Ok, so I was up and running by 11 last night. Turns out it was working in the bedroom, but not on the main TVR (and DVR setup) in the living room, where I had actually ordered it. After another service call, the unplugging of my cable box, and a reboot, it came up minutes later. This is a treasure trove beyond measure, especially for someone like myself. Here's a little breakdown of what was there to sample last night, at no extra cost, whenever or how many times you wanted to watch it. A section with just matches from famous tag teams, including the Freebirds, Midnight Express, Road Warriors, Fantastics, and more. Another section that is updated monthly with 2 classic PPVS or cards - this month features the 2000 Royal Rumble and an MSG card from 91. This section also holds AWA and NWA/WCW ppvs. There are complete TV shows, including monthly runnings of Monday Night war era Raw and Nitro. Last night I watched an episode of Championship Wrestling from Florida, circa 1987. World Class shows debut next month. ECW shows are on here too. But, best of all, classic TNT episodes, and prime-time with Gorilla and Bobby! Dont forget specials. A round table with guys like Dusty Rhodes, Michael Hayes, and Mike Graham, discussing old-school. This months offering is Junkyard Dog. A Hall of Famer is also previewed every month with specials and matches. Old releases are also spotllighted - this month you can see the Road Warriors feature that accompanied the Roadies DVD a couple of years ago. Last night, in the one hour before I hit sack, I watched a fun Freebirds/Von Erichs tangle, an excellent Fantastics/Midnight Express 2-ring brawl from World Class 85, and that Florida broadcast. A fun match on there was Florida champ Mike Rotunda battling the Barbarian, and the Freebirds (as babyfaces!) against the portly Mod Squad. All for $6.95 a month. In the next few days I will delve deeper. Here's the current link to the 24/7 section on WWE.COM. www.wwe.com/shows/wwe247/

Or you can shell out $3 and buy a copy of the RAW he was on. If you know the exact RAW episode, you can find it online easy.
I'm going to see where in my set up this is. It's hiding in a place I haven't looked yet.

Grover--where do you find your animated GIFs? It really sucks that the Shatner GIF you had from a few years ago is long gone.
That would make the ultimate avatar for this board. It really was the most exciting moment in WWE history.

Cap, the DO have the TNT episodes. They rotate a bunch of shows and out month to month. You'll be seeing more of the TNT, believe you that.
I was just laughing to myself this morning - there are 40 new hours of programming per month. Realistically, you wont be able to keep up with all you want to watch. But thats cool. I am taping stuff off of this...but selectively. I have to resist the urge to taping anything cool, and drowning myself in more tapes. I am making a new tape of great matches, where I added some of those tag team matches in the "shorties section" and a couple of the matches from PrimeTime wrestling.
Cap, dont forget they also have the rights to AWA shows, Stampede, and World Class kicks off as a regular feature next month....
A goldmine, I tell you!

This is a goldmine and I will cherish all those early risings on Saturday and Sunday morning when I watch TV while everyone else is sleeping...There will always be something to watch..Your right gonna be hard to keep up.....

I have been doing my watching after the girls are in bed. Whats really cool is they have the "shorties" - I can pop one of those on when Dana is reading Emma her goodnight story. In those 15 minutes, I can watch a Freebird/Von Erich match. Its a hit and run.

Hey, Cap, there is now an episode of TNT up for perusal.
I need to get their schedule changes down. I guess weekly they move shows in and out. The NWA and ECW TV shows changed, the Florida show is gone, and an AWA show is up. The Rumble from 2000 is out, the one from 96 is in. A Philly house show replaced the one from MSG that was up there. Some of the tag matches were dropped, and a new feature on the Hart Foundation was added, in place of one on the Valient brothers.
I saw all I wanted to see out of the last batch. That Malenko/Guerrero 2 of 3 falls battle I already have on my Eddie DVD. Last night I watched the AWA show from 1981. Follows the old "squash" format, with the start wrestling jobbers to get their moves over. I grew up on this stuff, so I liked it. Taped a Tito Santana match off of there, and a couple of promos from Hogan and Valient, Ventura and Adonis, and Andre the Giant.
Some time in the next couple of days the NWA show from 1985 is on my agenda.

