So I just watched that 3/89 SNME, leading into Mania 5. Holy death, Batman!
In the opening match/brouhaha to follow alone, we have lost Rude, Andre, and Studd. Soon after on the show we have Miss Elizabeth, Blue Blazer, Bad News Brown, and referee Joey Marella. And, while not on the telecast, President Jack Tunney was quite the topic of conversation, especially during the Bad News/Hogan bout.
I mean, 89 was not THAT long ago. To have that many people on the show dead....I mean, geez.

Yeah, true that.
ECW "December to Dismember" is now up and running. This is a must tape/see, as its widely reputed to be amongst the worst pay per views ever. It also was the shortest, clocking in at just over 2 hours, which caused some already disgruntled buyers to really go nuts.

Last night I watched the roundtable on Piper and Terry Funk. Just snuck that one in, last night was the last night in circulation for it before new programming hits. But it will be back, this was the debut episode of that series, which debuted last summer, I believe.
Michael Hayes did a hilarious vocal impersonation of Terry Funk, which was the highlight to me. Love the classic footage they insert in the middle of the show, there was a killer Piper promo from Mid-Atlantic on there. I love the inside stories, and the laid back nature of the show.

Yes I caught that also and it was real funny.....Also this Primetime episode is a rarity...A S.D. Jones and Jose Luis (Formerly Mac) Rivera victories on the same show.....

The 1/1/83 edition of Florida wrestling on there right now is a MUST WATCH. Looking back, historically, its one of best one-hour wrestling shows ever put together. From Dustys incarnation to the Midnight Rider, to an early Magnum TA appearance, to great Windham/Flair footage, the show was a Hell of a lot of fun.
The Sullivan/Dusty loser-leave Florida for 60 days cage battle came on what is a legendary night in wrestling annals. That same Christmas night 1982 Freebird Terry Gordy was slamming a cage door on Kerry Von Erichs head in Texas, sparking the infamous Freebird/Von Erich war. In Florida, Jake the Snake nefariously played Santa, passing something to Sullivan, to quash the Dream.
Also on the show, fun to see good-guy "Cowboy" Ron Bass, teaming with big black Rufus R Jones, of all people. I love the old Florida shows. I remember reading about all this in the Apter mags (had to love the Apter segments on the show too, but man could JJ Dillon go on and on..) and watching it unfold 25 years later is something special. I could have used less shots of a poolside Mike Graham, though.

I cant really pick a favorite, although when new programs come up at the same time for the different promotions, I find myself going to Florida first. But man, I am a World Class fan from back in the day, always enjoyed the AWA, and I get a kick out of the pacing on the NWA studio shows. I love the interviews at the desk.
Man, the wealth of programming is starting to pummel me now. I have less time with hockey playoffs and baseball at full bore. This week alone there are new World Class and NWA shows, a new TNT episode, and a brand new LEGENDS roundtable, with the new and improved crew of Hayes, Bischoff, Mick Foley and King Lawler. Glad to see Graham out of there, Rhodes is a bit much at times, and Patterson is not fit for the format.
There is also another vintage MSG House show available, and 2 PPVS that are NOT in my collection which I need to tape. Those are backing up too....since I got 24/'7 I have taped like 10 PPVs I have never seen.
Geez.

I'm still working on VCR tapes, which I will transfer to DVD down the line. Not taping whole shows, but matches/promos/angles I like. Seperate tapes for WWF, NWA, World Class, AWA, Florida. Sort of best-of tapes. On my second WWF tape, but still a long way to go on the 8 hour other tapes. PPVs I tape whole, I already have a couple of hundred PPVs taped through time. Just adding to em.

Some interesting stuff on the classic MSG card up and at em right now. Date, November 1984. Gorilla and Lord Alfred handling commentary. Watched the first 2/3 last night, taped a couple of interesting matches for posterity.
How bout the nefarious Mr Fuji vs Angelo "King Kong" Mosca? Mosca was playing the amiable babyface role here, which was sort of odd. He was acting goofy. Mosca was one of a couple of wrestlers who I really found intimidating and whenever they lost i would be stunned, when I was a kid. Brody and Hansen were two others, and Killer Khan was even in that group.
It was funny to see those two, Fuji and Mosca, going at it, and Mosca with the crowd in the palm of his hands. He was victimized by the salt, and got the duke on a DQ.
The other match I taped was Barry Windham, debuting in MSG, against Moondog Rex. Windham looked good, but sadly so did Rex. I mean, it took Barry 20 minutes to put down the Moondog, who was like Flair in there. Talk about having to make your bones in the new territory. In less than 2 years Windham would be giving the World Champ fits, but here at the Garden he was stuck in a surprisingly tough scientific stalemate with the Moondog.

Dusty Rhodes with another classic racist wrestling line: "You guys are like a wetback swimmin' the Rio Grande: you in some Risky business!"
LOL!

LOL! Yeah, I caught that one too.
Watched the rest of that MSG card last night, which closed with a long and brutal battle between IC Champ Greg Valentine and Tito Santana. Went to the old curfew draw. I also watched Bruno's boy David take on Ken Patera in a stirring brawl.
I ended up skipping over a few filler matches on this card, not due to lack of interest (I will watch just about any match) but simply due to lack of TIME. I started to watch Dr D David Schultz vs Rocky Johnson, but the stalling was interminable. I also skipped through Bobby Heenan vs Salvatore Bellomo and SD Jones vs Charlie Fulton battles.

Yeah, its 100% coming back. Means less to me now, that 24/7 is showing those complete cards. But you shall be getting a bit of a fix coming up in mere weeks. I saw an ad for it a couple of weeks ago, and saw mention made on some of the various wrestling websites out and about.

Heads up, folks. Theres a must see on there now, that may be gone tomorrow, when the month flips. Its in the Primetime episode up now. During the Volkoff/Shiek/Reed vs Powers/Roma/Mirto match. After the match, when Slick tries his hand at singing the Russian National Anthem. A moment I have taped from back then (yeah, my tape collection goes back 20 years plus) and I have talked about here and there since.
As they cut close to Slick you plainly see a guy in the background stand up and HEAVE some trash at the ring. Manny Ramirez does not put that much into his throws. Its very funny, look for it and you wont be dissapointed.

Great new TNT episode on now...The late Quick Draw McGraw in action , even a Mel Phillips (ring attendant at the time - of young boy ring scandal fame) sighting, the late Vicki Sue Robinson plugging the "new" Wrestling album at the time and last but not least a little diddy from the poet lauette of the WWF Leaping Lanny Poffo........A funny Blassie and Volkoff segment as well....Looks like a lotta good stuff just came up and of course I leave for vacation for two weeks starting Friday so I gotta record what I can..quickly....

Also took in the latest installment of CWF......More great stuff.....Appearances by Brian Blair, Terry Allen doing the job, Chavo Classic, Graham, Von Ercihs, Matzuta, Kabuki and Butch Reed tearing the clothes of the Nature Boy in the opening segment highlight....Nothing is better than Gordon Solie describing a body part or muscle on the body as it is being worked on...Get this guy in The Hall already!!!!

Have not dipped into the new block of programming which debuted this week yet, but the CWF show is first on my list. Totally stoked for that. Huge Butch Reed mark here, I cant wait to see that footage. And I am totally with you on the Solie thing. It is nice to hear him get props to this day here and there from random announcers and others, including Stone Cold mentioning him while inducting JR.
