Grover--you basically came up with a better idea yourself. The line.

Deepening the line will lead to less hitting and more strikeouts looking. Another bad idea.

It definitely will, but I wouldn't deepen the line dramatically, just a little bit. I bet a lot of balls were just off the line slightly.
It would be a concrete way of dealing with this issue. I still don't think 8 walks in 42 innings, with 4 coming from one pitcher in 7 of those innings, is that big of a deal. It's actually damn impressive, but if people really think this is a problem, it's a better solution.
There is one very easy solution. No matter where the first pitch, call strike one on Evan.

You know why 07 sucked? Because when I asked as many people as I could if they had fun and if they enjoyed themselves most of them pretty much hesitated before saying 'Yeah.....it was fun.' You know what was more fun? Beer and darts and getting piss drunk. But sorry, I felt like shit seeing people say they had a good time when they really didn't. Since I took the time to get as much as I could organized, it didn't make me feel good, no. The issue I brought up was a main gripe people had. Obviously, I must be wrong, since I'm just out to bully things into going my way.
Thanks a lot for throwing me under the bus for trying to make suggestions.

So you asked people right then and there that were dog tired after being in the heat all day and most of whom had just lost if they had a good time, and they hesitated? Go figure.
I'm not throwing you under the bus. It just seems to me like people are ready for it, and those who aren't will be ready as the game draws closer. The Hitmen didn't lose because of Shane's umping, and the Boxeaters didn't lose because of Marc's umping. Both of those teams lost because Balls was on the team and he sucked ass. And Dead Money would have been much better prepared had they faced better hitting in the first game, instead of having to face an easy out like Balls.
The game play really ain't broke. It's just a few people that are gay that instruct their people to go up there looking to walk. I can think of a few, and I will never vote those people captain.

I'm merely making a suggestion and you're jumping all over me. I'm doing the things I can because no one else ever did in the past, and that's why you had instances like people not wanting DZ Marc to ump again because he made one bad call and those in charge just went 'Ah-yup okayyyyyy!' I'm not strong arming anyone to do anything.
The sentiment wasn't the same in 06. After 06 even the guys who lost were like 'wow that was fun' while this year they were like '.....uh...who's round is it?' but we'll give it another shot I suppose.

It will come and go in waves. It will sustain itself for awhile, then die out, only to resurface when we have less to fight about and need a boost.

You guys are fags. That shit was fucking fun, no matter what anyone says.
People that fish for walks are bigger fags, and the funny thing is everyone knows who they are and what they are doing. Call it strategy if you like, but I call it being a faggot. I'm an old fat fuck and I always find a way to have a somewhat decent day at the dish. If you are younger than me and weigh less (that's pretty much everyone) and you fish for a walk, you are a fag.
I'm used to playing with people that put the ball in play and not acting like that pussy kid with the runny nose on your little league team that got to play 2 innings in right field and always had a shit stain in the seat of his uniform pants.
I'll follow my Captains. If they want LI, I'm in LI (my team will be treated to an awesome BBQ, believe me).
If they want Manhattan, I'm in Manhattan. After getting fucked out of playing in '06 because of ground holds at JFK not letting my plane take off out of Detroit, I will never book business travel for that week again.
Fuck the haters and the walk fishers.

This day was awesome the first 2 years, and then it jumped the shark.
I cannot believe you guys have been arguing for 6 pages about pitches, when there are only about 5 people out of 50 who could be competitive against this team...

Sorry I bought it up.
No really, if I knew that bringing this up was going to get Balls to freak out and Justin to kick sand in my face I would have left it alone. Good to know I can go to you guys when I want to get counsel on possibly making the game better, and it's good to know I can bring something up and get a valued opinion. The game is a gleaming beacon of excellence and shall remain so.
I'm sorry I bothered other prestigious people like Laura and kept them from spending quality time in the 'What Pepperidge Farm Cookies Am I Eating' thread.
My next update will be if I get a permit. Don't bother me until then.

Oh, and anyone who feels the need to chime in about how nauseating a thread is can fuck right off. Really, go to another fucking thread if you have no business here. There's plenty of uber cool Huckle House threads like 'BBQ sauce I put on toast' thread and 'What current sudoku game I'm playing thread.' Get lost. I have other things to do like watch MSB get cokejaw because I didn't update the permit status on a daily basis.

If 2004 was the best year, then why not bring back the 2004 captains? Because that's not why it was the best year. Go look at the score card. 3 walks, two by girls. Then go look at 05 when the barn doors opened. Now everyone is Vic Wertz working the count. Oh, but how stupid of me to even bring up how gay that is and if there was anything we could do about it. Since I can't hit a line drive I must not understand anything. Hey, Andy is done with the DVD. $10!

Deepening the line will lead to less hitting and more strikeouts looking. Another bad idea. Really? Well, good. Anyone who gets Ked looking in slowpitch softball deserves it. There's a way to combat that you know. Most call it swinging the bat. Hard to get the backward K when you swing, correct? And quite honestly, you think there will be an epidemic of people striking out looking? You really think they won't swing to save themselves the embarrassment? I think you're putting too much on the notion that everyone will K. In 05 the line was short and everyone was screaming to each other to take pitchers (thus 20 walks) and in 06, the only people who were Ked were those looking to exploit that again. One, ONE person got caught looking. Oh, but don't mind me. I'm just looking to be a dick so I can change the rules so I can win again, right?

First of all, Laura, you have nothing to do with this, so your opinion doesn't matter.
No one has freaked out Grover. What has happened is that you came up with an idea that was not that good, and it was explained why it was not that good. There were 8 walks in 2007, with one pitcher giving up 4 of them. There were actually more walks in 2004 than listed. There are 4 on the box score. But for whatever reason, Frost walked twice, and 41 had at least one walk, which would bring the 2004 total up to at least 7. I remember 41's walk clearly because Tom threw the ball at his back. John may have had a walk too, unless he had a sac fly. Same with Eric. I don't need to rewatch the DVD to prove a point. The point is that at most, there was a ONE walk difference. Walks happen.
Read Jackass' post where he calls anyone who looks for walks faggots. That pretty much sums it up. There is no problem with the pitching.
And yes, there were a lot more walks in 2005. Why? The line was too close. And the vast majority of the walks happened in the Ultras/Wolftones game. One game where the pitchers couldn't find the plate. And one of those pitchers was only on the mound because Jackass got stuck on the runway.
Going the other extreme and calling every pitch a strike is the opposite extreme. It's a hitter's game. You don't need to change the pitching. You just need to throw strikes and swing the bat.
The line was further back in 2007, and there were not too many walks.
I'm hardly freaking out by just explaining things as they are. But given the reaction and that you just posted like five different times in a row, with pictures of course, the only freaking out here is by you.
There was no problem with the 2007 pitching or the umping behind the plate. There was just one small group of people looking to walk. It's part of the game, just like 3 outs are. It's annoying, but not something worth changing the rules over, especially when there were only 8 walks on the day.

Grover don't let this crap bother you..I look forward to your permit updates......Also you know how the "old guard" is always stuffy and resistant to change..You are a pioneer of the game and a trendsetter..Don't let them stiffle your creativity...Keep the ideas coming!!!!!!