Lovin' this. Last night I watched a healthy chunk of a house show from the Philly Spectrum, from November 1987. They show these sorts of broadcasts from Philly and MSG religiously.
A LOT of dead guys. And, Balls, you would love it in that there were TWO matches of a dead man wrestling a dead man. To add to the dark nature of this show, the ring announcer was Mel Phillips, who was later implicated in the "ringboy" scandal, which allegedly had him bedding young teenage boys who were helping set up the rings at various arenas.
The first match of the deceased saw Billy Jack's cousin Brady Boone taking on Dino Bravo, in the curtain-jerker match. Bravo's death is one of wrestlings most notorious, a stereotypical gangland hit of sorts. Boone met his demise in an auto wreck. Bravo won in a decent opener, with Boone showing a lot of fire.
The second match of the deceased had Hercules battling the Junkyard Dog in a terrible match. It was also funny to see that even as over as JYD always was, the fans were shouting "boring" a minute into the match. Both guys looked terrible here. I love the backstory we know after the fact...around this time JYD was a drug ravaged mess deeply into the WWF doghouse.
Yet another dead man on the card was Bam Bam Bigelow, who battled Killer Khan in quite an intriguing battle for me. Bad match, though. Khan looked terrible. Funny thing about Khan, when I first started watching wrestling in 1980 and bought the thing as real, the guys who I thought were unbeatable and scary as Hell included Khan, along with King Kong Mosca, Bruiser Brody, and Stan Hansen. Khan missed with his green funk when Bigelow ducked, then Bigelow ended up taking Khan to the mat and splashed him for the clean win. Sir Oliver Humperdink was at ringside with his goofy scepter and ragtag colorful coat, to combat the nefarious Mr Fuji, at ringside with Khan with Demolition facepaint on his face.
The other two matches I watched last night were The Young Stallions lose to the Bolsheviks in a sloppy match, and new tag champs Strike Force and the Islanders going to a double DQ in a GREAT match. Lots of intensity, two refs (who both got thrown around), and a hot crowd.
Still to come is Ted Dibiase vs Brutus Beefcake, Demolition vs Billy Jack Haynes and Ken Patera, and the IC belt is on the line as Honky Tonk Man puts up the gold against Macho Man Savage!
A fun watch.

Was Joey Morella refereeing any of the dead v. dead matches? I'm telling you, I bet you do have enough to make a 6 hour tape.
The name Brady Boone is barely familiar to me. Sounds like the name of a baseball player.
I actually remember Mel Phillips, but that's the first time I'm hearing the name in a long time. I seem to remember Gorilla Monsoon talking about him at some point. I think he was involved in some sort of angle where he was beat up.

No, Marella was not on the scene. In fact, the two refs were both bearded fat guys I had never seen before, or even heard of.
Brady Boone was a little sparkplug of a guy who later played the masked "Battle Kat" character for a short spurt of time. A good wrestler, but too small to amount to anything. Facially, he looked a ton like Billy Jack, his real-life cousin. I liked him, he later reffed for a short time in WCW just before his death.
Mel Phillips was the guy who put on Terry Funks cowboy hat one time after Funk handed him his hat and branding iron while getting ready for a match. Funk "went bezerk" and beat the Hell out of him. A lot of people were lauging on the inside about the racial implications of the angle, as Funk was howling "boy" at him the whole time.
I in no way have enough for 6 hours in dead on dead matches. For one thing, the two matches last night only took up 15 minutes of time total. Wrestling matches are not all that long, for the most part. And I already went through dozens of match possibilites in my head and outside of a couple of Earthquake/Bossman battles (more 5 minute matches), a couple of Bulldog vs Owen matches, and some Von Erich vs Gino Hernandez and Chris Adams matches, I dont have much else.
One day I am going to make my own DVD comps of some of my favorite dead wrestlers.

