Well, enough visitors to our humble home here on Hecklehouse have children running about, and more to come. A lot of "family tales" end up buried in Useless Facts - here's a place to put stories of your wee ones, or pics, simply family fare. Its a good place for those interested in the antics of our children to visit and share a laugh.
So, this weekend I started teaching Emma the fine points of hockey. She got a cool stick to wield from the New York Islanders, who she writes notes to, thanking them humbly. We go outside, with she sporting her street hockey stick (on which she penned Emma on one side, and "Margrit" - her middle name of Margaret, on the other)
I was toting the Jesse Belanger "Game Used" stick. There is something cool, and also something tawdry, about playing street hockey with an NHL game-used, but I am sure Mr Belanger would be thrilled I care. I was also wearing my snazzy New Haven Knights jersey, which is stained in patches all over with dark beer from a Ren Faire visit - whats cool is that the dark orange splatters can almost pass for blood.
No joke, only one minute on the street and she was asking, "when can we fight?" She wanted to fight. In fact, I had said "later" and within 5 minutes she dropped her stick on the ground and was like, "ok, I dropped my stick, lets fight."
So we stand there and "fight" and I am sure if any neighbors peeked out they would be rolling eyes. Emma was also a big practitioner of the "time out box" or penalty box as it were. She would stop playing for no apparent reason, to walk to the front steps of the house to sit down for a minute in the "time out box."
By Sunday I had her playing some pretty good stick. She was holding it right (although she would get lazy and hold it so wrong you could not contort a normal person into that position) - we were passing the ball back and forth, and she actually displayed a good backhand, which I think is a passed on talent as I always had a very good backhand for no particular reason, without ever trying to hone it.
So we had fun, through all the constant stops for her to visit the "time out box" or fight, and the cars that were coming by way too often.
One alarming thing - she wanted to "fight with sticks." I have no idea what gave her the idea this is a good thing. I explained to her that it is not an option, unless of course she starts playing against other girls who take liberties.

You might want to explain the concept of a 25-game suspension to Emma.

We went to see the Hannah Montana 3D movie this weekend. My 3 year old son did what annoys me at any 3D movie - reached out and tried to grab the objects. I give him pass as it was his first 3D experience.

3-D does not work for me. At least I don't think it does. It actually looks really freaky. The stuff pops out of the screen and all but there is like a big blurry line connecting it to the screen. I hope that is because of my visual impairment and not because that is how 3-D really looks.

My youngest daughter (Amelia Grace) recently received her certification as a freelance makeup artist for theatre, television, and motion pictures.
She is presently pursuing her certification for special effects makeup and is expected to obtain that certification in the next six weeks.
A big shoutout to my brother, TheBadLT, for having the right connections at the studios to get her enrolled in those two programs, and a big shoutout to her for having the wherewithall to trek to the studio in Hollywood by 7:00am every morning from the South Bay.

My daughter phoned me yesterday afternoon to inform me that she has obtained her first professional gig as a makeup artist. She will be joining the team of hair and makup professionals for a celebrity runway show in LA next week. She is so excited and I am incredibly proud.

So this morning we are trying to leave the house, and its raining outside and we need to get a move on. So while I am pouring the coffees, I notice my daughter right outside the kitchen, calmly coloring in her coloring book, crayons splayed across the rug. I had told her to get her coat on 5 minutes before. Not only was there no coat, she was coloring away like it was Saturday morning and there was not a care in the world.
So, just a bit perturbed, I tell her to stop what she is doing and get on her coat. She looks up at me, looks back down, and starts coloring again. I once again tell her to put on her coat, and stop coloring, this time with a little more clipped of a tone. She again looks at me, then looks back at her book and starts coloring again.
Total insubordination here. Not used to that one from this fresh 5 year old. Needless to say about 3 seconds later she was no longer in possession of a crayon. She went whimpering down the hall to her Mother, and I went back to getting ready for our morning commute.
I dont mind a little wise-ass around the house, but flat out ignoring valid recommendations of action from the parental unit does not infuse me with glee.

Of all people on and related-to this board, Emma is one of the people I would most enjoy meeting. She seems to have quite the spirited personality, and for her to attempt to buck the system like that is commendable. She's clearly not intimidated by the "Sheriff" moniker.
She pulled a Jim Rome on you, Tom!!!!
"I bet you won't call me Chrissy to my face" "I'll bet I will" "I'll bet you wont." "...........................................Chrissy!"
Good for you Emma....Question Authority!

My daughter is almost walking. She has this little toy that is basically a training aid to teach her how to walk. I have a great video of her on my camera phone, and if someone can give me an idea on how to post it, I will...

I bet my sister will say this all started when I let her have blue hair.
Congrats on your daughter walking. Running soon follows. And just to warn you the day Em started walking was the day she stopped napping.

MY daughter took a math test in her 3rd grade class last week. One question had an odd shaped geometrical diagram with absolutely no equal angles, a dotted-line drawn through it, and asked, "Is this a line of symmetry?"
My daughter answered, "No, because it's thin" and the teacher gave her credit!

I'm working today (Saturday) and I have my 3 year old son at the office with me.
He sees me on the computer and asks, "Daddy, is working on the computer hard work?"
"Sometimes" I replied.
His follow-up question (unprovoked...I don't know where they get this stuff) ... "Do girls know what hard work is?"

I put Emma to work when she comes with me. I have her run figures on the adding machine and feed checks through the scanner and check figures on the computer to make sure everything balances. She's pretty good.

Nah, I only slash her on the legs.
Speaking of hockey, she is getting crazy good. We basically just pass the ball back and forth from opposite curbs on the street. She is a fancy-good stick-wielder.

I'm starting to think that the Fantastic Four punching bad was a bad purchase, as the house becomes extremely noisy while my son beats the shit out of the thing.

[glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]She's taken care of in the fighting department. We wrestle her all the time and don't really go easy on her. I like to put her in the Walls of Jericho. I've also taught her several martial arts blocks and kicks. [/glow][/glow]

You should put her in the Cobra Clutch. It's a good hold for adults to put on young ones. Chokeslams are fun too.

She hates when I put her in a full neslon. Especially when I pick her up and swing her like that. And backbreakers make her cry.

Did Tom have to spend two minutes in the penalty box for high-sticking, or did the toof just come out naturally? ;D
