on the Leinenkugels. I have not grabbed any this summer but I have had nothing but good experiences with them. I too enjoy that Summer Shandy. Should have grabbed some yesterday! Ive been running with my Saranac 12 Beers of Summer all summer.
My go-to cigar is STILL Sancho Panza. The Robustos I have now (just got 5 for $14.99) from Famoussmoke.com are box pressed, and a light and easy smoke. Consistent burn and draw. Really much like them. Grover, when you are over for Summerslam I will make sure I have one on hand for you.

gooner - I think we talked about CAOs in person last year, but I don't quite recall what was said. Weren't you smoking the "Brazilian" line - one with the band with a Brazilian flag on it?
I had a CAO La Traviata yesterday. An excellent, smooth, perfectly rolled cigar. Just some cursory internet research showed these things to retail between $5 - $7. I don't think I buy that. Maybe they have smaller versions than the one I smoked that retail for that much.
Anyway....ever try a La Taviata? Take?

Grover, if you want a good smoke to get started on I always recommend Padron 2000 or Padron 3000. Either that or Punch Rothschilds. I'm sure CHO will agree both are kinda the best of both worlds. High quality, not cheap ($6-7) but certainly won't break the bank, and pretty much a humidor staple in most online and retail shops. They're also not mild pussy smokes so they'll get you ready for the big guns should you decide you really like the heavier stuff.
Tom is a Sancho Panza guy but I've never had one of them. One day I will though.
I buy online from Famous, Holts.com, or CigarAuctioneer.com if I need some basic stuff for my humidor to keep it full. As far as the more expensive and rare one-off smokes I do, I'll pick up 2 or 3 sticks at a time from Barclay Rex on Lex between 50&51st or Cigar Inn on 2nd Ave and 54th.
If you want, let's go grab a smoke one day and hang out in the lounge.
Cho..I did smoke those CAO Brazilia Gol sticks a while back. They're OK. As far as CAO goes I like the CAO gold maduro. Inexpensive and really good. That La Traviata was rated very high this year I think. A lot of people like those. The only other ones I've had are the 'America' and "Criollo'. Both were just eh...nothing great and some construction problems.

Yes...for my money, for a good sort of mild, yet flavorful, economically do-able, every day smoke, most bang (quality) for your buck, you cannot go wrong with the Padron 2000 or 3000 (I'd lean toward the 3000 for a little extra girth).
I hadn't really thought of the Padrons as in good candidate for an introductory cigar, but it's a great suggestion.
Much better than the way most of us start - with some no-name and/or machine-made dog-rocket!
If you do go with the Padrons as an every day smoke, buy the 4 or 5 packs or whatever....more economical by at least a buck per smoke.

Gooner, I had an authentic Cuban El Rey Del Mundo today. First one ever, Cuban or otherwise. BTW, I'm no Cuban snob - I just tend to smoke up all the "legals" quickly and turns out that all is left in my humidor is a handful of various Cubans that were gifted to me. This was, as I texted Tom, quite possible the most well constructed, best consistency, tastiest cigar I've ever had. I'm thankful I have two more sitting in the humidor. I will certainly seek out the "legal" versions as well (probably Honduran, I'm guessing). If you haven't had one, give it a try. Regardless of that fat vein down the middle, this smoke's construction made for an extraordinarily even burn and smooth draw all the way down to the nub.

Had a recently released Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary Edition last night. Good cigar...actually a VERY good cigar. The wife gifted me this smoke back in September. I'm still a bigger fan of the core vintage (90, 92) lines from RP, but this smoke was very nice, drew nicely, and retained a pleasant flavor throughout.

yeah ive seen those 15th anniv sticks from RP but never had one. It's a pretty pricey smoke...around $14 or $15 for a robusto. That alone has kept me moving along. Everyone at Barclays swears its great though....what would u compare it to?? Better than the Decade??? How did it match up to the 1990 vintage? thats my fav smoke of all time. I had this laying around so i took a walk the other night and fired it up. really peppery at the beginning but it smoothed out and had some good sneaky flavors.

Well, Gooner - I like the Vintage 90 or 92 better than anything else RP puts out. Those are still the core of the Rocky Patel line as far as I'm concerned, and their best offerings.
Better than the Decade, I guess. I've only smoked a Decade once and the only thing I'm basing that statement on is that I don't recall the Decade being all that memorable.
Pick yourself up ONE and smoke it. Just for the experience - you'll enjoy it, but at the price it probably wont become a staple in your humidor.

this weekends beers: coudn't resist these in the stubby bottles. Old school packaging. ...Full Sail Session Lager From Full Sail, One of my favorite breweries now. Basic beer, meant for all day drinking but a little stronger at 5.0%+ ..nothing spectacular but the bottles are a trip back in time. picked up a 22oz of this on a recent trip to VT and saved it for a few weeks in the fridge. I was really surprised with this. a real slick tasting milky beer great color....and packs a punch at 7% +.
