Another cool thing are the recent PPVs they throw on here as an aside. I pick and choose PPVs now, I dont have the dough to be hurling around every month. I skipped Survivor Series this past year - well, its on there now. Taping as I type for viewing at my leisure somewhere down the line.

I already DVD'd the Legends Roundtable..I really like that show...I wish they would do that one weekly..I see they put a new Primetime to replace the TNT episode..I think that will be the next to be recorded...probably tomorrow.....
My areas particular of interest are the Primetime, TNTs and the Championship Wrestling from Florida..I will also take in the World Calss Card next couple days when I get the time....I also try to take in the old ECWs

Sancho wait til you see Fuji Chan and Fuji Bandito...Fuji Bandito with the Fabulous Moolah as Lil (Muraco's love interest is a classic) Fuji General is just the tip of the iceberg...lol..Did you see the last Primetime when Muraco and Fuji went to Hollywood..Classic stuff...ah da memories...it was things like that that made Muraco one of if not the favorite wrestler of my youth...I hope they start putting on the old All Star Wrestling shows from Saturday morning and midnight........Vince with the late Antonino Rocca on the mike with Vince..I remember whenever a good match was coming up Rocca would always say "I'm gonna take my shoes off for this match" and they would show his feet with socks only socks on on top of the announce desk.....

I am watching the Primetime episode right now...Ah Fuji Vice..spectacular...Sorry I did not have my DVD recorder for the weeks past when they aired the other Primetimes with the other Muraco/Fuji masterpieces.....
Small line from the Islanders vs. Moondog Spot and The Gladiator (under the hood) that I found hysterical..The Fink introduces Spot and Gladiator and says "claiming both to be from parts unknown"..Jessie the Body chimes in on the color commentary and says "hey McMahon do you think they are neighbors?"....Not sure if anyone finds that funny but for some reason that made me laugh really hard......

I watched PrimeTime last night as well. Yes, classic line, but he started beating it to death when he started asking if that was, "parts unknown, Utah, or parts unknown, Nebraska." It was also funny to hear Bruno chime in here and there, especially after Jesse noted that Bruno kept asking some ancient woman wrestler for a date and Bruno barked, "what?? I'm a happily married man."
Mr Fuji and Hillbilly Jim in a "tuxedo match" was ugly, but funny. Got to love the white tux on the Hillbilly, and the old stomp of Fuji's hat. The banter between Gorilla and Heenan whenever the subject of Ken Patera comes up is classic. That Hart/Dynamite match was just as I remember them, and a fantastic example of grappling prowess.

Some of my favorite stuff on here is the NWA Saturday night replays. I also like they are working chronologically, enconsed in the summer of 85 right now. I love the flow of those old wrestling shows, with the squash matches bolstered by long interviews at the podium which sometimes would spark into a ruckus, sometimes not. It makes todays scripted to the word promos that much worse, to hear a guy like Black Bart credibly get through a 3 minute schpeil at the desk, which had more realism in it than the hokey stuff on todays mics.
Anyway, this weeks offering had a heap of good stuff, from Dusty Rhodes showing off his "valet for 30 days" Baby Doll, who he won in a tangle with Tully, Black Bart slapping the debuting Terry Taylor in the face at the desk, Arn Anderson and Magnum TA going at it at the desk, a "main event" of Barbarian (with Paul Jones) vs Jimmy Valient which ended up with Valient being choked and beaten to a pulp by the two heels, and some great promos from Kevin Sullivan, Dick Slater, The newly arrived Rock and Roll Express, and Jim Cornette.
Classic stuff.

what i love about the territory days was how it was all NWA scantioned matches, but, Georiga, Florida, Memphis and World Class ran diffrent sotry lines and TV shows , but shared the same NWA champ. I know you guys, Captian and TOm spefically remember watching this stuff as it happened, and i gotta ask how does this stuff hold up to todays stuff. most of the time i can Really get into the NWA world championship wrestling espacally since its going week by week

Its a totally different way of watching wrestling. The squash match has been done away with, but there is validity in the squash match. The way things were built up, with squashes showcasing the moves, and a slow build to match between foes. Every once in a while they would throw us a bone and put a "main event" on TV. The promos were more intense. The squash formula was so tried and true for so long that some, like Wade Keller of the Torch, advocates a return to it for TNA. I think its been killed now, though, with the way each episode of Raw and Smackdown has a list of matches you will see on the monthly PPV
Its funny, but I am following what was a minor feud (minor enough to where I forgot it happened) between Dick Slater and Kevin Sullivan from 22 years ago now, or a concurrent one between Black Bart and Ron Garvin, on the NWA episodes. Every week the two do interviews calling out and griping about the other. They each wrestle a squash, while the announcers build it up. And, every once in a while, one will "poke his nose in the others business" and there will be a run-in and fight, or squabble at Schiavone and Crockett's desk. How can you not enjoy that.....even if you dont end up seeing a match between the two unless you bought a ticket at the arena.
This is how I grew up watching wrestling.

yes many of those squash jobbers were my favorites..guys like Jose Estrada, Jose Luis (later Mac) Rivera, Barry O, Frankie Williams, SD Jones, Johnny Rodz..though Jones and Rodz were slightly above squash status as they would usually get at least one 5 second burst of offense before getting squashed......Iron Mike Sharpe (Canada's greatest athlete) was another mid card guy who came in getting a push but then ultimately ended up as a glorified jobber...Believe it or not as witnessed by my own eyes live Rodz was given a semi push and actually had a 3 month (monthly card) MSG win streak which I couldn't believe.......