Its a real treasure trove. I have really enjoyed watching the old TBS Saturday wrestling shows, circa 85, with the long promos by the desk, and assorted brouhahas that spark every now and again. Even the old-fashioned squash matches are a hoot.
I also taped Royal Rumble 96 last night - while perusing my collection, I noticed I did not have it for whatever reason, and now i do.

This is "Beauty and the Beast" month. I was wading through the SHORTIES section last night, watched a handful of matches. Started with Bigelow vs One Man Gang from MSG, circa 1988. A plodding battle, ended with Bam Bam taking the DQ. This came a month after their 2 minute battle in the Mania 4 battle, but this one went 6 times as long.
Highlight of my night was Abdullah the Butcher vs Bruiser Brody from World Class. Oh, what a jolly brawl! Blood all over, a minute in. Abby at his best, with this white elongated object he used to poke, rip, and prod Brody with. The battle went out of the ring, through the crowd. Gary Hart was animated at ringside, even slamming Brody with a couple of chairs. If you are one of those with 24/7, hop on this one now.
The last was Andre the Giant vs Kamala in a Steel Cage from Toronto, circa 1985. Went on a bit long, around 13 minutes, and was predictably slow and meandering. Kamala really stalled a lot, playing scared of the cage. Of course Andre won by walking out of the cage, after teasing climbing out by clambering up the ropes and plopping down on the fallen savage.

That Andre/Kamala match sounds like a fun watch. I imagine it wasn't that long, but maybe felt long since neither of the two wrestlers were tacticians.
I always laughed at how they put Kimchee(sp?) in a mask AND the African hunters outfit.

Grover, I mentioned in the post that the match went on a bit too long, and was 13 minutes.
Cap, hop on what you REALLY want to see quick, or tape it to watch later on - some of the stuff dissapears out of the blue and is replaced by other things after like a week. The TNT episode I called your attention to last week is already gone, and replaced by another episode of PrimeTime.

Well I took in the PrimeTime episode last night....I almost forgot what great chemistry Hennan and Monsoon had...And of course my favorite The Magnificent One was featured as he and Mr. Fuji tried to take over Hollywood...My wife was in amazement that I could still quote the lines from this adventure though I had not seen it in almost 20 years...lol....I am taking in the George The Animal Steele bio as I type...I think it is funny that every match they show of him he lost....I love the old TNT segments and Capt. Lou going on about the medulla oblongata....I believe he used that reference many times for different interviews and wrestlers.....lol

Last night I watched PRIMETIME from April 1987. Monsoon and Heenan were truly a classic comedy team. I enjoy watching Primetime and its lazy pace. This show included interviews with luminaries such as Koko B Ware, the Hart Foundation with Danny Davis, and Miss Elizabeth. We got to see "The Ken Patera Story" Part III. It was funny to see Monsoon try to swing blame for Patera's incarceration to his association with Heenan, who was not even his manager at the time.
The main event was a spirited battle pitting the team of Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, and Billy Jack vs Hercules, Adrian Adonis, and Paul Orndorff. Hogan was the last man standing at the end, and spent a great deal of time posing, much to the crowds delight. Nice to see Billy Jack getting the rub, in there with Piper and Hogan, but it did not play in the bigger picture, and soon enough he was back to teaming with the likes of Patera in a mid-level tag team.
Another zany match featured on the show was George "The Animal" Steele battling The Honkey Tonk Man, and a squash featuring the legendary Outback Jack.

I remember that Patera story. It was awesome. I wish I still had the music they played in the background when Patera was doing a bench press and saying, "you sold me down the river Heenan." I remember really liking that music.

Nah, this was the one where he was sitting in a jail cell, although he had been long released by then, blaming Heenan for all his troubles.