My personal opinion is that the monthly PPVs have killed the product....Four a year should be all..one each quarter (though I know it would never happen) would enhance the product so much and give each PPV the solid build up and story line required to make all the matches compelling...Even in the old days you knew every title feud would usually go 3 months at MSG.....First would be a DQ or two or perhaps the second one was a win by shady circumstance than the third month match would be to settle all things and would be either a cage match, Texas Death, no DQ, lumberjack match etc...

Cap, I do agree with you, PPVs are WAY overexposed, but they are still the bread and butter and mass-money makers. Cant argue with that. Makes me yearn for the old days. Hell yeah, I would take 4 PPVs a year....I may be able to order them then!
Speaking of Rodz, without going too deep into Spoilers, if you watch TNA at all, you'll see him next week... I ordered a comp tape a while back with Can-Am Connection/Strike Force matches, and a heap of squashes are on there. They were fun to watch simply to hear the banter back and forth between Gorilla and Bobby, or Bruno, Vince, and Jesse. Hey, lets not forgot Lord Alfred. And the jobbers as mentioned above, along with Swede Hansen and Mario Mancini and the like.

I watched the spotlight on Flair yesterday, and man, the one interview he cut with Schivonte on the WCW set had me in tears. Anytime you can pull off comparing Nikita Koloff to a bunch of women the Horsemen are banging, you know you're golden on the mic. LOL!!

Watched the latest CWF sampling and it was an OK episode.....Night of Rips as Rip Rodgers and Rip Oliver saw action and buildng up the Billy jack Rude arm wrestling contest....Once again TV time ran out on the feature match up of Rude vs. Mike Graham...
Also watched one of the ECW shows with the Pit Bulls vs. Raven/Richards dog collar tag team title match. The more I watch the old ECW the more I appreciate it...That atmosphere, the love, devotion of the fans to the product and their interaction both with the wrestlers and as part of the show will never be duplicated imo and will be missed (not to mention the moves, bumps and angles)....I laughed so hard after one of the Pit Bulls was chlorformed by Raven and a medic had to come out in the middle of the match up..the crowd all started making the sounds of an ambulance siren...As I have said I have been to many live events in lifetime..Snuka/Muraco SC, Backlund losing the belt, Hogan winning the belt, a couple Wrestlemanias and countless Raws / Smackdowns / PPVS but nothing was as exciting and matched the intensity of the last Guilty as Charged PPV I attended and more so the first One Night Stand..Though that was not an ECW event technically that event was probably the ultimate fan experience......

Did a couple of things last night, centered around 24/7 First set up the playing of Wrestlemania 5 on the bedroom TV when i got home from work, and let it record for the next 4 hours while we carried about our evening business. Not only do I not have this Mania on tape in my extensive PPV collection (I have at least 200 PPVs on hand) I cant 100% sure say I even saw this one, back in the day. Well, now I have it on hand for further viewing when I can.
Last night after Dana dropped out around 11 I tuned into the territorries section and watched the Florida from 7/13/85. I like, by the way, how they are showing concurrent Florida and NWA episodes, gives a good idea of the wrestling scene at that exact moment in time from the point of view of two feds. A fun episode. I like how they have Mike Graham out at different areas in the region, looking back. I found it very interesting to see the Florida Sportatorium, where all these shows were held, today. What a ramshackle old barn. Man, hearing that Florida open music, and seeing good old Gordon really takes me back.
Good to see guys like Rude, Billy Jack, Wahoo (who was booking at the time) and Graham in action. Fun stuff between Rip Rogers and Bugsy McGraw and their respective "valets" although I have no personal use for any of those folks. I enjoyed seeing "Crippler" Rip Oliver, a guilty pleasure of mine. Oliver was just old-school, and hardscrabble.

Hey, Cap, you're going to get your Midnight Rider stuff! This is in the tease for "next month" on WWE 24/7!
Championship Wrestling from Florida – Mike Graham brings you the action from the NWA’s hottest territory. As 1983 kicks off, the ongoing battle between the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes and the devilish Kevin Sullivan leads to the arrival of the Midnight Rider.

Yes, something that was recreated in earnest by one Stevie Richards in ECW, who came running out of the ocean one day doing airplane moves with his arms and growling in a monster voice, "grrrr....I'm the Purple Haze, look at me, I am coming out of the ocean!"
I actually have a Kevin Sullivan comp. DVD I got from a trader which has about 3 hours of the antics of he and the crew. Have not seen it in a little while, but I am pretty sure the Haze/Lewin oceanic adventure is on there.

I had not gotten to the Saturday Nights Main Event from 89 that is on there now, and I just realized the late Bad News Brown was in the main event, against the mighty Hulkster. This was all a prelude into Wrestlemania 5. I need to get to this tonight, as the MSG card I was halfway through and wanted to finish up is now gone...
I also cant wait to see the battle between the Rockers and the Brain Busters...
